BBC News - Chinese general Cao Cao's third century tomb 'found'
Chinese archaeologists say they have unearthed a tomb that they believe may belong to a legendary third century politician and general.

    Re: Cao Cao's Tomb found!

Major big event to all the fans of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, which continue to create an ever growing mythical ethos, thanks to continued popularization in movies such as Red Cliff, video games like Sangoku Musou, also known as Dynasty Warriors, and even anime such as Souten Kouro.

Timing comes good as Souten Kouro is a recent 2009 broadcast anime made by the director of Vampire Hunter D. Basically, it chronicles the life and rise of a young Cao Cao. The Japanization of his name would be Sou-Sou.

I wonder how they can definitively show this is Cao Cao's tomb. Cao Cao was very suspitious in nature. Since he had so many enemies, he seriously worried about people messing with his body. that's why, in legend, he had about 72 tombs (or is it 36?). How do they show this is THE one? Plus, Cao Cao probably would not actually allow his real tomb to be labeled. Any hint of his real tomb would increase the chances of himself being exposed. If they actually found things like "This tomb belongs to Cao Cao", I would say this is another fake one, intended to mislead people.

Of course, they may have found important artifacts that have been linked to Cao Cao, such as his beloved swords, etc. etc. That would be something interesting. It is also possible that he could have his belongings systematically distributed in those fake tombs to mislead people. I look forward to more info on this.

To what references to you make your claim that he is known for his brutality. We are well aware that he is a great general, a good tactician and to certain extend, a good politician too. He know how to use talents and stuff like that, but as to his brutality... please enlighten us with some references.

If you mean by forcing the young Han king to kill his empress (or was it concubine) who was pregnant, I hardly think that is brutality... and it was only one example. Plus if you look at history, Cao Cao had to get rid of his potential adversaries... and that was just part of his adversaries.

I just hope it is not raided already........... When I lived near Luo Yang, archaeologists had dug up a couple of large emperor scale tombs and found used candles and coke cans in them.....

Sun Quan was a loser who had a complete lack of ambition. Sun Ce was such a better ruler/general.

Depending on who you read he is to some a hero. In the original Chronicles of the Three Kingdoms he was a man who wanted to unite China. However the adaptation written hundreds of years later, the Romance of the Three Kingdom portrays him as a villains we all know...

cao cao is just one of the dozen power hungry warlord that appear in the late han dynasty.
bizarre,he was "official rehabilated" as "progressive." during mao time.
one of his son ,Cao tsi (?) a poet, his simple grave can seen even today, needed a massive repair.

Actually I do not think anywhere was Cao Cao protraited as brutal. He is protraited as a villian mainly because he practically hold the Han emperor as his puppet and to control the rest of China.

Actually at that period of time, loyalty to your ruler is taken as the highest priority... even if your ruler is weak or practically useless. Therefore to hold the emperor as a puppet is regarded as a very evil thing to do, therefore Cao Cao is called a villian.

However if we look at things now and with today's context, if a ruler... or president... is basically useless and weak, he or she should be sacked and another should take his or her place to lead the country, no point supporting someone that is going to get the nation destroyed. So if you actually take today's context, Cao Cao is hardly called a villian. In actual fact you can call him an opposition party leader.

    Cao Cao greatest military achievement.

Battle of Guandu. With only 70,000 men he defeated the much stronger and powerful Yuan Shao of 400,000 to 600,000 men.. He became the undisputable strongman of the northern China.

    Re: Cao Cao's Tomb found!

The greatest defeat of Cao Cao was in the Red Cliff Battle whereby the combined force of Sun Quan and Liu Bei numbering around 50000 defeated Cao Cao's 220000 to 240000 men.

And that was only the beginning... because after that defeat, Cao Cao began to lost all of his established outposts and cities that he had conquered to both Liu Bei and Sun Quan... and provide Liu Bei with a chance of establishing the Shu Kingdom and having enough power to contest Cao Cao.
