Good question, hopefully that person has good reaction by trying to avoid landing on it on critical areas of one's body parts. Then again, how often does that happen?

How come they get to eat mung bean soup that way? When I was kid, I remember my father smacked me on the back of my head (didn't hurt, but startled me) for eating like this. He told me to use a spoon, you're not a dog.

We use to have wire rope along parts of our motorways as a cheap alternative to concrete barriers. A motor cyclist hitting that at speed could get decapitated or sliced in half. It was often referred to as the cheese cutter.

Perhaps they didn't know any better.I remember Vesicles offering up an explanation for that. In short he said, good manners/etiquette, wasn't encouraged after the revolution because it highlighted the class division of a different period. The same occurred in the aftermath of the French Revolution.

Apologies to "Vesicles" if I misunderstood him.

Therefore "Equation " your father taught you well" Did you ever get rapped over the knuckles for not holding or using your chop sticks properly?

Good etiquette I can understand that and I thank my parents for that. BUT, when there is NO one around to see me drink out of my bowl (I was doing it for fun, like those Kung Fu Shaolin monks in movies), I don't see any harm. Yes I get it once in awhile for not holding my chopsticks properly, but I always sit opposite of my dad(he did all the disciplining) so that way he couldn't reach me. I also get rapped for writing on my left hand. I guess its a Chinese and Asian thing I guess, all of my other ethnic Asian friends share the same funny experienced.

Despite the second photo looking decidely unusual, Id say it was the camera angle.

However after closely scrutinising those photoes which have been taken at different time periods, I can tell you that Pres Hu owns one Western suit , one white shirt and two ties.

It's the same honor guards at a different camera angle. Look at the gap between the boots and the edge of the red carpet will give you the indication of distance. Plus President Obama is a tall person, meanwhile the Middle Eastern visitor is shorter than President Hu and at a further distance from the Honor guards that gives off an impression of drastic height change.
