The terms Hyper or Global Superpower are bandied around freely on a daily basis, but what exactly do individuals mean when they use them?

This thread is all about people stating and explaining their definitions. I have started it as I think this is an area which is going to be discussed over the next few months and; given the potential to arouse feelings and passions, one which should be discussed in a thoroughly mature fashion and one which would be most useful for the forum to agree a definition in advance, so that the possibility of misunderstanding is minimised.

Just for ease of clarification this is for Conventional forces only, not WMD.

I voted for "deploying to the borders of rival nation" because the US is generally used as the basis for the description of Hyper of Globl Superpower, and it can and frequently does menace the borders of its rivals. I don't need to offer examples, do I? The US cannot, however really influence events inside of its rivals borders very well usually . Thus I have voted for the "borders" defintion.

I thought a Hyper power is higher then a Super power, and generally only occurs when there is no are no other Super powers to rival one Super power, hence that nation becomes a Hyper power, such as the United States today, there are no other Super power that exists so they just get bumped up to Hyper power.
