China's first personal high-performance computer (PHPC100) makes debut in Tianjin. It is the China's smallest supercomputer, only twice the size of a normal desktop computer, but its computing speed is 40 times faster than a normal computer.
The computer has already been formally used at Zhejiang University, for accomplishing heavy computing tasks in scientific research fields such as chemical material, aerospace and aviation.
The invention of the PHPC100, by the Dawning Information Industry Co. at Tianjin Base, signifies that supercomputers, previously a privilege in high-end research, are no longer exclusive to major fields such as defense-related scientific research.
As the computer is specifically designed for use in an office-environment, it only requires a normal 220V of power and the noise it generates is equal to that of a wall-mounted air conditioner.
It perfectly suits the scientific computing, data analysis, graphic simulation and other powerful computing needs of university laboratories or scientific research institutions.
At the same time, it solves problems common in traditional high-performance computer clusters, including power consumption, space occupancy and heat dissipation.

A station to monitor and broadcast live sea floor conditions in Shanghai waters will start construction in the beginning of next year.
In future, the network of the station, which costs 2 million yuan per kilometer, will cover the peripheral waters of Shanghai and will play many important roles, including forecasting earthquakes seven seconds before they occur.
The live studio, featured with multiple high-tech elements, will be connected with optic-fiber cables laid 30-meters deep undersea. The cable can transmit energy and information accurately and reliably.
On December 7, the deep sea aquarium of Tongji University, showcasing cutting-edge deep sea technology opened in Shanghai. At the opening ceremony, Wang Pingxian, academician of China Academy of Sciences, disclosed the above information.

The project of "China's Next Generation Internet (CNGI)" has made great breakthrough in scientific innovation and industrialization. China has established the world's largest CNGI demonstration network and accomplished a series of pioneering achievements in sci-tech. Its key technology and equipment industrialization have taken shape, with its market share jumping to the second worldwide. China is expected to be the first commercial user of IPv6 technology.
Zhang Xiaoqiang, vice minister of the National Reform and Development Commission (NRDC) said, over the past five years, China has invested over 3 billion yuan in building a large-scale CNGI demonstration network consisting of six backbone networks, two exchange centers and 273 premises networks, covering a total of one million users in some 30 cities across the country. Furthermore, the world's largest IPv6 Internet, which is established in 25 universities including Tsinghua University, has become the pilot in this field.
With the help of CNGI, the project has made a series of innovative achievements, with many of them being on the world level, including the new network address system developed by China Education and Research Network and IPv6 Internet. These innovations enabled China to rank among the worlds most advanced in terms of next-generation Internet development.
As for the results, CNGI formed the most mature next-generation Internet system after the US by blending high-tech industrialization with science. It completely put an end to the passive state of being under the control of others during the era of first generation Internet. Homemade facilities and products, which make up over half of the equipment in the core network, operate in a good condition.
