Well here is a surprise and quite a smooth transition.

How are the old members settling in?

More too the point, if your accedemic year is soon to start, then I guess you will be a more rare visitor as you concentrate on your studies. I hope you do not allow any conflicts to your long term interest to occur.

My fun and games are continuing  and can only hope that the EU Commission is forced to buckle under the growing public, international and business community pressure.(Mandy  is wriggling on the hook, which is a sure sign of which way the wind is blowing, I just hope people remember that he is a source of the problem not; as he will claim, the person who solved it).

It is fun though listening to Communist Party Ministers, lecturing the EU and USA on the merits and morality of Free Trade.

Well nothing much more to say at present, I have not seen or read much last few days, which leaves me preciously sjhort of subject matter.

Over too you.

yes, lot of work and adjusments still needed before we can gain 'full operationality' as speaking whit military terms...the new more profesional look on our forum needs a faceclearing and more strickt rules...some of our kids have had hard time to deal whit that.

...Sampan Viking??? Misspell or intentional??

Yes it is SamPan -SanPan was a mis-spelling, A SamPan is a small Chinese House Boat. Its a small matter, but just like the chef about to be cooked by the Cannibals and watching far too much Garlic being thrown with him into the pot, it matters!!!!

Thanks for recommending me for VIP status - I have been informed it has been granted :)

I gather you have a notion who is posing as Vincelee at the moment, younwould you like to say whom privatly? I had an idea, but I saw they were registered already.

Well thats me and Mrs Sampan is demanding access to the computer for her purposes :( so I had better sign off and let her.

One major fault in new forum is that we still don't have dedicated political and economical discussion subforum, but i'll think the professional discussion arena could also serve a forum for those as well.

I am having problrms with these new avatar rules, I am having difficulty getting the image small enough whilst still legible. Any chance of tgetting the memory and p-ixel capacities increased.

What a day yesterday. It started of beautifully and so I arranged with the Mrs to meet her in town late afternoon and to go to a Chinese Restaurant we had only just discovered. I was in town all day - no coat - no jacket and was dismayed to see the sky cloud over and get darker and darker, plus more and more humid throughout the afternoon. Then by 4.00 pm the skies opened and a massive electric storm started. I was petrified, not by the storm, but by the prospect of being blamed for dragging Mrs Sampan  out in one!!!!

Thank God it stopped raining just before I was finished and able to go find her, in the end the weather was good and a fine evening had by all :p

That aside today has been quiet and uneventful, I have been shocked by the scale of the flooding in the US however and view with "interest" the unfolding problem with serious Oil production disruption. This could be interesting. Utelore is proposing an interesting discussion in the PF, if I get a few moments I may try to give him a background. I am too tired to do it tonight.

Signing Off - the Bjerhalla is calling :D

Well i had those proplems whit the avatars also...Jimmy couldn't move his hand and his stucked whit that "nazi-welcome" position...hope no one getting offended...

and your day...sounds exactly like normal finnish summerday...first it shines all around...then sudenly from out from the blue, dark clouds appears and thunderstrom is above you...then after about 30 min. sky is clear again as nothing ever happened...

I'm also plannig to take part of that Utes Taiwan discussion...but i'm also working on this longer post about modern chinese artillery and i haven't find time to do neither ones at these couple few days...

That oilprizes discussion remined me of something...I was waching a this document couple days ago about Biodiesel...normal frying grease could be used, whit slight rehandling as a fuel for diesel cars!!! The interesting part of that was that finnish government haven't done nothing to improve this new technologys position and have given absolutely nothing to the reshearch, whatsoever...At the same time it's getting more and more popular in other parts of europe...

The Turnips (or rape?) farmers could sell their crops to the fuelcompanyes whit much more higher prizes that to the foodproduction...is our Governments opposition based on similar "values" as on the grains used for heating-issue????

This must be the busyest day I have had on the forum for weeks - 4 posts, most quite long.

People in remote areas have been putting chip pan oil into their cars for years. Its quite illegal overhere, and as your car stinks like a fish and chip shop, pretty easy to spot. I am not sure what the main objection is, but if the technology could be cleaned up emission wise, (olfactury and otherwise) it could be a good idea. Dont think Dubya and friends would be too keen.

Anyway how do you think the new forum is shaping up, it seems to me a little more quiet than the old one, but that could be just a phase. Are we seeing many new members from Webmasters side? have we manged to keep all the active members from EZ Board and have we maged to attract some old members back?

I put my 2 penneth worth into Utelores thread - perhapse some others will now kick it off properly.

Well all our "kids" sure have come here...and making my job as a mod(at least in the first days) remind more of a kindergarden teacher's...We Pakistanese members have joined in who previously wasen't onboard ezboard...but mostly they are old active users...perhaps Savoer and his great pics haven't find their ways in here...at the moment no one else who would be a resource to us don't come to my mind....

Glad to see the junior section is keeping you busay :D - where do they get all this energy from?

As you can tell I am having a lazy weekend, (allthough I have plenty I should be doing :( ) I have spent hours trying to gem up on Stirling Silver and CZ Jewellry in order to process a new client. Beautiful stuff, but a b****r to match against rival stocks as it quite different.

Have you been following the build up to President Hu's visit to the USA. I felt the US was very wrong not to accord it a State Visit, and now I understand that Hu and Bush may not meet at all, due to Katrina. Hu offered the US $5million in aid, did the US accept?

My view is that if the US is going to be that rude, dont buy Boeing but buy Airbus!!! The US seems to be displaying the "if I cant win, I dont want to play attitude" that one usually associates with a 5 year old.

The Aircraft Carrier thread in PD is very good, I tried reading the old one, but their seemed to be way too much spam to make a solid connection through each relevant point. This is much clearer. I hope Utelores topic picks up soon and runs at the same level.

yeah, and the first feeling that i get after reading the Dongfengs modest inbox mail telling me that there is this new forum, was that- gee finally we could move towards more repectable forum, in line whit the main site's reputation... :(

actually i have enter some sort of newsdenial after i move back to my student flat...of the four national TV channel, only two are shown in my TV and that kinda kills the need to sit in front of the telly whole nigth...But as for Bush behaivior, sad that it is sometimes actually more ridicilous than in his opponents jokes...But didnt Saddam once offer a aid bagage to US poor's??

