This is a 'real life' photo of the PLA marines stationed at Zhanjiang, the headquarters of the South Sea Fleet. Unlike most of the propaganda photos we normally see, this reflects the real PLA navy officers and marines

the cammo they wear is not designed for ship yards but for beaches and land close to beaches. so the blue and green is like water/swamp/grass landscapes, while the white more like the beach.

what's i'm suprised about the pic is that none of them seem to carry any weapons, no rifles or sidearms...what's the point of wearing ammo packs if they don't have weapons

I like the pics homer, but I imagine that the ansewer to your question is that the Chinese Marines act as an amphibious-exclusive force unlike the United States Marines that now go anywhere and everywhere. The pourpouse of cammoflauge is not only to hide, but obscure as well. If you were looking at these uniforms from a position staring down a beach towards the water from a distance, it might be very dificult to know where to shoot or to designate priority targets.

Yes indeed. I was also very confused abt the PLA Marines cammo too. But then i saw one of their exercise footage along time ago and the soldiers were still in the water and some just made it to shore. In those areas where there are still water the cammo was super effective. And when i first saw it i was.... lets say amazed at how that particular cammo worked. I am sorry that i cannot remember which exercise, but trust me such colourful schemes in the environment do exist in a battlefield. THis also suggests the rationale of this particular type of cammo.
As I said b4 that it blends very well in an environment with water (espeically sea water), therefore this suggests that this types of cammo is to provided protection during the attempt to land. Because all the troops and their other toys are most vunlerable when trying to land.

Well if u think abt it, u don't really always carry a weapon with u even if u have got ur webbing on in the barracks. Besides those soldiers were in their base, and they r obviously going somewhere.... so maybe going to the armoury to get their weapons. Or they have just placed their weapons in the armoury and r now going back to their lines. Who knows.........

PS yeah ..... i still don't agree with those bright orange life jackets. But then i don't think the PLA is that stupid...... have to find out their rationale for using it from some PLA policy makers. Perhaps used only in training so its easy to spot drowning soldiers?

those orange life jackets can be worn on either side. one side is orange, and it strictly for training and rescue, since can be seen easily. the other side is cammo, i saw a pic of it once in a chinese site, have to dig up the pic again, but the color of it is very much like army green cammo. i'm assuming that would be for combat.

Well, if the soldiers are wearing life jackets, then wouldn't it be kinda hard for them to drown?
