like for one for exemple ?? well, that's a old edition that I bough when I was a kid, it's the 1994 edition, so I was around 10 in this time...this edition is so old that in this book the 113 Qingdao (Type 52) of the PLAN was still building...and the USN only have 6 Nitmitz class in service, CVN-68 (Nitmitz) to CVN-75 (United States)...

well how much it costed?? I would buy one if I would have that kind of monye's...but it would nice if we have the acces to latest books (but then again is ti legal to buy a book, and then 'publish' it on publick internet forum??)
or we could share it whit only those who have contributed to the payment, eq via e-mail, or PMs?? Should we create a task group to study the possibility??
But lets discuss this whit somewhere else, and go back to the topic:off

geez, I already posted this in the J-10 thread. Did you really need to start another thread.
That article didn't mention those al-31fn weren't tvc. It didn't really make a lot of sense, since it said China got AL-31fp in the first bunch, which would then make it tvc version of al-31f.
Anyhow, we know that the Russians have been marketting tvc version of al-31fn to China, it looks like this bunch of al-31fn is at least 2d if not 3d tvc. It looks like WS-10A might not be put on J-10 until at least the 3-d tvc version of it comes out.

hey Rommel, I have that exact same book. I bought it when I was visiting that decommisioned destroyer in Canada, somewhere near Toronto.

it was at toronto's waterfront. the destroyer that joined normandy. i've never went on to it, and i don't even remember the name of the ship. now the ship is gone to hamilton, where i am now. i went on to HMCS Toronto a few years ago, that was fun.....
by the way, we have janes annual ships the....thick book from the 50s to now in our school's library. and tank/artillery, aircrafts too.

well, back to topic. The Russians did demonstrate a TVC equiped Al-31FN back at the Zhuhai airshow in 02, and I don't think Jane is THAT unreliable.

well, when the deal was first signed, how come no info on a TVC engine was revealed? i was undert the impression the al-31s ordered were regualr fns.

well, if you look at the regular AL-31FN, they are 2.8 million each and this one is 3 million each. Maybe that extra 200,000 is for the TVC? if you look at the full Janes article in the other thread, it looks like China is getting TVC engines for the other flankers too.

200000 is a bit cheap for tvc. tvc would incorperate at least a 40% increase in cost.maybe these engines are improved for reliability or thrust.

The Russian engines aren't going to get more reliable, lol. You are hoping for a miracle here. When it talks about improved, I'm guessing it's either going to be AL-31FM or AL-31FM1

My thoughts about russian engines
The problem with russian engines is not reliablilty or power. Its their service life.
Its measured in the hundreds of hours comapared to the thousands of hours with western engines.

proof? russian nuclear engines are very unreliable because of poor safety standards. thsi creates an impression that all russian engines are bad. but thats so wrong. russian tank engies actually are more reliable and less gas guzzling than wetern designs. russian jet engines have great performance and life. as long as the chinese told salyut to inspect for quality.
