A cache of 3,000 grenades, artillery shells and other bombs believed to have been left by Chinese forces at the end of the Second World War has been unearthed in a city in China's north-east.

The munitions were found at a construction site in the city of Changchun and are believed to have been left behind by Nationalist forces, which led China during the Second World War, the China Daily newspaper said.

About half of the munitions have been destroyed.

China regularly reports the discovery of such weapons caches, though they are more often munitions left by invading Japanese troops.

Changchun was at various times controlled by the Nationalists, the Japanese and finally Soviet troops at the end of the war.

Maork is right. The bombs were lefted by Japan when they retreated. It's not from the Nationality since the Japs invaded Northeast China in 1931.

The Japanese used and placed bio-chemicals weapons in North-Eastern China. But they also placed bombs, mines, and other chemicals
