I'd like to propose that we separate Type 054 and Type 054A frigate into 2 page. The ship's equipment is very different and confusing when placed under same page.

The propulsion is a combined diesel and diesel (CODAD) arrangement. The primary propulsion is four French SEMT Pielstick (now MAN Diesel SA) 16 PA6 STC diesel engines, one of the most advanced diesel engine designs in Europe. Each 16 PA6 STC engine can produce a sustained power of 5,180kW (6,947hp), giving a total power of 20,720kW (27,788hp). A similar 12 PA6 STC engine with less power (each rated at 3,880kW) was also used by the French La Fayette class frigate. China received the first batch of eight diesel engines from France in 2003. The secondary propulsion is two indigenous Shaanxi diesels (Chinese copy of the MTU 20V 956TB92) rated at 8,840 hp (6.5 MW).


If I'm not mistaken:

The 054 is equipped with 2 x SEMT Pielstick and 2 x MTU 20V 956TB92 engines,

and the 054A is equipped with 4 x SEMT Pielstick diesels?


Or are the 054 equipped with 4 x PA6 STC each, or even 4 x PA6 STC + 2 x MTU 20V 956TB92?
