Also if whatever it is made out of is fragile enough to fragment, but tough enough to be deadly.

That Egyptian grenade looks like it's homemade, but then again the Egyptians do use some pretty high tech equipment...

Normaly, grenades are set for six seconds. But because of diffrences in individual manufacture, it could be anything from eight to four seconds before detonation.

Type 82-1 wasn't introduced into the service, AFAIK. But Type 82-2 and Type 86 were.

Soviet/Russian UZRGM grenade fuse burns out in 3.2 - 4.2 sec (it's used in all Russian grenades and their chinese copies, except the latest Russian RGO and RGN). Type 67 grenades (and Type 77 apparently) explode after 4.5 - 5 sec. WY91 is reported to explode after 2.8 - 4 sec. Too long delay is rather bad, actually - because your chances to get the grenade back increase in some circumstances, as well as the enemy's chances to survive.

that's why you delay the throw. back in world war, soldiers would hold onto the grenade a second.

Yeah, that's a well know trick, of course. But that is obviously not a standard use.

    Re: Chinese hand grenades

the M6 was a Riot control grenade filled with CN. IT was Farly ( More beer can than soup can.) tall with a standard style fuse pin spoon Assembly none of the grenades pictured resemble it.

    Re: Chinese hand grenades

Sorry, I confuse the M6 with the Mk2.
    Correcting:
The grenades of the 2nd and 3rd images resembles the US's Mk2
