Terrorist Devise a New Method of Blowing Up Passenger Planes

Sure am glad I just got back from vacation. No need for travel until next year perhaps.

My job requires frequent travelling to and from from China...

hah, i thought about the possibility some time ago. if they're really smart they'd use binary explosives too.

anyway, in case you didn't see the comical value of this situation. lemme demonstrate:
"ahmed, ahmed, come here. lemme shove this bomb up your ass."

[ahmed on a bumpy ride to the airport and the canister containing one of the liquid components of the binary explosive discharges prematurely]
random kid: "mommy, mommy, something's coming out of that man's butt"

edit to add: btw, i too travel a LOT by air. full cavity search of every passenger or a sniffer dog up everyone's ass is definitely gonna suck.

Dont know anything about what makes things go bang so whats the advantage of a binary explosive? How would you get the two to mix if its shoved up your arse?

I think Ill have to pic a national airline that no ones got a grudge against the country.
It could certainly disrupt the tourist passengers anyway.If You are a big shot businessman one can charter ones own plane etc.

Gosh...reminds me of the Aliens. Seriously, how much of explosive power can they stuff in? The terrorist may not die instantly and instead end up struggling for tens of seconds with an exploded stomach.

i guess they're less likely to blow up chinese ( i hope)

i dont think the other passengers would be worried about him, theyre sitting in a plane that could be going down.

The news item I saw, they showed the top half of the would be assasins body, he was going after the Saudi prince who was in charge of interviewing Al Qaeda operatives who wanted to repent/change sides. The assasin was right next to the prince when he triggered it but the blast wasnt big enough to hurt the prince, but in a pressurized plane, it would be a different story. Remember not so long ago the brits just sentenced a bunch of Pakistanis for trying to blow up planes, boy im glad they didnt have this stuff then, but it looks like the Al Qaeda are gonna make it avaliable. I sure hope it dont happen.

The only person, who would be worried about it, is the terrorist himself - especially after the bomb has gone off!

The point is the amount of explosive that can be carried that way, may not be enough to bring the plane down. It may be enough to punch a hole through the plane resulting in the lost of cabin pressure, but will this be enough to bring down the plane? Don't know. But still this won't guarantee that this kind of terrorist act will not happen.

I think the sad part of it is they will forget about it until one day it happens, and everybody will be in a panic. A similar scenario was when they starting banning what you could take on as carry on luggage in response to a proven scare.

Basically the thing was about Osama trying to get even with the House of Saud and there is no evidence that this kind of ´internal bomb´ would be employed in attacks on Western interests.

Actually what really happens in Saudi is not very transparent to say the least and there have been already rumors for some years now that several assassination attempts against Saudi officials have occurred with explosives hidden in body cavities. This time they probably could not hold the mess under wraps...

i remember reading somewhere that binary explosives are harder to detect by airport security.

if i were to write an action/comedy script, this is how it would go: ahmed, the hapless terrorist, and abdullah, the equally hapless terrorist, would each carry a sack of one of the explosive components onto an airplane; then the two of them would go into the same bathroom, or should i say lavatory, on the plane and try to pull the stuff out of each other's ass and mix them. And passengers waiting outside would, of course, hear heavy panting and moaning from two men and go "WTF!"

I hope you are right in your assesment, and its just sensationalising on the part of the news source. But you can never say they wont try the technique in the light of recent failures,in other words(unfortunately, if ignored, things like that have a habit of coming back and biting us on the buttocks)

They also played this video clip, unfortunately I cant determine whether it was the bomber saying his goodbyes etc as is the norm, or another terrorist making the threats of spreading the technique into other areas as the english translation/voiceover was suggesting as i cant recall seeing a time date thingy on the bottom of the clip.