Yeas, I think it have been good that it can take place whit out the 'kids' for a start, maybe if we 'vips' run out of ideas we could move it to general forums...

And that Utes Taiwan conversation is good singh, so far it havent filled up to page five whit only personal insults...maybe when i finaly manage to write that artillery essay, i can give some deeper insigth about Taiwanese defence against overhelming enemy- a issue very close to our Finns heart...

I Dont believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By PC blew up on Monday morning. We cannot access our website, receive e-mails or anything.

On top of this it may take over a week before I know if it can be repaired or wether I have to buy new and start re-configuring everything. Naturally I had not backed up for ages!!!

So I might be out of action for at least a couple of weeks. Unbelievable.

Back when I can.

Hi Gollevainen

Yeah I'm back and not too much damage done :p . The PC was a write off, so I've had to stick my hand in my pocket  and buy a new one. Its nice :D but Its taking ages to restore all my old software and data :(

Fortunatly it seems that all the bras, knickers and trousers are on the move to final delivery, so deals can finally be concluded (que wrangles over late delivery) so I will at least start to get paid.

Well I am going to take a wonder around the forum and see if I can stick my nose into where it is not wanted.

So it seems I am not the only one with technical problems. a Russian computer - sorry - a bent Russian Computer!!!! It sounds sexy in a grungy sort of way. Let me guess its Utiltarian design but solidly built?

The boards certainly seem better on this forum, I am tempted to respond to a few, time allowing.

I have read your article on Artillery, and the other threads about Missiles and smart launchers replacing Arty etc. Now obviously i do not know anything about Artillery, but I do know about Marketing Hype and much of what I have read smacks of it. I also know how the MOD works, so if the Pentagon works in the same way (pretty safe bet that they do) then it is a revolving door for senior Execs from the Armaments Industry to serve as "special advisors" on a regular and periodic basis.

This means that US policy is being increasingly driven by Industry preferences (Missiles and Helicopters expensive - Good, Guns and Shells Cheap - Bad). I suppose this sort of policy can work against Banana Republic no hopers, but it would quickly collapse against a real enemy.

I suppose I should have posted this view in a main topic, but well :) I wanted a chat.

Yeah i think thats the case. "lobbing" as they say here....I don't have any numbers to back me up, but i'll think the spending in US military is quite close to those Reagan era. Back then the military got anything they wanted, even that silly "starwar" missile defence system, althoug it never came operational...But now Buhs have it's own missile defence system....

As it also discussed in here, the chinese growing strength is almoust like lotterywin to american defence industry. To get the govenrment buy guns, you need an enemy, and strong, potential and communist superpower is much far better than some mystic terrorist lurking behind the shaddows...

By the way, i'm plannig to awnser that utelores Taiwan topic in the proffesional discussion forum...when i find time to it, the school likes to keep me bussie...but as from small country myself, i'm plannig to keep Taiwans side against the big aggressive neighbour...and prove that it isent so easy to occupie Taiwan even whit the quantity edge that PRC posses.

Is it really a week since I last posted here

As you can imagine I have been having losts of fun trying to reconfigure the new machine and re-install the data etc. :(

a little ray of sunshine, is that (after 5 years of Windows 98II) I was able to install an old game I have that Windows 98II would permit to run. Its was made by a firm called Talonsoft and called Eastern Front II. I dont normally have much time for this kind of thing, so am usually quite picky how I send my treasured leisure hours, but this is a proper war gaming package of the German - Soviet War. It operates at platoon level (from Battalion to Army Corps!!) with proper formations and armaments which vary for the precise date and organisation with which you choose your campaign or scenario. I think you would like it.

Do my eyes decieve me - RiceNspice Banned?!?!?? What did the foolish young man do for that???

Its funny how events can so quickly come and illustrate a few points I have been making at times on the forum.

Do you remember in the "Why didnt China dominate the world thread) I expressed my doubt about the USA being able to maintain its Federal Integrity in the event of a major national crisis. Well I think the Hurricane has exposed those weaknesses quite starkly. You can easily imagine if the local emergency had been a wider spread crisis, just how American Civil Society could collapse completely.

The Hurricane also nicely illustrated the G Bond argument, used in the context of an ecconomic or military spat between the USA and PRC. In it, New Orleans is the USA, the Hurricane is the Spat, and The River Levies are the Dollar's World Reserve Currency status. The rest is I think self explanatory.

Anyway, thats enough about me, how has the world been treating you recently?

I become to wonder where you have been...well about the games, i must confes i'm not very on to them, when i was a kid we didn't have computers and altough our first computer came along whit few games i bored on playing those few games quite fast and there i was on the edge, Should i go and buy a new one or find other things to do? I chosed the last one so i never got addicted to them. Sometimes i feel that it would be nice to play some good strategic wargame but i have never done nothing to satisfy that need...perhaps when i'm rich engineer... ;)

Do my eyes decieve me - RiceNspice Banned?!?!?? What did the foolish young man do for that???

Yeas, well what can i say...and not to "speak thrass" about him as his ban is lifted in next sunday....He and Ger_Mark clashed against each others in most dislikeble manners...it was even worst than whit britboi...I honestly felt shame for them, dongfeng have tryed hard to make this new forum proffesional and these kids comes and ruins it. Well as a supermoderator i have the power to ban members so i decided to make them as an example and banned them for week.

...Is the dawn of the great empire at hands? I have also wondered when the US hegemony will cease and have come to that conclusion thát the reasons must come from inside. No outside power can overhelm USA but if the internal proplems comes too big, USA is forced to consentrate on itsefl and leave the arena for new players...what are those internal proplems? perhaps a radical shift in ethnic balanze backed up whit right ignators to flame the rised anger due the new changes...?

I see the disciplinery Fun and Games continue, it must be very dispiriting. I also notice that you have 2 referrals posted to your name  This I gotta hear!!!!

Anyway I have a suggestion. As it is highly unlikely that any 14 year old is going to consider and construct arguments like a 40 year old, but; at the dame time, you do not wish to obstruct these kids in the development of debating technique and postulation and subject analysis. Why not have a seperate forum for the under 18s, a forum in which those under 18 or who act under 18 will be restricted to posting in untill they demonstrate that they are mature enough to participate in adult conversation.

