Can advanced weapons decide everything? I would to say in fact the ironwilled spirit and courage are the greast power in the combat that beyond any advanced weapon. Here are some photographs I collected from the Internet that reflecting the true lives of PLA.
Everyday, the PLA soldires have to face so much hardly and formidable practice in order to fit to the future combat. Some of them are really tough or even cruel.

The PLA now has stepped into a new period, they have enough ability to defend our motherland's integrity intact. And they will never threat any friendly nation, our goal is to set up a peaceful world since we all love peace and hate war.

The JieFang shoes, in the past 50 years, the Chinese government has adopted this kind of shoes as one of the chief accouterments for the PLA soldiers. In december 2002, the Chinese government terminated their duty.
Every pair of shoes cost 20 yuan Renmingbi, in worth of about 2.5 US dollars.

This picture was captured in CCTV7 news. When I first saw this, I was really shocked, I just can not image how this truck could go throught this narrow way. In the Tibet province, in fact, this is the only way connectd the outside between the Tibetan military base, and without enough helicopters, the PLA have to deliever the daily goods and armament only by this way, also because of this, many young soldiers lose their lives here.

the helos arn't so perfect; in case of fog and storm and in wooden aereas they are useless to.
Well, we also have the Alpes in Europe, and there are small paths (tracks);
in history the german Bundeswehr used mules to transport
the austrian and swiss army did have small off-road transport vehicles, called "Pinzgauer"

The Japanese Imperial military was that way, too. They ended up getting mauled by the US military. The toughest soldiers in the world are ineffective if they can't find or hit the enemy or if they are running low on food, fuel, and ammo.
Pictures like that are good for propaganda or arguments during drinking games, but make little difference when supplies are running low.

There is no use, all it takes is a couple mm of rain fall and the road would be back to "normal", they really need helix up there, and the tough weather makes it extremely difficult. During WWII, the US lost some transporters over the Tibet territory when they shipped goods to China.

I found these pictures intresting. I could imangine the outcry in the US if there were such "camps" as this. Personally, I think, some of the kids in the US need a lot more discipline.
I got these pics from another forum and there was no link attached to the text.
CHINA JUVENILE MILITARY CAMP-epa01035445 Children of a primary school practise military boxing at a juvenile military camp in Lanzhou in northwest China's Gansu province Monday 11 June 2007. It is only about a month and they are not in camps. All level of students elementary, junior high, high, and college, in China are require to have basic military training. It is done on school ground during class hours usually at the beginning first year they enter the school. It is mostly drilling and marching in formations. It does provide some discipline which I think it is very good. I still remember my drill instructor, as little kids, we like ot hear stories.

These camps only have things like drills and discipline and such, nothing on combat training or fieldcraft.
I never had that in primary school. I had 2 weeks training in middle school, in our school's campus, only 2 hours a day. Then 3 weeks in High school, trained and lived in a barrack. Another 3 weeks in college, trained and lived in a barrack as well. It's mainly a training about dicipline.

Wow does Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao seem like a hobbit compared to Prime Minister Gyurcsany Ferenc of the Republic of Hungary. Haha. Jokes aside now. PLA troops in these pictures look very 21st century as in modern. It will be good if all of PLA troops were as equally equipped and uniformed.
Seems the Russians look jealous at the Chinese uniforms and weapons. But anyway Russians look sort of like terroist dont you think in these pictures. Was hoping that they would show PLA troops with the JS sniper rifle but anyway cant have everything in the world.

Perhaps they are just training in the old style uniforms and will be issued the new BDU's just before deploying.

nice pictures :) those are big bowls of rice, but not enough dishes for seven people. I think the earlier food pictures show them eating at the fields, right? They look about the same.

BEIJING - JANUARY 03: Chinese policemen train at their barracks in front of the Forbidden City on January 3, 2008 in Beijing, China. Beijing's police have been ordered to change their attitude or face disciplinary action, state media reported. The city, which is desperate to project a good image when it hosts the 2008 Olympics, has launched a number of campaigns to discourage some of the uncouth practices of its citizens. In the first photo there are Type 83 152mm Self-Propelled Gun-Howitzers
http://www.sinodefence.com/army/artillery/type83sp_152mm.asp
In front of them, the soldiers are cleaning the shells from the grease. When the shells came out from the fabric they have a thin layer of grease. If you look carefully you can see this.
Well I could be wrong so correct me if required. The infantrymen with the sowrd and lighting on their arm badge belongs to some sort of SOF unit.
The soldiers with poking their heads out of the IFV with the China Flage badge in their shoulder are probably training for a overseas deployment otherwise i don't think they will have the china badge. The picture of the bunch of infantrymen posing in front of some buildings "via men watches" looks like they just finished some sort of training or course... those buildings seems to be designed for urban and CQB training purposes.

The second pic is just a normal PLA solders posing for the camera.:D
What the hell is that thing in the sixth pic? I mean that huge turret...
The rest are all special force pics.

A sick passenger was carried away from the crowd by police officers as thousands of passengers waited to get inside the Guangzhou Railway Station in Guangzhou, in Guangdong Province, southern China. Train service here, delayed by the worst winter weather in decades, was restored Thursday, thinning the huge crowds waiting to go home for the Lunar New Year holiday, the nation's busiest holiday travel season.

Hi bd popeye, I know you follow the news of the recent bad weather in south China. And I just saw some comments regarding to the storm on an American car website: http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/03/traveler-shares-harrowing-account-of-chinas-deadly-ice-storm/#comments
Just wondering is that how normal American see/feel this situation? I mean I was quite surprised to see those comments. At the end of the day it's a disaster to human kind, doesn't matter Chinese or American. Just like when hurricane katrina happened people all over the world felt for those who lost their lives and suffered afterwards.
Anyway, I didn't leave any comment over there. Coz I really don't know what to say, just really disappointed to see those comments.

In my honest opinion the PRC government is doing its very best to help all 1.3 billion of its citizens.

No not exactly.
Apparently, the power outages are caused by collapsed masts in a neighboring province to Guangdong, and thus personelle are sent from Guangdong province to give aid. However, since these people are not native to the local geography and the conditions are quite extreme (with the snow) they can only cover at most a few hundred kilometers of cables a day. The PRC for some reason (maybe cost) are not sending in aircraft or helicopter to scout these power lines, despite local requests, delaying the repair whilst poor and desperate people are trapped at the train stations.

Your post makes me wonder what the true human tradgey is of this disaster.
Maybe I should amend what I said by saying the PRC is doing the best it can with what they have. No system of government is perfect.
