    Re: Fleet supply vessels

Right. I repost from the PLAN inventory thread:
The PLAN replenishment fleet currently comprises just five ships (AOR) of three different types, the FUCHI class (Type 903), the FUQING class (Type 905) to which the Pakistani NASR A 47 belongs, and the single ex-Soviet FUSU class (Pr. 1696/Type 908) which served as a model for the FUCHI class. By fleet, they are:

    South Sea Fleet
FUSU class 885 QINGHAIHU ex VLADIMIR PEREGUDOV 1996
    FUCHI class 887 WEISHANHU 2004

    East Sea Fleet
FUQING clas 882 POYANGHU ex FENGCANG 1979
    FUCHI class 886 QIANDAOHU 2004

    North Sea Fleet
FUQING clas 881 HONGZEHU ex TAICANG 1979

IMO, the three Type 903A ordered from Guangzhou as reported by hmmwv will be a larger ship than the FUCHI class.

    Great idea Delft.

The AOR's the PLAN has are top notch vessels. For the size of their fleet 5 is plenty.

It shows PLAN ambition is for blue water navy. AO, AOR are not useful for brown or green navy

btw, they have many smaller supply vessels in the East fleet. The 5 that are brought up here are purely for blue water missions

I only quoted ships that are photoconfirmed, i.e. of which I have seen pictures. I know there are more. Similarly, water tankers (AW) are:

Bei Shui 572, Bei Shui 557, Bei Shui 590, Bei Shui 593, Dong Shui 642, Dong Shui 643, Dong Shui 644, Dong Shui 645, Dong Shui 646, Dong Shui 649, Dong Shui 650, Nan Shui 701, Nan Shui 937, Nan Shui 938, Nan Shui 960, Nan Shui 965

In order to pictorially and spec wise further document this thread, here are the five large AOR vessels currently serving in the PLAN with their specs, pennant numbers, names, and a couple of pictures of each:

    FUQING CLASS - 1979
    Displacement: 21,750 t
    Length: 168m
    Beam: 22m
    Draft: 9m
    Crew: 146
    Speed: 19 knots
    Aircraft: 1 medium helo (Z-8)
    Ships in Class: 2
    Armament:
    2 - Four dual-27mm AAA

    881 HONGZEHU (North Sea)

    882 POYANGHU (East Sea)

    FUSU CLASS - 1996
    Displacement: 37,000 t
    Length: 189m
    Beam: 25m
    Draft: 10m
    Crew: 125
    Speed: 16 knots
    Aircraft: 2 medium helo (Z-8)
    Ships in Class: 1
    Armament:
    2 - 30mm remote control guns

    885 QINGHAIHU (South Sea)

    FUCHI CLASS - 2004
    Displacement: 23,000 t
    Length: 178m
    Beam: 25m
    Draft: 9m
    Crew: 130
    Speed: 19 knots
    Aircraft: 2 medium helo (Z-8)
    Ships in Class: 2
    Armament:
    4 - Type 76F dual-37mm guns

    886 QIANDAOHU (East Sea)

    887 WEISHANHU (South Sea)

I particularly like the pics of them doing UNREP, and particularly of 885 and 887 doing so with the new, modern PLAN vessels. The best of which is the one above with 885 with a Type 071 LPD, a Type 052C DDG, and a Type 054A FFG all at one time in that pic. Says a lot about the developing PLAN capability.

    Re: Fleet supply vessels

Nice summary jeff -- but to quibble at a detail, the qianghaihu is equipped with a pair of 30mm remote controlled guns, not type 1030/1130 ciws.

I think we can settle that the PLAN's "blue water"/"A team" fleet are all experienced in these underway replenishment operations, if not already so a few years ago.
    CARRIER HAS ARRIVED! ^^

Thanks. Fixed the point on the 885 guns.

And yes, they have shown the ability to function with UNREP well, all the way over to the Arabian Sea...and with their larger LPDs.

Soon we will see a picture of them doing so with the carrier and that will be another major milestone. Either 885, 886, or 887 with the carrier on one side and a DDG or FFG on the other.

888 is not a fleet replenishment vessel. Though it is based on the Fuchi Class hull, it was built specifically to resupply the various Chinese held islands in the South China Sea from the mainland and is not outfitted for fuel or stores UNREP operations. That's why I did not include it.

    Re: Fleet supply vessels

DANYAO class 888 FUXIANHU performs the same role as the two DAYUN class ships 883 DONGTINGHU and 884 JINGPOHU.

Though 888, as Jeff Head points out, is a very different design (a shortened version of FUCHI class Type 903), it has almost the same Type designation, 904A, as the DAYUN class, Type 904.

(I guess we will see the same with 903 – 903A).