This is a win win, as nobody will have any doubt about the level contained in a Junior forum and it can still be moderated for flaming and personal attacks etc.

Worth considering?

Sometimes i feel that it would be nice to play some good strategic wargame but i have never done nothing to satisfy that need...perhaps when i'm rich engineer

i've have absolutely no idea what that referal thing means

hmm, about that junior forum, if we had one we would give up to those kids...the previous forum was like that and no one took us seriously. As whit the new forum, dongfeng wanted to eshtabilis the forum as it should have been, professional discussion about chinese military matters. I don't miss those kids if they suddenly want to leave us alone, our strickt moderating guideline have already make some kids think twice about posting here...
If those kids want to learn, my obinion is taht they can do it elsewhere....

Well most of my summer earnings goes to drivers licence (i've been delaying it way to far...i lost few jobopportunity cos i didn't have one) and a car...

We finnish student gets this studentbenefit wich is about 256 €+ 80% of your rent in a month. You are allowed to earn 550 € besides that in a month. Now heres something.

Reading through some recent posts on the forum I think I might have hit on too an answer for your old question "why did'nt China dominate the world".

The truth I believe is the Chinese equivalent of a Dark Age.

The history of China seems to be a series of Invasions in which Barbarian Invaders are assimilated into the nation and the nation increases in size as a result. Something similar happened with the Mongols. What is misleading I think is the difference of Style and Substance. The Barbabians quickly took on the style of the Chinese, but were still Barbarians at heart and retained barbarian values; ie militaristic values and anti acedemic - anti-science etc. Just imagine what Rome would have looked like at the end if Attila the Hun had captured the Empire intact and switched to wearing Toga's and Laurel Leaves.

Eventually of course; after a number of generations, the Mongols assimilated psychologically as well as stylistically. This would have coincided with the Russian counter offensive that would eventually push all the way to the Pacific and the destruction of the Kingdoms of the Golden Hoard.

At this critical time, just when China would have realised they were technologicaly inferior to the Europeans and start to take the appropriate steps to catch up - what happens? - a new Barbarian Invasion by the Manchu's and the return to a new Dark Age - with Obsolete Military practices being valued above progress and development.

But here is a sobering thought: It took Europe a thousand years to claw its way back from the fall of Rome to the Renaissaence. China seems to have accomplished this in about three centuries. Further, it looks as though the Barbarian frontiers have all been tamed, the melting pot is full and starting to bubble again........

Your thoughts?

Gollevainen
10-04-2005, 03:43 AM
Well there's interesting tought...May this mean the speed of chinese developing is going to surpass west? This "moral downgrading" what someones calls it, can it be that west is now on the edge on the doom and China just keeps on going...hmm...not to carry out too much lets focus on your tought.

One thing that must be remembered whit china, is that as it became relevant in the old discussion, China has been united unlike europa. I still belive that this coased much of the downgrading but it supports your tought as well. As united the progress ablyes roughly the whole country and when it cathes the speed the modernization is fast. But if new downstream hits, it is much more devastating than whit case of "multipolar" europa. I must confess my knowlidge of Chinese history is still far too limited. I'm actually just now started to look deeper than beginig of 20th century in history general. At the moment i'm digging to Russian history before the Tsarist era...but it's not long way from there to China and my road leds inresistenbly to that direction.

But if we go back to china, THe revolution in 1949 isen't the couse why china is still decades behind west, it was more like the neccererity that made the whole progression possiple. As my history knowlidge have black hole abou the size of chinese history untill 1910, perhaps an inside what stopped that progression or at least slowed it down? What coused the situation where the western powers where able to rip-off china and laying the ground for Mao's march? I'll try to look up for it and perhaps then we can continue this rather promising discussion...

I would have thought they would have been your best friends - building all those lovely targets for you to aim at

well its a result of these silly military heritage, this friction between engineers and artillery...both are ranked rather 'unmanly' and unheroic branches by infantry and other 'macho' branches gettin all showtime in movies and other fiction. So offcourse we 'lower' soldiers keep fighting over the most lowest part in the great ranking of military branches...dont know if this is universal, but least it is universal here in finland. We had some nasty marching tunes involving infantrymens wifes and their dogs and an engineer and gunner doing some nasty things to them (you can imagine wich one scored wich...:D)
Also pretty much tells the most lengendary toilet inscription: "cows like green; gays like purple and women likes red!" The branch colours in finnish army goes like; green for infantry, purple for engineers and singal and red to artillery and so on...

Like in my brigade, some eigth years ago, an artillery conscript ordered pizza from nearby pizzeria to the garrison gate. But it ended up that bunch of artillerymen find out that there's some engineers pizza waiting in the gate. So these geniouses decided to fetch the pizza by themselves, couse the 'dogs' (MP, the most hated form of military...at least from conscripts point of wiev) wouldnt care or know who ordered the pizza. Well you can imagine what followed. A riot broke out between engineers and artillery as a groupfigth in the garrison's sporttrack and what a christmas it was to the dogs...:nono:

well anyway, my cousin was serving back then in the artillery and he told it to me (i was rather young back in then) and suprisingly the story was still around when I entered into same regiment! As result of that incident, all other battalions and regiments conscripts were allowed to go on evening leave outside of the garrison, exept engineers and artillery...well not so big misschieve, the garrison was middle of woods, nowhere to go in 40km's radious, but still. So thats why i dont like the refering to military engineers. In finnish language the word engineer is corrupted to 'insinööri(insinoori)' but it aplyes to the civil engineers or engineers as occupation. The military engineers are called 'pioneerit' as pioneers.

Well remind me never to try and nick your pizza.

I wonder if it is time for the Web Authorities to offer VIP membership to some of the other members. I wont mention names but I have noticed a few that are definitly grown ups and maintain dignified and polite posts. I guess there are a few others who seem to have military exerience, but I would not necessarily be able to tell the real deal from BS Merchants.

The point though, is that some good threads are being spoiled by the usual things. A few more VIPS might move some of these posts into the VIP forum and give the issues a chance to be discussed properly.

Any thoughts.

Anyway, as winter now appraoches and the nights draw in (what time does it get dark in Hama now? its about 6:30 in Bristol) I wonder if I can persuade you to try and obtain one of my favourite albums - Hyperborea by Tangerine Dream - it is just ideal for relaxing on a cold day or night.

