hey, i got a question, you know the first and second picture of the flanker i posted (with the nose pointed at us) whats all "wire" sticking out from it (near the cockpit)...?
I'm no Flanker-expert, but it seems like pitot-tubes, they are used to retrive different data from the air, and are instrumental in determining the aircrafts speed. They probably could be some kind of antennas or arrays also, but I still think they are pitot tubes. Anyone who has any other opinions/facts?

I can't really make out the words, but it says CAC has a new breakthrough. And apparently, that fighter is the new breakthrough.
Apparently, this is from PLA's newspaper according to the Chinese forum this is posted from.
This could be anything, no idea what this is.

If you look carefully, this article was posted on May 10th of this year.

Althoug it may look cool, it doesen't give you the right to post oneliners....if i spot one more "gee, its a real nice one..." type of oneliners, those will be deleted and wanrings will follow!!
But to the point. This new bigger and colourfull pic confirmed my doupts...it's a fake, a good one but still a fake. Just look at it more carefully (whitout those PLAAF eyeglasses) and you'll noticed it too. Also how could it be real? China has only now fielding an adequate fighter design wich could be mach for the rest of the world (still lacking almoust 15 years behind the developing speed of the west) after 30 years of it's indegenious fighter building programs...be realistic, i agree, i would love to see this or any other new chinese fighter project in the air, but as i said we need to be realistic in here.
Tough i could be wrong now....by all means prove that i am...but i don't think so,
...so we won't get fooled again? right?

If you look at the "newspaper" carefully, it appears that the picture was cut and paste into it - it still has the digital photo water mark (e-mail?) in lower left corner.
As for the photo itself, it's most likely fake. I'm sure everyone remember all the fake J-10 photos being passed around for years.

yup. it still has the 5537@163.com watermark from the computer image. so its likely a fake. if u compare the quality of the pic to others in the newspaper, youl notice it is indeed cG. should we email the guy and tell him to stop making fake pics?

hey T-MC-G welcome to SDF, watchout for the oneliner rule although in picture threads if your carious about something like this; it doesn't much hurt you ;)
But yeah to the point those are Russian Su-30 Flankers doing mid-air refueling during Peace Mission 2005 (Sino-Russo Wargames just August or July this year). They use the probe and drogue way, like the USN and the rest of the world (not USAF boom and receiver way). The Russians were just demostrating to the PLAAF the re-fueling capibalties of that IL-76 tanker, since China has Su-30MKK, Su-27SK, and J-11s and lack air-refueling planes..

Thanks swimmerXC!! Sorry about one lining on my first post. Well...slightly off-topic... I am writing a paper and preparing a briefing in one of my classes on the increasing force of various Air Forces to the USAF and respectfully so the chance for a reduction in USAF dominance. The PLAAF seemed to be the number one force so I was doing some research. Any more info or sources would be greatly appreciated!

I didn't even notice that until you just mentionned. It was pretty fishy right from the start when the picture wasn't clear enough to show the text of the article.
btw, it's IL-78 Midas tankers, not IL-76.

It's not FC-1, it's L-15. It's considered to be China's next big trainer export item. Also, it is probably more advanced in its field than any other Chinese planes have ever been.

this is the comparison of L-15 and FC-1's stats
L-15的技术数据 褭訖
机长 12.27m (length)
翼展 9.48m (wing span)
正常起飞重量 6800kg (normal starting weight)
最大起飞重量 9800kg (maximum starting weight)
发动机 AL-222-25F加力式涡扇发动机 (powerplants
加力推力 4200kgX2 (thrust)
最大飞行速度 1.4M (maximum speed)
飞控系统 3轴4冗余电传飞控系统 (flight control system)
转场航程 3100km (flight range)
作战半径 1200km (operation range?)
最大载弹量 3800kg (maximum payload)
任务载弹量 3500kg (task payload?)
起飞距离 200m (liftoff distance)
FC-1的技术数据
翼展 8.98米 (wing span)
机长 14.30米 (plane length)
机高 4.90米 (height)
主轮距 2.54米
前主轮距 4.94米
正常起飞重量 9100KG (normal liftoff weight)
最大起飞重量 12700KG (maximum liftoff weight)
外挂能力 3800千克 (payload)
机内燃油 2300L (internal tank)
最大马赫数 M1.8 (maximum speed)
实用升限 16500米 (maximum operating altitude)
起飞滑跑距离 450米 (liftoff distance)
maximum G 8G
thrust 81.4 kN
This is exactly why many people in China would rather China use L-15 than FC-1
Wingman
11-24-2005, 12:59 PM
... why?
Those stats suggest the FC-1 is superior to the L-15 in almost every aspect
tphuang
11-24-2005, 03:44 PM
It would appear that way, but you have to look at the big picture. J-10 is already in service, so FC-1's specs are at best secondary in plaaf. L-15 has the advantage of the short liftoff distance and its payload is similar enough to FC-1 despite being a much smaller jet. Basically, L-15 can do a lot of what FC-1 can do, but has other usage too.

