No. Painted serial numbers typically have to do with unit organization, not the production serial number.

according to the magazine article said that type 99 tank use domestic diesel engine 新150, this engine overall better than Russia engine, and this engine is clearly better than the Japanese Type 90 tank engine, better than the Merkava -4, Lecler Er Tanke engine. its quality equal to German MTU-870.
the article disclosed that China type 59, 69,79,80 88 tank all used the same company(Shan Chai Diesel Engine Factory) make domestic diesel engines-12V150L,12V150G,12V150ZL. and type 96A also used this company make domestic diesel engine.

Could be an honorific designation, like if it's the number of the first tank in a unit, then there will always be one tank carrying that number in the unit.

That would be for occasions like military parade only.

Re: New Type98/99 MBT thread

Question regarding the laser countermeasure system on the Type 99 MBT:

What is the power output of the laser? I looked on wikipedia and it gave the energy in hertz (wtf?) instead of joules. Is it capable of permanently blinding enemy sensors or could it only blind them temporarily?

Re: New Type98/99 MBT thread

@ A.Man

interesting, I have a moderatly hard time to come up with 10 tanks recent enough to be theoretically better than this new design, the articles may be a case of "understatement datawashing".

Also, better or worse in which circumstances? Which terrain? Against which enemy?
While f.e. the Merkava is nice, it is a screw up as soon as you need strategic mobility.
Leopards usually rock, but get some problems in high temperature situations, Abrams are overrated (like nearly everything else coming out of the US), performances of Russian tanks are often understimated due to poor crew handling by contractor countries (Iraki T72 NOT equal to Russian T72).

In my opinion, if that Tank has a) countermeasures against irregular RPG-infanty (which it seems to have, ERA etc.), can b) beat the frontal armour of western MBT is c) maneuvarable enough and can d) withstand indirect Bomblett ammunition it fullfills its requirements.

north korean M-2002 tank.
Chassic is based on T-72,turrent from T-62,the tank incorporate composite material.arm with 15mm tank gun, unlike T-72 tank, it done away with auto loader in favor 4th crews.
according JDW, the tank incorporate T-90S and type-88 technology.

No.
Chassis are based on T-62, only one wheel longer, tracks are pre-1972 too, Mr. Bermudez has made a mistake in his drawing which depicts post-1972 tracks. Hull glacis is T-62. The only T-72 part I see is engine compartment which means it has V-46, V-84, V-92 or V-99 engine. The letter too have differences in compartment appearance, but it is impossible to see those differences from angles on the pictures provided. Given that they use tracks long phased out in Russia this tank is unlikely to have 1997 engine, so I assume it has V-84 and it's 840HP at best. Though there is a little chance that engine was overcharged locally.
Turret is not from T-62, it is indigenously developed welded design with composite armour, with 570-680mm physical thickness.
It's day sight is still based on T-62 one.