I'm sad summer is gone now, it was a pretty good one overall, but I never semed able to have time to take advantage of it. Oh well always next year I suppose.

funny you to mentioned it, but i just send webmaster mail earlier today concerning the excatly the same matter...but if you have someone particulary in mind (tough i might already suggested him) fell free to send me inbox mail...

I'm sad summer is gone now, it was a pretty good one overall, but I never semed able to have time to take advantage of it. Oh well always next year I suppose.

for me the autum and comming of the winter usually means getting back to the "everyday life" so to speak...summer is just this short period of relaxation and tenderness to the hard life...

actually the darkness comes roughly at the same time...at the moment, after the winter takes the lead, gloom arives at early as 14:00-15:00...and norther you go the the shorter the daytime comes and around christmass, in lappland there's hardly any day at all...
But about that band...isen't it some sort of folkband? Well my musical taste and ecspecially the way how i listen it is quite weird...sort of a grasshopper-style. I pick this one or two bands and consume them to the point where there is nothing left...at least i did so when i was younger. After i aquired almoust all possiple zeppelin-albums and other stuff, i moved over to the Who and Jethro Tull. Nowadays i'm learned to be more "wiser" listener and i'm eagerly expanding my collections...so perhaps that Tangerine dreams will find its way to my recordshell...

Heres something I think you can answer for me.

Whever I look at the older PLA armour still in service, I tend to look at it with very British eyes and say "now if I were running the show and was given these, what would I do with them"

To me it seems pointless using a T55 as an MBT, but using it as close support for IFV's (even if only something to draw fire as the Infantry head into Urban Cover) or Mortar Carriers - AA Wagons or even Tracked Artillery, seems the best route.

You know this old Russian (style) stuff very well, so would this be a feasible use of old and obsolete kit or is it just niave?

Otherwise TF its Friday at least now I can relax a bit (I will have my new software delivered tomorrow, so I can get the Website moving again.

wow, you brits eat bit late...

but as for those tanks, you are on rigth tracks, but the main disavantage is their age. Old junk needs more maintannance and its rather pointless to operate tank that needs a dedicated maintannace platoon to suport its actions.

There is no point for PRC to try replace them one by one basis. Its no more relevant to the current PRC threat perdictions. Massive tank armyes are needed when invading (or defending) another country whit considerable military assets to counter your invaision, but I think that time have passed beyond it now. All potential countryes for china to do so poses a Nukes by now and they practically calls it of. And you dont ride to Taiwan whit massive ammouts of tanks, you need to ship the ower water, and its complete waste to do so whit piece of junk that cannot counter Taiwanese forces...not that it requires much, Taiwanese tankforces arent much to brash about.

other wise its been rather hard week for beeing moderator....Vincelee has started terrorise my e-mail, and I've run out of ideas and curses to say to him...that guy has some serious proplems and hate inside him.

But i have come to think that its almoust amazing that theres no other taiwanese guys running wild here. Cos, if looking from taiwanese (vince's) point of view, some of our threads are bit offensive and flaming, and vince cannot be only nationalist in that island. If you take look of some india-pakistanese conversation in other forums, its afwul and ugly stuff said there to each others but not so much in here. Just makes me wonder....(man its must be pretty late for me trying to understand vinces point of view:confused: )

Tell me about it 7:30 if i'm lucky 8:00 normally. My old dad has had dinner on the table at 6:00pm every day of his life. Talk about a different world.

Anyhow - an observation.

Do we still have any survey tools on this forum?

The reason I ask is this. As a discussion board, all too often threads degenerate into an arguement between a handful of posters all repeating their entrenched positions and nobody listening to each other.

A Debate in contrast, is about two sides providing opposing arguements in order to influence the views of others.

So can we I wonder run threads for a period, untill decent arguments run out, close the thread and then conduct a survey as to how members rate the arguments.

Think its possible?

More fun and games on the forum.

I am disappointed by Chinawhite resorting to personal abuse, I hopw he will reflect upon it when he returns.

But I think it does reinforce my interest in trying to move to a more debate style format rather than argument. A debate is about trying to influence the views of others listening to opposing arguements, rather than simply two people attacking each other.

hmm...you mean like some sort of voting on closed topics wheter they should be reopened?

Not so much that but voting on the quality of the arguments and who you agree with. Flaming is totaly counter-productive as it only alienates those listening.

Otherwise how is life treating you - the evenings seem to be really drawing in, getting wetter and colder and overall more miserable. Christmas in 2 months:( I havent even started buying my presents yet.

I read somewhere recently that Finalnd was the first or second least corrupt countries in the world whilst the UK was down in 17th place - well thats the Blair effect for you. China was not in the top 5, fortunatly however, it was not in the bottom 5 either.

I also notice your comments on Sibelius in the Natonal Anthem Thread, I guess you have never heard Micheal Palins "Finalnd" Song:rofl:

I think National Anthems say a lot about the character of a country Britain and Germany, Slow Pompous and Ponderous, USA Flash and Glitzy, Russia trying to keep up spirits in the bl**dy weather etc. My favourite though must be the Italian - it just sounds like a good knees up at the local Trattoria - if you know what I mean.

Well whats bug me most about that incident that it wasent firstime somebody attacks directly towards me couse of my moderation and uses my militaryknowlidge and opinions as a club...It happened two or three times in the old forum, and there as result of my too 'pro-indian' views that seems to piss chinese nationalistic hotheads more than beeing pro-taiwna independence. Is inviting (the invitor is most likely building again in the same county) the local building inspector to "harjakaiset" (this party or celebration of builders after house is build) corruption, where's good food is offered, a sauna and ofcourse lost of alcohol ??? Is it corruption when this same inspectors got away whit only note from local police after driving bit too fast and my dad (i was whit him in the occasion) got 105€ ticket for same overspeed in the exact same place...and the local police was just waiting for structual inspection of his own house being build....???

Hello old mate

I have just been watching the BBC news and it seems as though life for you could be about to become more interesting.

They had an Interview with your Prime Minister and his basic message seemed to be, that Finland needs to reduxe both taxation and welfare costs, in order to remain competitve against gloabl competion, principally India and China. Does Finland need to look very far for a preferred alternative? .... well no, it just needs to look across the Gulf of Finland to ..... Estonia. Yup seems thats where you guys are heading - low flat tax and Wils West capitalism.