Russia to provide China with 240 jet engines in next 5 years
In the coming few years the total demand from southeast countries for Il-76 combat-support cargo aircraft and Il-78 air refueling tanker will surpass 50, a spokesman of Russian air company Ilyushin said at the 8th Pulau Langkawi air show held in Malaysia.
Russia is talking with several southeast Asian countries over the selling of Il-76. Experts estimate demand of 12 sets from Malaysia and Indonesia respectively. Besides, Vietnam and Thailand showed strong interest in Il-76MF, a heavy cargo aircraft equipped with PS-90A engine.
Persian Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia and the UAE also expressed their intention to purchase Il-76. Ilyushin leaders also expect an order from Jordan.
Russia inked a deal with China in last September to provide 38 Il-76MD military cargo aircraft and Il-78MK air refueling tanker (equipped with D-30KP-2 engine). According to the contract, Russia will also provide China will 240 sets of engines from 2006 to 2010, their total value exceeding 300 million US dollars. The whole contract is worth about 1 billion dollars. All these planes will be assembled by Tashkent Aircraft Production Corporation, Uzbekistan.

12-15-2005, 01:29 AM
did you read the article? It mentions JF-17 and then a major ticket item that started development in 2000. And that plane has to have training and striking capability. It said it finished development and joined service in 5 years. It said it started low rate production in just 5 years from the start of the project. That's the shortest in plaaf history.

No fair!! i want a toy flanker too!!!
do you get a toy flanker for serving with the plaaf? thats my incentive to join!!
i think the guy in the middle is the captain, and hes going over manuvers with his men using dummies.

i think the guy in the middle is the captain, and hes going over manuvers with his men using dummies. If you want a flanker replica, go to a hobby shop and purchase it there.;) That technique of training must be really old. I saw a chinese propaganda poster with a pilot holding a plane replica. What are they going to get out of doing manuvers with toy planes? why not play video games like all the other countries instead?:D

really? oh, I thought those high tech simulations and projections had all taked over this stuff:o . ok it just seemed very old aged thats all. One of the best ways to visualize a manouvure - try it with a computer simulation so that you - as an individual - can manipulate two planes at once to demonstrate a problem and solution - far easier to convey by hand...

In the first photo, I spy four UAVs. That includes what is known as but unconfirmed as the YJ-62 LACM up front. (Notice the wing, the tail, and the booster.) The UAV behind it is the WZ-2000(WZ?What in the.....) Stealth UAV (It made maiden flight in Dec 2003 according to Dongfeng). Good stuff. If you pay attention, there is the CK-1 flying target in Orange. And in the back is something new apparently......... I've seen such a UAV in Iran and I think also in Saudi Arabia. Don't know when it came over the Himalayas......... Wonder about it though.

Something about the so called JXX looks familiar, oh yeah, didnt we already declare that a fake? We said it already in the begining. i think on page 2 of this thread. Sorry. It would be nice if that was real. the last picture could be possibly real.

there is no way that last picture is real!!! dream on guys!! there is noe way the plaafr woul reveal actuyally j-xx photo so early. j-10 photos didnt appear until 1996, when someone smuggled a shot of the j-10 in its first test flight which is only a rumor). thats 12 years into j-10s development.
any person who has any idea of what cgi looks like can tell thats a fake

Yes, the last does look more like a computer generated photo than a real one. simple cut and paste. Till now I really have no idea how Jian XX would turn out. There are just so many pictures, which mostly are artist impressions, one even had the JXX with swept wing design!

They look like real things, especially the first one. it looks impressed. but i don't like the canards they added on it. the first one looks like mig mapo & the second look similar to f-22.
