COMAC C919 - China's first modern airliner

Using a BRICS example, I can see UAC and COMAC as the senior partners, with Embraer, Denel and possibly Mahindra/Tata as junior partners in such an endeavor.
I doubt Embraer will join as a junior partner having a larger global market share and experience in the world commercial airliner market in general then COMAC and UAC combined.

To my knowledge development banks do not lend directly to individual corporate projects and cannot intervene with project that has direct conflict with WTO rulings.
They will lend funds to developing infrastructure and or even manufacturing facilities but cannot lend money directly to R&D projects for products for the market.

Well, at the very least every little bit does help, with money saved on infrastructure/manufacturing setup is more that can be put into R&D.

If Embraer is big enough to be a third senior partner then that's great too, makes things more equitable for everyone.

at this moment is difficult to know what is going to happen, because these aircraft are up to a degree overlapping their capabilities.

E-195-E2 up to some degree competes with all these new jets, with 135 seats, but these alliaces will happen as the programs evolve

What I meant was that a partnership would make the most sense for wide-body/jumbo jetliners since those have the biggest risks and costs associated with them compared to the narrowbody aircraft, and also would enable much larger economies of scale as well. It would also facilitate a standard set of hardware and software interfaces for commercial aircraft among the BRICS if they haven't already.

I agree, but Embraer is partially owned buy US companies, Bombardier has US partners too, in my opinion they will make alliances depending in how their individual programs fair, the C919 in the lowest niche competes a bit with the CS-100 and E-195.

I think everything will depend in the market, the companies that succeed the most will lead, the ones with the most of troubles will supply parts, but i guess Embraer will prefer western partners since they shunned the Russians a few months ago, that it forced the Russians to say Embraer is an american company

Not directly related but an interesting news

Mitsubishi jet in 1st flight, in step for Japan aviation
Mitsubishi jet takes maiden flight in step toward reclaiming aviation heritage
TOKYO (AP) -- Mitsubishi, a maker of the Zero fighter, took a step toward reclaiming Japan's one-time status as an aviation power Wednesday with the maiden flight of its regional jet.

The aircraft took off in the central Japanese city of Nagoya, as seen in a live webcast. It landed about an hour later.

Mitsubishi pushed back the jet's first flight by a few months but said the delay would not affect its planned commercial deliveries.

The project reflects a desire to turn Japan's modern engineering and manufacturing prowess into a top-tier aircraft industry, some 70 years after Japan suspended making planes following its defeat in World War II.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and other major Japanese manufacturers are key suppliers for many aircraft parts and systems. But a large share of the components in the 70- to 90-seat Mitsubishi regional jet came from leading foreign suppliers.

Mitsubishi faces a stiff challenge in competing with Brazil's Embraer, which dominates the difficult regional jet market, analysts say.

great looking aircraft, well done Japan!
The capacity of this great looking MRJ is roughly half of Comac C919, so they will not competing each other.
In fact this MRJ will be competing with Comac ARJ21 (similar class and capacity) which is already in production and has received 342 orders from many countries

It seems ARJ21 have more capacity and a bit more powerful engine (GE CF34-10A) compared to this MRJ (P&W PW1000G). Also interestingly ARJ21 is significantly cheaper ($20M) than MRJ ($34M) ... somehow

This is great ... more competition is always better for the customers and encourage innovations

I agree with your analysis. The cooperation will start between COMAC and UAC, there is governmental agreement? or MOU about it. It will probably take a long time before Embraer and Bombardier join (if they ever choose to join).
My original post regarding the joint venture was a wish (as I have said), I personally don't see Brazil and Canada joining in the near future, not before C919 showing success, that could be 10 years from now. However, joining force of these four, especially in area like wide-body (C929 class and up, which non of the four has any experience) is important for all of them to get into that part of the market as montyp165 has pointed out. I am sure China and probably Russia have that in their mind, not sure about the other two. This is why I made my wish.