I gather that you Finns are a hardy bunch and particularly adept at plunging into icy cold water. Well with these economic charges you will find such an ability very useful indeed.....

Also in the news an amazing allegation from the US Senate against a British MP, George Galloway. I am not a political supporter of Galloway, but I agree with much of his viewpoint on the Gulf War and I am incredulous of the campaign that has been whipped up against him. Potentially this could be quite dangerous, as he is a Democraticaly elected MP, who publically expresses the views and opinions held by many millions of Brits, none of whom would ever dream of voting for him. He is therefore our unofficial voice of conscience and we all enjoyed watching hom savage the Senate back in May. Potentially; under a one sided agreement, he could be extradited and tried in the USA. This would be very damaging to UK US relations and the fall out could be very real long term public damage.

Hopefully the US will have more sense than to persue this, sadly however, with the Sociopathic y;) ;) s that seem to run the US these days - I am not very optimistic.

Well what our prime minister said, reflects pretty well what the 'elite' thinks nowadays. yhe welfare sosiety starts showing sings that the road has come to its end. Personally i see that the most threathening thing to our future and only thing to make it worse, is that these same guys who make the decissions are also headlong towards NATO and then we would be targetted by terrorist!!
But in current economical situation, where the old Soviet Union and bilateral exports arent any longer providing solid finacical back up for the system, our nordick model just cannot whitstand the pressure. Its sad, but only ways are to go more dramatically inside sosialism or in the other way. The middle road of social democratics that has dominated the athmosphere in this part of the world has come to its end. sad, very sad...:(

Also in the news an amazing allegation from the US Senate against a British MP, George Galloway.

I have to admitt that I havent heard of him before, our media rarely steps in to the US-UK relations...finnish media is, at least from my opinion, as democratic as it is in PRC. All major news papers are owned by single company, and only source of foreing news seems to be our sole news agency STT which is also owned by same people. Even the state owned YLE (our BBC) gets its news from STT as well as all newspapers. Only exeption migth be our biggest daily paper, Helsingin Sanomat, which has some sort of own foreing news reporting chain, but they are solid anti-russia/soviet, anti-communist, pro-NATO, pro US pamflet so...and they too much china brahshing too, in same way that people here claims neo-cons of US do...

And only alternative sources are, in other hand very convinced that reports of North Korean famine are mere capitalistic propaganda and Kim is heartfull, and peace loving leader that shines in the Korean sky like big brigth shooting star....So then you try to make a objective image of the world and believe that west is the best.

But life do smiles sometimes. Like in yesterday, I finally managed to find some sort of good images and data on this canceled Yugoslavian Fighter jet, Novi Avion, that has long been my number one target when scrolling through military field. (I actually made a thread about this to celebrate my discovery in the world armed forces thread)
And late last nigth i find this Russian site that has put all numbers of Morskaya Collectiya, a preiciated Russian naval journal to online. From those numbers I found lots of new and intresting stuff, thougth one of the most wonderfull picture of unbuilt and -aprroved concept of Moskva class Helicopter carrier, but the pic showed in thumpnail, didnt open fully, but only to halv of the picture and all data that was writen in the bottom of the pic, left out:mad: And it that kind of proplem is so typical to Russian internet site, and it always tends to concentrate to those most intresting pictures....

Suprisingly warm (20 degrees C tomorrow:confused: ) but also mostly pretty wet. Temperatures expected to fall sharply by next week. Our clocks go back for Winter daylight saving, this Saturday - do you have such a thing in Finland.

That Aryan thread is interesting. Mrs Sampan refuses to believe in any form of Darwinesim and gets a real wobble if you tell her shes descended from a monkey!!. Hello Gollie old boy - looks like they let us back in - jolly good show!

Now grab a chair and pull it over, I,ve got my Gin & Tonic and I got a large Vodka and Lime for you. I also grabbed a couple of papers, South China Morning Post for me and Pravda for you.

Good to be back eh, a bit like being rescued from a Desert Island (one of the really drab ones without any willing dusky maidens to help combat the ennui!)

So you see, things have a tendancy to bounce back just as you think the only way is down.

Well today has been quite busy, Mrs S took my wallet and Credit Cards for a nice trip Christmas Shopping:( and I am feeling much lighter as a consequence.

What do you guys normally do for Christmas? yeah its only a couple of weeks away now and so much reamins undone.

Do you Finns have a traditional Christmas Dinner? In Britain it was always a Roast Goose Dinner, but over the last hundred years its become a Turkey one. For Desert we are usually presented with an Impossibly Rich Hot Fruit and Nut Pudding, (Christmas Pudding - a throwback to the age of much colder winters and no central heating?) usually served with Cream or Thick Brandy Butter, all of course liberally washed down but whatever Grain or Grape Beverages come immediatly to hand.

Anyhow do hurry and join me - its nearly time for Port and Cigars:D

Yeah hope this goes well...

well rather busy weekend it has been for the forum's sake. We had our last quirell with Chinawhite and now his permanetly gone...

thougth this moving have somehow made reveal my more itense hobby, twice.. and both times it lost in transistion...are the gods or fate giving me a change to not to make fool of myself?

Anyway, yes christmass...I recieved 230 euros of tax refunding and im going to spend it completely to nonsense like presents and so...my father is currently declared to personal bancracy by the tax officals and my mother is going truogh tigth payment program for the bailift so its rather lame chirstmass this year...and first since all of us kids are living in by their own and to return home...so quess i have to start focus on giving, than recieving...

Well but to cristhmass traditions - huh? Dont you remember that Father Christmas LIVES in Finland...in Korvatunturi (Ear mountain in its lapland form  ) Almoust in Russian side of the border...a sligth missthinking for those who waged our wars...
Anyway i have heard this heretic rumours that He migth live in north pole...:nono: so remeber well what to tell to your kids...:p

But the important factor of cristhmass -food! Yes we have traditions about that. Ham...complete rear end of a Pig, 10 kg of meat stucked in every finnish owen in chirstmas eves eve nigth...talking about BIGGEST electry peak of the whole year...
We also have this good potato, carrot and Lanttu (weird root-vegetable, blummer carrot??, dont know the london languages name for it) boxes and fish contaminated whit the stuff thats opposite to acid in chemistry (forgive but foodside isent my strong points in english), In our family its also meatballs and plume pudding...

