I think 'afraid' is too strong a word for now. Currently, the US still has a big lead over China economically & militarily. But for sure the Americans realize that if they are to be overtaken in the future, it will be by China. It's quite simple really, US is the top dog now & they are using all means to stay on top.

But acting hysterically in Asia and the world shene will only draw Russia, China and India more closer than ever, and even if America had a working missile shield it's far from invurnable(remember 9/11) These guys know, that it's too late to stop Chinas current "rise" without an all out war, where also innocent americans could get killed, and for instanche Russia could also take a part of, so naturally the US and there leaders are "losing it" I personally think, that if they cant even control the rio grande, they will probobly never control the eufrat, and deep in there minds they know this. Thanks to military advancement smaller and more leathal bombs can be made, so they are begining to realice there Reganistic "missile shield" was also as much of a waiste of time and money as there current operations in Iraq. USA is beging to realice how weak and vurable it truly is! China only needs enough time to get enough weapons on the air to cause america BIG trouble, if it tries to attack it. The hyppocrite americans know WERY WELL, that they would probobly NEVER get involved in ANY offshore military adventure, if it means lets say about 1-million americans in home getting killed. THAT is there weaknes! Maybe China and some terrorist groups should join hands. After all, washigton has specificly refused tocontinue the ABM treaty, so that in other words means, that they want another arms race. But with modern nano and other future weapons and the free movement of people(also know as "globalization")no one can truly be safe. It's kind of ironical, when you think about it. Americas own creation turning against it Well, at some point i think even people in the military industrial complex will realize what they have done, but by then it may be too late. Lets hope that the leaders of america come to these sences in time!

Personally as an American I'm not afraid of China. I don't anyone that is. I don't see anyone that is schizoid of China spewing hate... Except those neocons that write for that right wing newspapers and appear to Tv and radio.

Well, i personally im against ALL evil empires, neither they are lead from Washigton or Beijing. But what i REALLY hate is American neocons! They are ALWAYS on the side of Israel, so they are WERY biased on the midle-east conflicts. Also there imperialists, wich i REALLY dont like. Drunkhomer I think you are on the right track. I don't think anyone in the present US administration is "afraid" of China. Concerned yes but not afraid. Yes they present administration is doing things to create a concern over the PRC. I agree. But the average American is not concerned. Not right now.

I see your government has successfully brainwashed you with it's anti islamic propaganda! Your automatic assumption was that when he said terrorist groups he meant Islamic extremists!

Actually not all terrorist groups are muslim. where i come from Groups like the IRA (who were funded in part by Irish americans!) wanted independence from Britain and in that sense some people would see them as freedom fighters not terrorists.

The same could be said for the likes of Al Quaida. Many muslims may be sympathetic to them as they see them as the defenders of the faith as they are standing up to the Americans and fighting back against american cultural and economic imperialism and the corrosive effects these would have on the muslim way of life.
