From the blogosphere, someone found a booklet called "A Short Guide to Iraq" made by the American military for soldiers sent to Iraq during WWII. Some pertinent tips here!

Pity it has so little information about customs in the area as well as how the local power structures work... but then again you can't expect something written for WWII to be completely relevant to the situation today. That said, most of it just seems to be common sense, or at least retains the principles of not being morally corrupt.

I think something that maybe "The Idiot's Guide to the Middle East" would have been more useful. At least you have a chance at figuring out what's going on. (Despite the name, it's actually a fairly well written book)
