on defencetalkforums someone said that the US is thinking about switching from 5.56mm and 7.62mm to 6.5mm or 6.8mm
which brings me to my question, when comparing 6.5mm to 6.8mm which round is more lethal and more powerful?

I am not a gunhead. What I know about this is limited to to what comes up in a google search. My experiance with rifles is fortunately limited to peacetime use of the Finnish ak clone.
If you like you could look up the homepage of Anthony Williams. He has written several books about guns and ammo. One was a collaboration with Max Mopenker who runs a site called world.guns.ru. Both also participates in discussions on Tanknet, which has a search function so you could look up their posts and posts about 6.8 spc. Tanknet is a very classy forum with several current and ex military types.
