HARBIN, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Eight people were killed and seven others were injured in a car accident in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, local officials said Tuesday.

The accident happened at about 7:40 a.m. when a mini-bus carrying 15 people collided with a van on Hazhao Road in Liuhe Township, Mulan County, said Xue Hongling, one of the injured.

Five passengers and the driver on the mini-bus were killed on the spot. Two injured passengers died on the way to hospital.

Seven others were under treatment in two county hospitals. Two of the injured were yet out of danger, said Lu Dezhen, a doctor with the Mulan County People's Hospital.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
