I have been looking all over the net the last week or so for a particular picture of the Varyag completed as a PLAN carrier. It is the one (actually there were several) of the 1:100 scale model of the completed vessel that was produced by the Hardin Technical Institute at their 50th anniversary.
One of them used to be located at the following web address...but it no longer there, or has been made inaccessable:
http://tuku.military.china.com/military/pic/2005-08-11/815841_725708522.jpg
I had originally linked to it on the "Latest Varyag Pics", thread here on SD at post 407, here:
http://www.sinodefenceforum.com/showpost.php?p=24908&postcount=407
If anyone has a copy of, or knows where any of these pics can be found on the web, please post it to this thread.
I had a request from members on another forum and I want to point them here to SD.
Thanks in advance.

Nope, sorry thats all the model I got. Tphuang might have some...Already asked tphuang and others in PM...and they could not find them either. However, I should have thought to ask you earlier. You are truly the man when it comes to so many PLAN pics.
Maybe someone else will find more. I know there were others, particularly of the model with all the aircraft on the deck.
But these are great and I will point those other folks here now.

As I said...you are the man. These are exactly the pictures I have been looking for. I had forgotten all about imageshack and would never have located them except for your help.
Google was of little help, only leading me to the fact that the model itself was created by Hardin Technical Institute for their 50th anniversary, but not finding any pics. Yahoo, MSN, alta-vista...I could not find these pics anywhere.
Again, thanks so much!

Keep this link on your bookmark, I narrowed the search down only to "中国航母"
which means Chinese Aircraft Carrier...

Type in "中国航母" in Google, and go to images and some of these pictures will appear

My not being able to write Chinese (maybe I should just use a tanslator), kept me from doing that. Bookmarked and saved...I also have saved the pics themselves this time and will have them on my server.

JeffHead,
Thank you so much for locating those pictures. I have been to China twice, and worked with numerous Chinese on engineering projects, and I don't think we have any automatic guarantee of staying ahead of them technologically.

You are welcome...but the thanks really go to SwimmerXC. I could not find them myself, but he was able to not only find them, but show me with written Chinese how to find them myself. Again...many thanks SwimmerXC!

i think carrier borne j-8II would be very unlikely since it has insufficient payload and range.

i think carrier borne j-8II would be very unlikely since it has insufficient payload and range.Agreed. I do not know who made some of the models or arranged the planes on them...clearly, there was not much thought given in some of the models to reality.

the ship seems to have:
8 x 4 YJ-62 ASM
10 x 5 HQ-9 SAM (not sure)
4 x type 730 CIW
2 x Type 75 twelve-barrel 240mm antisubmarine rocket launchers? (not sure)
through this we could tell that varyag posses strong anti-ship and anti-air capability as comparing to other carriers of its class.
Agreed. I do not know who made some of the models or arranged the planes on them...clearly, there was not much thought given in some of the models to reality.
The models were made by students from Harbin Enginerring University. It is said every PLAN ship's design and development has people graduated from this university paticipated.

but during operational states varyag can only have max 10~12 fixed wing planes on deck, there is no way it will reach the amount being placed in the model.
It's a leisure time activity by those students, not a serious design. They built the model to celebrate their university's XXth aneversary, I don't remember how many years. It's not a graduating project or sth.

i think the 4x8 YJ-62 ASM should be replace by 18-barrel Type 726-4 Decoy Launcher to fire off decoys/chaffs from missiles.
