The 071 LPD and the Landing Craft

Does anyone have an idea of what landing craft the Type 71 LPD will use?
We can drop the Type 722, since it's been cancelled.
We can also drop the Type 724, rather impractical.
And the Zubr will probably not fit under its hull.

The only one I can think of is this:
    http://www.sinodefence.com/navy/orba...+landing+craft

Note the two type of landing crafts, 1 is the 724, the other, bigger 1 has been pictured but never talked of. I think there is a vehicle lander also but I don't know where the photo is.

Anyway, any ideas what'll be in their belly?

just a little update on this, China actually has a new program going for a LPD, although not as large as San Antonio class. From the looks of it, it looks to be launched in late September.
    http://www.china-defense.com/forum/i...opic=7592&st=0
According to one of the specs:
    normal displacement: 12.3 tonnes
    maximum displacement: 17.6 tonnes
    HHQ-7 for air defense
    2 Z-8 copters
    using a 76mm gun
    [qimg]http://www.centurychina.com/plaboard/uploads/ChinaWuDeng_Clear1_1.jpg[/qimg]
Not sure if this is 071, but the gun used is the 76mm gun.
    [qimg]http://www.anyboard.net/gov/mil/anyboard/uploads/76mm_050930232117__1.jpg[/qimg]

As for 072-III, apparently this is current 072III count mentionned on CDF.
    911-913, 918, 992-996 and possibly 987
    So, there are 9 or 10 072III

Note, the 072III hasn't been updated for a while on sinodefense page.

If you want to read more on 071 and can understand Chinese, here it is:

    ....
I think, its time for a new thread
pic Nr. 1 seems to be the hull, and at the right hand the deckshouse (see pic 2)

You are correct. Actually the last two are LPD-17 pics. The one of the port side of the ship is the inital design..jeez...

The San Antonio is a much larger vessel with very distinctive lines...and cannot be mistaken for what the PLAN is either building...or contemplating, although their are similarities.

However, I have seen some pics today specualting on how the actual vessel we see building might look and they are much closer to what that vessel actually is shaping up to look lile (if indeed it is to be an LPD) and this is what they come up with:

Hey Jeff..That website you got those pics from is not letting me in. I cannot see the pics just little red x.

Anyway the only ships in the USN that are larger than an LPD-17 class are LCC's, LHA/LHD & CVN's/. LPD-17's are big ships.

I do not doubt the PLAN is building an LPD but I want to see that superstructure on top of that alledged hull then we shall know for sure.

I still aren't convinced that hull is an LPD. Just saying this so that I can say "told you so" when the dock is found to be missing

I downloaded them and then loaded them on my own space. They should show up now.

Agreed...we'll know soon in any case. They are working pretty hard on that one and more pics will come out in the near future confirming or disproving it...one way or another.

In the mean time they now have nine or ten of the large LST type vessels that themselves look pretty capable. Just not up to air assault or well deck operations, and not as big.

    thx
I'm only thinking about the hull at the first pic:
if this is 071 LPD and you'll compare the one central mast with the secound pic of my first posting (see below) than you'll see, its a little bit different to the art-impression of Jeff (two funnels) - so the type 071 seems to be designed like the modell
edit: or is this the hull of a new Type 054 Jiangkai FFG?

Tphuangs pic cant be a 054: The helicopter deck looks to be ~45+ meters or so in length. Just count the guard rail sections and assume they are roughly 1 meter in length for each section. Harder to measure the width since not all the guard rails are in place and you have to estimate the missing space taken into account perspective shifts into the distance but probably ~26+ meters. The pic tphung postet has a hangar and - could be - additional a "flap" (excuse my english) in the stern, so it seems to be an amphibious design (LSD - LPD ?), featured a large stern helicopter flight deck and dock to accommodate landing crafts or tanks ....

But what I now suspect is - there are two different hulls neighboured in the yard! (see first pic below)

The one (1th pic down, in the right side) looks in mast / funnel like a new FFG.
It could not be the deckhouse of the big hull on the left side, because for that the house have to be rotatet - the hangar (stern) is in opposide to the bow of the left hull.

The bigger one (1th pic down, in the left side) is rumored to become an LHD ....
http://www.sinodefence.com/navy/amphibious/lhd.asp; so this bigger one could be like Jeffs pic .... but with a more large stern helicopter deck, according to tphuangs pic.

Great pic tphuang. That is looking more and more like some typ of LPD. However, it also looks to be in a different location than the other pics we have seen of the one hull. Could the PLAN be (as is their practise of late) building two at once?
