Errr...... what do you suggest?

Those anti-whaling people are idiots.
Quote:
Generally, unless they plan to up the ante beyond their stupid stunts they pull for TV, they are never going to get anywhere saving the whales
That's what idiots do, cry and expect something to happen repeating the same old Bush-It.
Seriously, what's yelling going to do?

When they told us that they were Minke whales and not something close to extinction, I practically wanted to switch sides. (Ask Andrew Zimmern.)
Quote:
However I dont buy into their contention that they are exercising a traditional right of catching whales for consumption. Well not in the way of the Indigenous people of the icelandic regions oe alaska/canada.
Well, with harpooning, every whale caught is caught; half of the Inuits' catch fall to the bottom of the sea.
And AFAIK, the Japanese say that they are whaling for research, not consumption, so if the hippies want to do something, just go to Japan, photograph the whale products, and interrogate.

Greenpeace? Sorry, but they are the same thing to me, and too darn idealistic/unrealistic.

PS. If they successfully hamper the whalers, the whalers will thank them for allowing themselves to jack up the price of whale meat. (Apparently, they've have had tourists be shown whale meat at a very cheap price. The tourists who bought it couldn't figure out what kind of fish it was however.)

Re: Japanese sinks stealth boat in whale wars!

Who cares what the anti-Whalers do? If they disrupt commerce, so what? It's a battlefield out there, and the Japanese whalers won this round. Plain and simple.

Unrestricted and unregulated commerce is not optimal either. Imagine every water bottling company got its way? They'd suck every lake and underground water aquifier dry. Oh well, it's ok, right?

Also, who cares if private nuclear companies just dump their waste on people's backyard. We shouldn't restrict capitalism and commerce, right?

I have no problem with whaling just as long as there are enough whales to replenish the ones that are killed. Unfortunately, "farming" whales, to my knowledge, hasn't been done before. Let's assume that all the whales on the earth are dead due to Japanese whaling. You do know that these whalers will move on to dolphins and sharks, and then other fish close to America's maritime borders. Where does it stop? It doesn't. That's the problem.

These sort of high profile 'stunts' by anti-whaling activist, no matter how admirable on paper their goal is, only hurts their cause in Japan than helps. Sure it makes for good coverage in the rest of the world but in Japan it just makes them angrier about the issue and more resolute not to bend over for 'outsiders'. If they just engaged the Japanese public more clearly then slowly, overtime, they could get attitudes to change, but given how much 'buzz' these whale standoffs make, I doubt they have their priorities straight.

My apologies, but I assumed most people would have been aware of the anti whalers claim that whale meat was not part of the traditional Japanese diet. They only turned to it because of a food shortage, and since that problem no longer exists, they can now stop the consumption of whale meat.

Sorry, someone seems to suggest that whales are a kind of fish.

Are the Japanese dog lovers? Perhaps telling them that whales are as intelligent as or even more intelligent than dogs would help them break the habit of eating whale meats.

Unfortunately one cant keep a whale in the bathtub or swimming pool

Re Sharkfin Soup: I Like sharkfin soup, but its really got me stumped as to why they dont use the rest of the shark meat. Over here shark meat is known as lemon fish and i dont have a problem with consuming it.
It also makes good fishballs which seems to be a popular item on the refrigerator shelves of those Chinese grocery stores

Poachers are lazy bastards, and don't want to wast the fuel to haul sharks back to port; when they can pack the hold full of fins that sell at a premium and don't need to be refrigerated.

Im not too sure whether its about the intelligence of the animal that makes it appealing to humans, but for some reason Westerners have developed an empathy for whales which is certainly beyond my comprehension.Personally I reckon it would be pretty cool to have a cheetah as a pet.(no bum would touch my car if I had a cheetah in the backseat. or a falcon I could go falconing or whatever they call it as a sport.

Overhere alot of Asians seem to go for dogs as pets, Ive personally acquainted with a lot of mailand chinese who spend not an inconsiderable amount of money on pedigree dogs, only to drop them off at the pound when they head back to China after a years stay here.

Edit. By the way I have not heard one sound reason for why its wrong to eat whale especially when there is enough numbers in certain speicies to sustain limited catching.

I am curious with the title of this thread ".... stealth boat ...", as far as I search about the boat, it is a speed boat and never intend to anything stealthy.

You are quite right. If I remember correctly the original owner who built it to go around the world in a record time developed financal problems and sold it to the anti whaling crowd/Sea Sherpherd crowd who claim to have made some additions and given it a coat of radar reflective paint to fox the Japanese, hence the claim to be stealthy, but it was never designed as such.

I'm not sure a pig is more intelligent than a dog, but what I meant was you basically don't see people in most countries farming animals like dogs, cats, monkeys, dolphins, gorilla and orang utan for their meat. (I know there are exceptions.) The reason is of course quite obvious. I'm personally not against eating meat and tend to believe farm animals are killed in a more humane way than harpooning a whale.
