Jane's Defence Weekly reported on May 12, 2004 that the first of two modified Sovremenny-class destroyers being built for the PLAN by Russia was launched on April 27, 2004. The ships are being constructed at Severnaya Verf Shipyard is due to be handed over to the PLAN in late 2005. Both ships are of the Project 956EM design and include an aft AK-130 twin 130mm gun mounting, the Kashtan inner-layer defense system instead of the AK-630M. The 965EM will also carry an improved version of the Moskit missile.

You think so? Quess again...The ship whitout armament is one of the four of the old Jiangweis stripped whit the HQ-61 and the dual 100mm gun. There's no VLS at sight and there never will be. Those circles are just the holes where the previous weapons where...or did you think that those systems roled 360 degree all by them self? Don't try to sperad misinformation, there's enough it existing already about chinese military hardware.

apparently...tough it makes me wonder what armament is being fitted. HQ-7? but it propaply would need that extended seccond deck...So what it leaves to us? There's no VLS system in Chinese hands that could fit to Jiangweis so it pretty much rules that option out. Perhaps a rearagment for weopons? SSMs to the front like in Indian Khukri/Kora classes and the HQ-7 to the rear? Who knows...we propaply know it before the end of this year...

Well, you can still upgrade it to a lower level JiangWei 2, right?

As for the VLS, comm'on, we have no operational VLS in PLAN for such ships. The only thing I've seen is in PDF and I can't even get a single info from there.
Plus, isn't priority on the JiangKai(type 54), why would they put VLS at all in this ship? (It'll ruin the classical look, too :D )

ive seen one of the former onegreams pics of some kind of plan transport or test vessel fitted with a vls, so a refit like that isn't impossible for a jiangwei. the ships are most likely getting new radr, a hq-7a, and a dual stealthy turret.

well maybe you werent around in the old forum when we discussed about this, but it came rather relevant that there isent actual evidence supporting the argument that 052B has grizzly...but in other hand, theres lots of real pics showing comon sthill missiles in the launchers of those ships.

well, it's stated on huitong that SA-N-12 is used, but who really knows. They look the same. Although I do think that 052Bs will get HQ-16 once that comes out.

according to the missile defense sites I went to, it's an upgrade over Grizzly. Supposedly, it will have a range of 50KM. Which is pretty good for medium range SAM.

a variety of pics are confusing. according to your pic,homer, the 51c is only 50% complete. but another pic had shown 115 90% finished, with its number on. a later pic showed a 51c 80% finished, and was assumed to be 114, since its number was not on. but if this ship is 11, it must have been taken earlier than the other pic.

Yeah, I'm confused now. There are reports that HQ-16 is a super Tor-M1 and other reports that it is a super Shtil. I wonder which. From the range stated in the article, it sounds like the former.

I think HQ-16 is the Shtil. I don't see much point of fitting the Tor-M1. It and HQ-7 have similar performances and range.

I can't find anything on Globalsecurity though. The site's been totally changed. But if I remember right, it SAID that it was the Tor-M1, but I kinda have doubts about globalsecurity sometimes.

China got the license to produce Zubr for sure, it's in one of Kanwa's other articles. It's also somewhere on CDF. I'm too lazy to search for it now.