But offcourse its last rush in school, all those exams and raports to finish...
...and getting my driver licence is starting to become more and more bitchy as i failed the final driving test simply becouse some monkeys conscripts of our army had parked their truk too near to the crossroad and i forget to stop....:nono:
Who the hell teach them to drive??

The mind boggles - I hope it does not involve cross dressing, but otherwise I wish more people would get involve in untrendy hobbies. I think too much of whats considered cool is dictated by large corporations and revolves around the purchase of their latest products. When I see people who do things such as Folk Dancing or Steam Engine restoration, I always say good luck to them.

Sorry to hear about your Dad, I know you had mentioned this in the past, but I had not realised it was a current event. no, no cross dressing of any sort... I mean that Im determined to become a real author and publish a novel of my own...I have made up a grandiose plan to produce full length novel before end of this decade.
It has always seemd bit silly dream but last spring i managed to write several hundred pages of it before i decided to change the storyline (and therefore managed to f**k up my school motivation along it). I have always feel bit ashamed of it and what others migth think of it, so i have kept it to myself, but now i just couldnt keep it in anymore, sorry to bother you about it, but now it looks more potential than ever and my fingers iches to start working on it again, now as i have understanded the valuable nesseserity of scripwork to conduct the actual writing. Maybe i will evolp into at least table box author of some sort. In some aspects its far better way to escape the reality than watching or reading somebodys others works. GREAT AMBITION!!!! - You just need to follow through. Myself I have done a little writing over the years, a couple of short stories and (Since 1997 1998
:( about half a dozen chapters on a major project, somehow though I doubt if it will be ever finished, as all my late nineties foresights and revalations are now becoming common knowledge.

So is your project a one off or do you have a few finished shorter works already? Do you have a specific genre or a general area of interest? How far have you got? Can you give a general ouline of the story?

I read elsewhere you had passed your driving test:nana: Congratualtions.

Anyhow Mrs S :nono: :nutkick: is approaching so I must run (literally!!!!)

well I jumped first straigth ahead to write directly my novel...I wrote some 135 pages and then i started to feel that the storyline was crappy and I have now made up a new one. In this summer i wrote a short story to this competition, but lets not talk of that no longer...:o A good idea isent enough, you need a narrative script and stick to that, not to change it several times during story whitout starting the actual writing all over again.

Do you have a specific genre or a general area of interest? How far have you got? Can you give a general ouline of the story?

well...That would require a PM, cos Im not sure how it would affect my image in this forum...but lets say that (to those others who secretly read this thread) It has nothing, absolutely nothing to do whit dragons, sword and magic...absolutely nothing...

I read elsewhere you had passed your driving test Congratualtions

Yeah, and guess whos beeing the family bartaxi for nowonwards:mad:

Good God its Christmas already!!!! Am I ready and prepared? Well er…..

Tomorrow we jump into the Car and endure hours of traffic jams and generally going nowhere as we run down the Motorway to the South West for our family Moot. This is my family of course Mrs S’s family are in HK and we won’t be travelling over there until well after the new year.

Still despite the Christmas traffic hassle, its always good to see the relatives again, albeit for a little while.

Speaking of HK, Mrs S was highly entertained by the HK police dealing with the Anti-Globalisation protesters last week. She gets really p****d off by the sight of “foreigners” misbehaving in “her” city.

Not much chance of a White Christmas this year, as the temperature has risen to its highest for nearly two months. Are you still having a weird winter? Or have things settled down to the normal pattern.

Well life recently has simply been a hectic round of work, traffic jams and Christmas Shopping, so I have nothing really interesting to say, except to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas, and if I do not get to post again in time, A Happy New Year.

PS How is the new Taxi Job going?

So, I am raising a small glass of Vodka and saying; as I believe you are fond of saying privately in Finland, “Suuri Suomi – Uraliin asti!”

Well thank god my mother is the sole one to surrender to christmass hustle in our family...She managed to rule her side of the family to supper us in christmas day, so lots of extra fuzzing as our cousin and his one year old daughter comes also. This cousin is more of big brother to me, as his mother (my aunt who died fifteen years ago) got on the wrong side of the tracks and he had spend almoust half of his childhood among my family...so its bit a tense in here also...But winter is white, offcourse, thougth temperature migth rise up to zero on tomorrow, but snow isent going anywhere, in fact they have promised even more of it (and no hard to guess who does the snowworks:mad: )

“Suuri Suomi – Uraliin asti!”

neih, never again, shall not our rules to strike their heads against Karelian pinetree never again!!
Presidental elections are coming so political field starts to awaken too, this time, main issue is going to be presidental power and status of the whole institution. Im going for the sitting one, as no better solutions are awailable

but anyway, merry holiday seasons as well to there... Im wery well sure that my brother has brougth me drum stick to present so i shal start working on my version of Moby Dick for the next year...

Hello Gollevainen

Just breaking cover for a few moments. Against all the odds - on the 27th, the weather took a real tumble to sub zero. Heavy snow in the East of England last two days (have not reached Bristol) More snow moving in from the West (still not yet reached Bristol) Most of country under snow (but not Bristol - may get some later!!!). Do you see a pattern emerging??

Christmas was good. Motorways horrendous!!!!!! At times we took turns to drive, whilst the other walked a bit to stretch our legs. Trouble was by the time the walker had waited for the car to catch up, they were freezing!!

Anyhow must get back into the Scrub, if I do not post again - Happy New Year....

Yeah, lots of snow here also...at one point in christmass eve the blizzard was so tense that powers went off and after it came back, there was much of it that our TV antenna turned to wrong direction...

