New "features" on posts

I've noticed at the bottom of every post is a series of links that say things like "digg this post!" and "furl this post".

Can you please get rid of them? They look really silly and don't seem to add anything to the forum? Even if it's some subscription thing I'd appreciate it if you could get rid of it

Makes the forum look cheaper.

EDIT: Strangely enough they appear as icons on this post, but not on others 0 just a long url text.

EDIT2: And now that I've edited the post they've disappeared.

Re: New "features" on posts

Those links are suppose to be images but since there is an issue the image are not appearing. As soon as its fixed, it will look just like it did before.

Also, see this:
http://www.sinodefenceforum.com/feed...estions-2.html

Such links allows users to share and bookmark the threads on popular bookmarking and link sharing sites which brings traffic to the forum. That is what they add to the forum.

Thanks and enjoy!

Re: New "features" on posts

I agree with FuManChu, these Digg, deli.icio. etc links are annoying. Cant see them contributing to the layout of the forum. Secondly, the Auto-Talk.net galleries that appear at the top of the page are annoying, too, and have nothing to do with anything remotely connected to the Chinese military. Finally, the google ads are an eye sore, too. I undertsand they make up part of the revenue of this website but they should be place more discreetly. Thanks

Re: New "features" on posts

Again, you are missing the point and not reading what I wrote correctly.

Digg, deli.icio. etc. are LINK SHARING and BOOKMARKING websites used by millions of users on the internet.

Those links ALLOW such users to SHARE and BOOKMARK the thread in the profiles on those sites and SHARE the thread with OlTHER USERS AROUND THE WORLD. IT IS NOT SPAM, it is a FORUM FEATURE which YOU should USE and encourage others to use as well. It brings traffic to the forum... unless you want to come up with some other ideas to help bring traffic?

Once the images start appearing for those links, you will not find them as annoying. These links are OUT of your way, they are not keeping you from reading the posts or making posts, etc.

Google ads: Do you want to start paying for the hosting cost and time spent managing this stuff? The ads are OUT of your way, they do not keep you from reading posts or making new posts.

Pictures: Thats a feature, spam free content for you. It doesn't have to be related to military/china. Many google ads are related to military/china yet you find that annoying as well.

Thank you!

Re: New "features" on posts

Yepp, you are right. The icons for those bookmarking sites are appearing now and they are more low-profile than they were before. No problem with them anymore.
Point still stands with one horizontal and one vertical google ads bar and the distracting picture galleries. But maybe that's just a matter of taste and opinion.

Re: New "features" on posts

The forum no longer resizes large photos to fit, hence the width issue. I'm sure it's a simple fix for the admin.

As for the Auto-talk.net pics mentioned above, does the forum get revenue from showing these? or does admin just have an automobile fetish? (Not that there's anything wrong with that...)

Re: New "features" on posts

The admin is also responsible for auto-talk.net. That's why the slideshows appear here too. I just find them unecessarily distracting and irrelevant to SinoDefence content but that's just a personal opinion.
I also would like to echo bd popyes's comments, please remedy the situation. Thanks

Re: New "features" on posts

Now pictures should be related to sino defence content...

SinoDefenceForum.com is owned by DefenceTalk.com and other sites that are in the circle are auto-talk.net, worldaffairstalk.com. We have a partnership with SinoDefence.com for this forum.

BD, what screen resolution are you using? It must be 1024x768 or greater.

Right click on your desktop then go to Properties and then click on the SETTINGS tab and that will show you what screen resolution you are using.

Thanks webby...I will give it a shot.
----------------------------------------------------

2 hours later....

My resolution is already set to 1024 x 768..My screen on this page only is off centered to the right.I cannot see about 1 inch of the right side of the page at times. The page is still off centered whenI can see the whole page. It was ok until the "upgrade". I dunno what's wrong.

What is your screen solution, BD? Mine is 1024 × 768 and it shows a whole page. I don't have any horizontal scroll bar appearing on my screen. The page centers itself well.

EDIT: BD, my suggestion to you is: What kind of monitor you are using? If you have a good and large monitor (at least 17", 19" or larger would be better), just increase your screen resolution.
