article about typer-99 from november 2009 issue of DIIC.
according to the article the different between type-98 and type-99 was cost. type-98 cost 3 million yuan to build.due to her high cost ,only number were built,while type -99 cost only 1.6 million yuan.
type-99 abandone type-98 hybrid torsion bar/hydropnuemutic suspensioninstead choose all torsion bar suspension to cut cost.
it also use COTS uncooled TIS for both gunner and commander,and modified german 1500 diesel engine.

That bucket is a pretty good collection of all the photos that may be associated with the new mbt.
Now, what is this photo showing and why now? We haven't had a photo about the new mbt in awhile. Did it just pass some milestone or is this something that was tried and failed?
The test rig looks like it is used to simulate movement of the chassis to test the stabilization system.
One potentially interesting thing about this photo is that you don't see the autoloader and associated things under the turret. They are either not fitted for the tests or the autoloader is not the carousel type. I would not jump to conclusions, though.

the turrent is mounted in the test rig to evaluate and test the tank gun stabilzation system.
majority of the tank produced in the 50's and 60's use 2 axis gun stabilzation.
not until in the mid-70's with the arrival M-60A3 which uses 3-axis systemto compliment hughes digital integrated FCS,the first tank ever to fitted with thermal sight.

interest about the turrent, it seem to me,it adapted all wield turrent,rather than "hybrid" construction, half casting,half wielding like type-98 /99.
since,both the russian T-55M6 and ukraine T-55AGM uses bustle mounted auto loader,it is likely type-99/2 may also adapt similiar design.

T-99 has lower Silhouette than peer MBT like M1A2 and Leopard II
It's has better surveilance and search radar than other MBT. Enable it to have a first strike, first see advantage.
125mm rounds are bigger, enable it to carry more gunpowder. Meaning it is superior than 120mm rounds
Its modular design enable easy future ugrade.
It has full auto search and destroy ability. Good gun stability system ensuring high first hit probability.
It's lazer dazzler enable to distract/disable opponent search system.
It good weight to engine power ratio is superior to peer opponent tank.