Anyway nothing came up of my mothers plans to have wide family christmass and non of our invited relatives came up, mostly due some domestick disturptions...and the extra ammounts of food was left for us to bravely get ridd of it...thank good the ham turned bad due too low temperature in the fridge and had to be writen off...otherwise we would have eaten it well into next year

and from that thing we discussed in our PM messages...I got the translation program but its completely useles in translating literacy so guess it ends that experiment, sorry. I simply havent got enough time to work with a text that i have somehow allready abandoned and then do all rewriting in foreing language...:( Maybe in next fall or when the big thing is published and somebody discoveres some 'export' potential of it...I doupt that you know any talented english-finnish-english translator that could help us...i dont know anybody skillfull enough for the task:mad: :(

Otherwise holidays arent been sacret for us mods. Yesterday some new spammer troll entered here, and I banned him this morning...and my older friend mr.chinawhite gave lot of bad taste to my christmass in the Keypublishing forum...

Happy New Year Mr Gollevainen

Well here we are in 2006 and somehow I feel it will be a far better year than 2005.

Yes I popped into the Keypublisher Forum and saw your exchanges with Mr C White. I also noticed he managed to flame with other members too. A shame really as he had promise.

With regard to translation though I have an idea. At the College/University you attend there must be plenty of English Language students. Maybe you approach some of them and see if they were interested in some extra practice (or some other deal). Worth a try, they can only say no.

Well just for once New Year was a quiet affair for us. Usually its a good night out, but this year we made do with some Seventies Glam Rock CD's a few bottles of wine, A Mrs Sampan special dinner (Beef and Tofu in Sizchuan Sauce, Peppers and Mushrooms stuffed with Minced Pork, Fried Noodles and Rice:p ) and a small bottle of Champagne for the Midnight toast. You know what? we thoroughly enjoyed it.

I briefly noticed a post by a Mr America F Y, I am so glad it is no longer there.

Anyhow getting back to normal now, so let me know how things have been with you.

Yeah, im also bit dissapointed to that guy...he had potential, but too big ego to svallow my authority over him, and when we entered into our struggle, he couldnt take it any longer anfd his rather good acting of adult broke down and reveiled the spoilet kid underneath...he has now left me alone, but there migth be more coming up in DF, i hope not, but its a real test for him...

well only thing that was eventfull of my newyears passing was that i and my brother stukced to watch from TV this 1974 concert footage of Finnish rock band called Hurriganes...legendary group which was the one of the first finnish
groups to sing english and generally have that true rock n' roll feeling and touch...
it was rather hilarious to watch after all...

but other things are going as usual, the Taiwan invasion game has got relatively lot attention and a new player has joined in...Finnish expendiotary force (orginally inted to be peace keeping force to ensure our economical intrests in the region) has landed to unknown Philipine iland from near by and are now starting to invade it to get a proper stronghold in the region...there migth be quite different end to all that war when i get to full speed...

All I can say (speaking as someone to whom Rape and Pillage was a mainstay of the old family business) is watch those Phillipino Girls. Once they get there hands on your boys you might find their combat readiness markedly reduced.

I have considered joining your thread, but I cannot decide on which basis. I have four options

1) Be head of the PLA Overseas Shock Armies ie the millions of Chinese students studying overseas. In this position I would launch a decapitation strike against the Western Capitals. Success is guaranteed.

2) As Sampanviking leader the Jomsvikings. We feel great sympathy with the PRC and its problems with Taiwan as we have a similar problem ourselves. We would therefore; in solidarity, undertake the Invasion and Re-occupation of Vinland (North America) which as everyone knows is a rebel province of Iceland.

3) As Cherie Booth (wife of UK Premier Tony Blair) lead the International Womans Peace Movement on a mission to Taiwan as human sheilds to protect the mothers and children of Taiwan.

4) As Prime Minister of UK, decide to "thank" USA for deliberatly wrecking the British Empire post 1945, and just nuke the States anyway.

How to decide??????

Well as for a our wargame....no one knows whats going to happen next, the orginal idea was to provide me a good back up to 'lighten' my approach when i eventually have to close the thread as someones gets too pissed of over the game...A Finnish Peace keeping force enters the scene and but end to all fighting and unsessery slaughter of Taiwaneese people...some how my imagination got too much of grip onto it and I dont know whats the end is going to be...It would rather hard (thougth not completely impossiple) to explain to other 'players' how 5000 strong finnish mechanised brigade could overwhelm entire PLA or US military when its needed for forums sake.
But if you are intressed of joining in, PRC side would propaply need a clear minded adult to counter Seacraft of the US side...he's a new member but seems to be quite intresting fellow and has totally correct attitude towards this thing but i hate to see our kids to be fooled by him and fall into bad behaivior... so obtion 2 sounds most attractive...

Hi Gollevainen

Just a quicky to say do not panic. I got your delivery, but it is in the middle of a bit of a busy time/blind panic, so I may not be able to respond immediately. What I have seen though looks good and well thought out - watch this (or your hotmail) space.

I took a quick nose into that wargame, but I've written myself out now as I do not really have any time for play. Not bad though, Deputy President of China:D not bad at all for a days work. You mods should get in there and start refereeing however as nobody seems sure about where they are or what they got.

Otherwise nothing much to say, the biggest laugh I've had is the leader of the UK's third party (Liberal Democrats) having to resign his party leadership, after he had to admit (what everybody knew already) that he was a drunk.

Anyway Mr Wine Bottle is calling me and as we are old friends it would be rude to keep him waiting.

Skol!!

But as i try to look back in finnish political history, We have had similar things (tough it's hard to belive that someone would be sacked in here for drunking....aren't they all...?) Hi Gollevainen

Glad to have been of some (albeit limited service). Well as you may have guessed, Chinese New Year means I am suddenly with more spare time on my hands and unlikely to be able to get too much more work done for the next week or two.

Poor old Dongfeng, I assume he has gone to China for a few weeks and decided to Re-host Sinodefence.com before he went. Somehow however something has definitly not gone in accordance with expectation. I know DNS forwarding can take a few days to "repopulate" themselves on the Internet, but this is a bit excessive.

I know I was a bit naughty starting that Palestinian Election thread, but it is a major event and hopefully all contributors will behave themselves accordingly.

Other than that what little I have seen of the outside world has been remarkably dull. I know the Iran situation is exciting some members, but the active opposition of Russia and China makes the prospect of any action against them very remote indeed.

