what is a Bmp-1A1????????????????????????????????????????????:

Costas 240GD

It's a modification done to former East German BMP-1s to bring them closer to western standards. It includes the fitting of no-slip pads on the hull, boarding ladder, lights and rear view mirrors identical to those of the Marder, plus the typical Bundeswehr night driving "convoy" shield. The Hellenic Army received 500 of these and at least 100 were donated to Iraq. A Greek modification was the fitting of a cradle on the turret for a M2HB HMG and the turret hatch now swings to the side instead of opening upwards to the front. The gun cradle was removed prior to shipment to Iraq, but the hatch configuration was not changed back to the original.
Hope this answers your question,
Costas.

French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner (C) speaks to Spanish counterpart Miguel Angel Moratinos (R) following their joint press conference with their Italian counterpart Massimo D'Alema (not seen) at the UN headquarters in the southern Lebanese town of Naqura, 20 October 2007. The three foreign ministers reiterated today their commitment toward ending a long-running political crisis in Lebanon that is blocking the election of a president. Speaking at the base of the UN peacekeeping force UNIFIL in south Lebanon, Kouchner, D'Alema and Moratinos told reporters they would impress upon Lebanese leaders during their one-day visit the importance of breaking the political deadlock that marks the country's worst political crisis since the end of the 1975-1990 civil war.

Saad Hariri, center, Lebanon's head of the parliamentary majority, left Parliament under heavy guard after a last-minute session to elect a new president before a midnight deadline failed. The vote to elect a new president will be postponed for a fifth time, with the new date being next Friday. The move prolongs the political crisis that has paralyzed the country for two months and leaves a vacuum at the top level of government.

Two things about the guns in the last post: That fellow in the 1st picture seems to have a very fancy weapon. I'm no gun aficianado, so I don't know what it is. I didn't think that the Guatemalan army could afford that sort of thing though.

Secondly, a Type 56 is clearly visible in those seized weapons in Iraq. :china::D Horray for the Chinese defence industry. :nana:

Ethnic Hmong relatives of C.I.A. Secret War veterans walked through the jungle in the Vientiane province of Laos. The C.I.A. operation, from 1961 until 1975, became known as the Secret War because the fighting to prevent a Communist takeover in Laos was done by the C.I.A.'s mercenaries, most of whom were from the Hmong, a hill-dwelling ethnic minority. Today, thousands of Hmong veterans and their families remain in the jungle.

It sure does...Poor Frenchmens doesen't have proper cloves.

One of the biggest default in our army was also the lack of proper cloves. We had these weak greenleather cloves that had no warming factors at all. Only other solution were combined leather/wool mittens which were quite illustrately called "no-can-do's"....tough I managed to disasemble/assemble my AK with those on (and with the green leather cloves inside those!!)

Being in the army is a one thing, being there at winter in here up north is another..;)
