Actually those ladders are very small, photo etched metal ladders, which I painted, cut to length and then carefully glued in place in those lock-out chambers. Like the railings on my PLA Navy Aircraft Carrier, or on the USS New Jersey, BB-62. There are two ladders in each chamber, on forward and one aft. The actual lock-out chambers have two too.

Hehehe...well, actually after my cancer and surgery and all, I only take showers now. Too tough to get down that deep and back up with all the hardware in me. Could do I guess, but rather not do. Anyhow, I can sure float the boats in there though. LOL!

I've thought of motorizing a couple of these and buying the electronics to make them RC...but probably will not do it. Going to just make nice displays of each carrier group as I go.

Next is the Type 52C Lanzhou class, I will be builing DDG-171, the Haikou. Probably start on that this week.

Be sure to post a picture of the entire fleet once you are done!

Oh, I will. I will be posting a thread for each of the builds listed HERE

As I go along. Then as a Carrier Group is completed, I will post pics of the entire group. Ultimately I will have modern groups from the US, China, the UK, and Russia for sure. I hope models are released so I can do the same for Japan, Korea, Australia, India, Italy, Spain, Brazil, and France too. But there just are not enough 1/350 scale models for that. They do have all of the escorts for Japan in 1/350th and I suspect Ultimately both the Hyuga and the newer 22DDH class will be released too.

Time will tell.

Nice Job Jeff.. are you going to add the SEAL minisub(ASDS+Advanced SEAL Delivery System) that is stowed by the sail?

I will either find a 1/350 scale model of one, or try to scratch build one if I can.

That is why in my US Military Buildup Proposal I am proposing, among many other things, an AIP Diesel Electric build of 24 subs for the US Navy that have this lock-out chamber capability for the ASDS.

The Ohio at in excess of 14,000 tons is just too big to be sending anywhere near the littorals IMHO.

Anyhow, as soon as I can find one, I will build it, or later just build my own.

As it it, I am moving on now to my PLAN DDG-171 Haikou 1/350 scale mode. Starting that one rght now as we speak.

And just FYI, it's clear that the 052C can take Z-9 onboard as well, as the helideck have the harpoon locking system; and should the new pennant number scheme is implemented in the future, you might be looking at the prospect of updating the pennant number styling too.

Yes, I just started on it. It ill probably take me several weeks working a couple of hours each day after I get home from work. Hope to get the main hull pinted tonight. I will usually do as much painting of many of the parts before I put them on. I also intend to add quite a few Photo Etched metal parts as they add significantly to the realism. They are purchased after-market.

And, BTW< those are great pictures of DDG-171 you took during the open house. Thanks for sharing them. The exterior details will help me make sure the model is correct, and I do try and correct any inconsistancies or errors that I find.

I have both the KA-25 and the Z-9 helos and haven't yet decided which to place on the vessel at this point. I will look at as many pictures as I can and put on the one most often carried/...probably the KA-25 I wouldl imagine.

I'll watch for the new pennant numbers and make sure I update if necessary. I have always thought the PLAN pennant numbers were just too big...but, it's what it is.

This model especially was built very carefully and caringly. My career Navy son-in-law, who has been a submariner for the last 9 years, served on the USS Ohio and was ppart of the crew that took her through the refit to SSGN. He then served on her until promoted to the Squadron level. Went out to see three times with her aftyer commissioning, and then regularly flew out to Guam to assist on her and other of the SSGNs.

He's a U.S. Navy Chief who has been accepted now into a program where he will go to school for three years to be a phamacist abd will come out an officer (full Ly.) with a tne year commitment which will get him to retirement.

I got to go onto the Ohio twice for tours of the boat by my son-in-law. Once during refit when I met the XO, and then later after the refit when I got to meet the CO. Great experiences...and BIG boats!

I am going to stencil the name on the stand, and then give it to him. The grandson who was helping me is one of his and my daughter's boys.