I know many in the West would like Mr Putin to take a tougher line with the Iranian leaders, so just for them here it is

"You Iranians should not!!! spend $Billions developing Nucleur Weapons!!!!
when for a fraction of the price you can buy them ready made from us;) "

Otherwise, weather is cold, business is on hold, life is suddenly quiet. Guess I will have to do some house cleaning:(

Hmm...seems like since last week or so this forum has dryed up a bit...or it is that I have only started to enjoy my time whit keypublishing forum's more lose athmosphere...I managed to revial our good old 'why isent china dominator of the western world?' topic in there, mostly to challenge chinawhite into non military depate...It seemed to prove bit too difficoult matter to him but i have managed to ignate some sort of conversation whit others. Anyway, chinawhite mentioned that he had read this topic too, and seeded that there was some sort of change in his behaivior after that...dont know if our difficoultyes migth come to end, well if that the case it has sure been great fun atleast and intresting...hope for both of us

Anyway, that was more to him if he secretly reads this but back to our things. The world is surely living in intresting things, not to mention the middle east but hot topic in finland have been (mostly due our presidental elections) the Russian energy policy and dispuites with Ukraina. We have discovered how dependaple we are from imported russian energy...
Also the EU has been working on discriminating communism in same manner that Nazis have, forcing all the text-books to be changed to say that Marxism ideology leads into stalinins and bla, bla, bla.... I have thougth myslef a modest leftist, more pink than red, but now my blood has boiled to extreme red...
And still, nothing seems to intress this forum into good discussion. Is it our fault? Us who wants to discuss should activily market these subjects?
...oh yes, politics, they have been banned...and did it work? No, it have crepted back...I have startred to consider wheter it was a good idea first place...maybe the proplem is that we lack enough good conversators, not that some issues are too dangerous to us. They shouldnt be, We should know how to discuss civilised over difficoult matters...

But otherwise life goes on. Frankly i give little who gets to be the president, what would it change, they are all the same eleite inspite their 'colour'...wheater has been comfortably warm and calm after the fierce cold, now its only little bit sub zero compared to -30 degree of last week...:coffee:

I bet you thought I was kidding whaen I mentioned house cleaning:mad:

I can assure you that somebody:nono: :nutkick: made sure I have been kept very busy.

Did you say you have had the -30C Russian Winter recently? We have been just about Zero-SubZero the last week and this is cold enough for our blood. How does life go in -30C???? I mean can you dig roads, build houses, do any kind of work outdoors in that temperature. Surely you guys must just seal up the door and throw more wood on the fire. Can little kids even go out in that cold? I thought the air was so frozen it just cut their lungs to shreads.

Anyhow is it my imagination or has the pace picked up over the last week (Chinese New Year holiday, less school work for the ABC's BBC's etc) guess we will just have to wait and see what happens in a week or so's time.

That aside, how are you feeling in yourself, I know that by this time in of a long cold winter, people can get a bit down, waiting for the sun to come back.

Have you got into any renewed writing yet? I would hate to think of all that imagination (not to mention talent) going to waste. You need to do it if your serious, you would be surprised how quickly the years can go, I still have ideas that "I must get around to doing something with" from twenty years ago!!!. sadly as time goes on more and more things get in the way and well.... I am sure you know the rest.

One day I might see if I can dig out one my old efforts and send it across, if that does not boost your confidence in your own abilities, than nothing can.

Anyway I suppose I should find some time to read that new Pentagon Report. Perhaps I can try this evening.

Ciao

Well of course the cold bugs:mad: Expecially as it managed to warm up a bit but it has now returned!! But its nothing unusual. you just use comon sense in dressing up, layer by layer, not just thick and furry, but multible of thin layers...and forget about all vaxations, they are pure nonsense, more dangerous than benefical. Our houses are build that way that the cold stays outside. But consrtuction works are usually done in summers, expecially road building, as the ground frost effectively ends all working. But little kids dont have to go skiing in the school's sport classes, but bigger kids like engineering students have to go to school as usual...thank god I got this rusty old Saab 900, that starts up in any conditions...nordic car it is.

That aside, how are you feeling in yourself, I know that by this time in of a long cold winter, people can get a bit down, waiting for the sun to come back

Thats comon charrectaristic of us...its cold and dark winter all is bad and misserable, but just wait and when the temperatures hit +10 celcius and you see whole nation changing to Bermuda shorts and t-shirts and heding for nearest terass to crab acold beer

Well im full steam to the script line now, I m writing down now the important things to support the actual writing. I have set a dead line to the same date that i started the whole writing in last year, wich was some time in march to be the last day that I should start it, maybe even before. My fingers are iching, But im determent to do it properly this time. Your insigths have helped lot about the other storyes and opened few knotting proplems that there were...

One day I might see if I can dig out one my old efforts and send it across, if that does not boost your confidence in your own abilities, than nothing can.

Other wise things are bit hot for nordics in thse days, the dannish cartoon fuzz...they did burn down a both Norwegian and danish embasyes in Syria...the issue has been banned to be conversated in here, but I have participated to it in else where...Hope there isent any permanent drift between west and east been made...

Just prooves out the fact that they dont do it today how they use to...

I havent actually never heard of these guys, but that Terminal Street hit me rigth from the first chords of the mellotrone intro...;) ;)

But Youtube is great...atleast to the point before someone comes rain the parade with copy-rigth issues, like what happened to the numerous Led Zeppelin bootleg clips. But you cant always get what you want, like someone sung...

Meanwhile in my own musical life, I have gradually learning to play my drum kit...and by play I mean play the inner rythem of the actual songs, not just repeat some beatline. I have also had my little sister's guitar on some sort of home care in my flat, and I can take couple of chords from it:D :D This summer has been quite intresting on musical terms, as The Who made their first visit to Helsinki in 40 years and I was there!!! Jethro Tull is coming in septemper and Im also going to be there....so I have had my glimpse of the dinosaurs, while they still living...just makes me miss that Im born 30 years too late:rofl:

Terminal Street certainly is a killer, so too I would guess in an Artilleryman on Drums - something about loud penetrating noise perhaps with similar devastating effects on the receiving end;)

Good God, Jethro Tull still going!! Still I guess if you want Songs from the Wood, Finland must be your place:D

Have you had a summer this year? We havent:mad: its barely topped 20C all season. Its mainly rained and blown a gale. I think this is nearly as bad as 1985, when I nearly caught phnumonia trying to help keep the last Illegal Stonehenge Festival going at the Summer Solstace:(
