Sorry for the tangent but where is the Borr Sea?

There is the map, Borr sea is the body of water partially enclosed by shandong and liaoning

Thanks for defining where the Borr Sea is. I did see the first description that the Borr Sea is north of the Yellow Sea but I was confused as to which part exactly. Up till now, I didn't even know that segment in the corner had it's own name, thanks for answering the question.

the Borr-Sea as I know is also knowed as Bohai-Sea or Golf of Chihli



it is a very shallow water, with only a view ports, which can be used by big draughted ships like carriers. These ports in the yellow sea are Dalian, Lüshun, Shanhaiguan, Yantai, Weihai and Quingdao


The large areas of white near the coast of China and extending offshore are areas where the reflection of light from the sediments is so bright that it is interpreted as clouds. The same problem affects the southern coast of Korea.

Remember, the Kiew was towed only bey extremly high tide (high water, flood) and is now in a closed pool.

Thats coming because the sediments of the yellow river filled the yellow sea, so this is now a very very shallow water, carriers only could operate in small aereas - which is very dangerous.

Ahh.....Bohai Sea I'm well aware, now my memory is jogged. Didn't know it had another name (Borr Sea).

I also didn't know that Bohai was called Borr. It is shallow for a CV, but channels & harbors could be dredged up- the same way it was done in San Diego (and probably elsewhere) for the CVNs homeported there. Besides, I didn't categoricaly say that only that area of the Yellow Sea is the best for them! I'm not going to argue about basing anymore- opinions differ depending who you talking to.

" hai " means "sea" in chinese.Bohai is same Bo Sea or Bohai Sea.
China call PLAN North Sea Fleet not call Yellow Sea Fleet because there are 2 sea in north.

I think it's still Bohai Sea. Not aware of any translation to Borr Sea. It's pretty cool, I actually visited some of the North Sea Fleet base and the boundary of Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea this past summer.

Anyhow, let's get back on topic everyone.

I think that the PLAN should have both ski jump and catapault carries though i would prefer catapault carriers over ski jump carriers due to the aircrafts can carry full load upon launch. Making it able to fight air to air battles and deliver air to ground battles. PLAN should have 2 ski jump carriers and 4 catapault carriers

Do you know what ports are closer,to PLAN, than Singapore or Yokosuka that are deep enough to port another CBG?

No ports that the USN would be allowed to use. I mententioned Subic because of the ties the US has with the RP. And the on going military exersise's between the US and RP.

I thought the Varyag was 70% completed when China bought the aircraft carrier in 2002 and its been 4 years that China has had it. It should be more than half completed by now, shouldn't it? Since the PLAN moved the carrier to Dalian in June 2005 thats more than a full year that PLAN has had it. Also it takes roughly 3 years to make a carrier so why would the PLAN domestic carrier take 14 years to be ready. I would give the PLAN until 2008 for the design. 2010 for the engineering. 2014 for the carrier to be ready. Just an own opinion

Those figures and conjectures work well for an indigenous carrier that the PLAN builds. I believe it is possible that they will have one of their own by the 2014 time frame as you say, maybe even earlier.

I believe the Varyag will be launched much sooner, in the 2008-2009 time frame and will serve as an operational carrier carrying out training and other PLAN duties in preparation for the second and then third PLAN carrier...but that's just my own opinion.

My own impession is that they are not in a hurry. By methodicaly building up all CBG components they'll have everything in place to put it to sea-"better later than never"! I predict that their 1st CBG will go on around the World cruise - any ideas what ports it will visit?
