hi
I'm Vince Lee
I'm a douchebag living in the States. I hate China and Communism, but don't have a shred of intelligence to force even a half-decent arguement.
If I offend you, let it be assumed that a heart felt apology always follows-Mea Culpa.
Yue, don't pretend to be someone you're not. one day, you're gonna get a warning for your wannabevince attitude. if you keep claiming that you're the real vince, then we will ban you just to make you happy

Wow too pages of discussion and introductions...and two actually made by NEW MEMBERs, to which this thread was orgianlly opened....man you all shoul go back to school and learn some reading-understandment things...;)

Im finnish (NOT an indian as someone somehow tought i were...) corporal in finnish reserve. Done my time in the karelian brigade in artillery regiment were i served as an aimer and occasionally as a gunleader for D-30 howitser and 155K98 cannon. Currently i'm studing to become a constructive engineer (or civil engineer...)
You all are going to know me, many of you wish that they never would have come agross whit me, but i can sure you, playing by the rules you never will have any proplems whit me (nor whit anyone else)...but if you don't...well then....:nono: :nono: :nono: :nono:

12-07-2005, 05:12 AM
HI!
I've been visiting sinodefence for a very long time, even before there was a forum at all :) I came across sinodefence when I was looking for some information about chinese fighters and I soon realised it's a very good place to look for facts, not rumours.
I'm 28 years old, I live at the beautiful city of Aachen in Germany, which is the most western city of Germany, with the Dutch and Belgian borders just within a five minute walk from my house.
I'm a mechanical engineer specialized in production technologies.
My main interests are domestic and global policy and strategics as well as military technology (that's why I'm here). I spend lots of time doing research and reading about these topics.
I love good discussions!
And there is nothing that I hate more than nationalism and people who say their country is best without knowing other cultures (probably because I'm german and we have some bad experience with that).
As you can see from my nickname, I'm very much into theatre and I like classical music very much.
Anyone who wants to write me, you're welcome!

I suppose it's about time I introduce myself. I have been participating on sinodefence for about half a year now, maybe longer?--at least a couple months before it switched over from ezboard. Like so many others, I first found sinodefence looking into the J-10.
My interests in general are current affairs, politics (none of that here, of course ;) ) and science. More specifically, I am obviously interested in China and have learned more on this forum that from all the articles i have read. So thanks to all those who participate and offer intelligent discussion. Besides that I am an aerospace fanatic and study aeronautical engineering. I was quite surprised to see another Aachener Ingeneur here. @ Falstaff, are you at the FH or TH? I am in my 7th semester at RWTH.
Look forward to many more discussions:)

Hi All,
guess i should introduce myself even though i been with SDF since the old forum days on ezboard, I just need to post more to get out of this "NEW MEMBER" status.
Well, I'm the Ordinary Dude
Chinese Canadian, electrical engineering undergrad at Uni of British Columbia, taking a year to explore meaning of life and better use this "dean's vacation". Lives in NY whenever not in school.
Been researching military hardware since the haydays of middleschool.
Not a hothead when it comes to county bashing since I'm a Chinese Canadian who lives in New York longterm, I had to defend all three countries at some point during my constant travels.
props to the mods for doing a good job keeping this forum professional

12-27-2005, 08:25 AM
Greetings all, I am curse. I have had an unusual attraction to chinese culture & military for about 2 years. I have also known about this website for awhile, just never got around to register an account here. I don't really understand whats going on with China and Taiwan, only the basics.
Taiwan broke off China and now China is going to get it back just like the British tried with the colonial americans?
Its weird though, living in southern part of America(rednecks). Everyone here gives China a bad reputation. Specially about the baby laws, that they kill the parents and the kid that went over the limit. Ahh well this is a military website not a baby protector website.
Anyways, glad to finally register an account and talk on an intelligent level with you people.

New here, been lurking for 6 months, after googling several different items, inlcuding PLAN and the Varyag, I kept coiming back here...
Me - a white, moderate American male, fortunate enough to have lived in Germany while in H.S., have visited "communist" countries while living in Germany (mid 80s), and have no love or respect for that style government. Is China Communist government the same? Don't know, but reading about it and talking to people that live there, I hope to find out, at least to learn more about the people...
Live - Rhode Island,USA (smallest state in the US)
Work - I'm the Network Manager for a 2500 student school district :nono: (I would be the guy watching where many of you surf when you should be listening to your teachers ;) )
Age - A bit more than double most of you 11th graders
Likes & hobbies - wargaming, fishing, webmaster of fairly large site (nothing reltated to this or china or military) that needs a place to be an annonymous member
Dislikes - chestbeating on the Internet :coffee:

As I dont visit every sub-forum here, so I didnt see this thread until now.
As my location says, I live in Norway, in the northern parts to be more specific.
So China is more or less on the opposite side of the globe from my point of view...
Now, you may ask yourself what I am doing at this forum then?
To be honest, I didnt have too much interesting in China, other than their politics towards Taiwan. My main interest is the former Soviet military forces.
Therefore, I first found this site/forum when I were searching for pics/info of the Sovremenny DDGs, and later when I downloaded the Pentagon Raport about China. I read through it, and from that day I have started "watching" China.
My "stats":
Age: 18
Experience: None first hand yet, but I will hopefully do my service from the autumn.
Hoping for Coast Guard service in the Barents Sea hunting Russians! ;)
But I do own alot of books about the Soviet/Russian forces, and read alot about it. So I guess I do have some knowledge.
Kiwi from New Zealand here. I am a student Chinese/International Relations.
Cheers.

but the process is a pain in the rear:(

now i am helping recording some demos for some blue guitarists, helping them to becomeing big (or know).
but today recording a blues album is like a suicide.:( (i don't think they will become big, people those day's music taste is so...:( )

I'm 21 years old and live in northern Sweden.
I quite my the mandatory military service for my country seven months ago as First Sergeant in the Air Force. Now I have my sights targeted at officer school in two years.

Hi, I'm FMC (or FuManChu). Decided to drop in after someone recommended SinoDefence. Well to be more accurate kept making references to it :)
Anyway, I hope to see you all around later on. If anyone's curious about my nick, it's a reference to the "China threat" that we hear so much about. Just like Fu, I regard it as something told to children to make them eat up their supper (or vote Republican).

MrClean
02-27-2006, 05:03 AM
Hello all, this is MrClean reporting for forum membership duty. I have been a common visiter of Sinodefence.com for quite awhile now, and have been a lurker of these forums for just about as long, and I figured it was about time to introduce myself.
Name: Aaron Lancaster
Age: 16
Location: Chandler, Arizona... more like in the middle of the damm desert.
Why I am here: Other than an all around interest in military technology/equipment, like others here I see China as an emerging World Economic/Military Superpower, IMO they have already surpassed Russia as the Worlds largest secondary Superpower, so therefore I would like to learn about the world's second strongest military machine. I am also here because that since China is the World's only other Superpower, I would like to know what others on this forum think about any possible future military conflict between our two countries. Even though that just gives me an excuse to get to know all you guys better!:D
Background: No military experience, but don't let that, or my age, fool you. I do know quite a bit about the U.S. military. My background consists mostly of school at the moment, but I have for the past 2 1/2 years painted houses, interior & exterior, both on the weekends and during the summer.
Well, that's the end of my little introduction and I look forward to having mature, knowledgable discussions with all of you.
P.S. If any of you were wondering, MrClean is a brand name of dishwashing soap here in the U.S. And I use it as a username because it is simple, it has nothing to do with my cleaning habits...

Hello everybody, I am an aeronautical & mechanical engineer.
Origin: UK
Ethnicity: Pakistani
I have always been interested in engineering which led me to military engineering, as this is where most off the 'new' technology is trialled.
I am an ex Royal Navy man. I served on HMS Monmouth and I was part off the team that trialed HMS Ocean at sea (i.e. check the ship at sea). I have worked with the Royal Marines extensively.
I am a member at PDF and I have been 'viewing' SDF for quite some time now and decided to join since alot off PDF members recomend SDF.
Anywayz, thats my intro and I hope to meet some new and friendly people.:D

Thank you all for welcoming me, as Popeye put it, there are many areas which I would like to discuss but alas I am barred and hence cannot.
However I have spoken to my ex-Commander and he will get back to me and advise me on what I can and cannot talk about.
Thank you Golevainen for contacting Dong Feng on my behalf, it is much apreciated.
P.S: Sumdud thank you also for welcoming me. You say you want to become a aeronautical engineer, have you thought about a combined degree which includes mechanical engineering aswell?
I am saying this out off experience, there is alot off stigma associated with being an aeronautical engineer, employers believe that you don't posses the skills to do mechanical tasks even though the subjects are practically identical, hence I chose to do aeronautical & mechanical majors in my degree.

And unlike most of americans that I know thinks, patriotism isent a virtue but a great disiase...disguised word for nationalism and expecially in this forum it's the number one reason for missconducts and hazzle. i dont know how to send private message(how do i send one?) but i cant understand what you mods are saying you shut down threads such as Turkey vs Greece:confused: saying that i dont get the picture?it will cause a flame war you say?strange indeed will you shut down the other vs threads dont because of me,but i really dont understand what your trying to say i thought this was an internatinal forum?but seems as opresive as the PRC goverment but by all means excercise your power:)

MIG 21, as a fresh member, you are not yet given the power to private message. you have to reach a certain amount of posts to get that power (don't remember how many). country vs country threads always start flame wars, that's from experience, so we close them pretty much as fast as they appear, if you see one, you can report it and you can be sure we'll close it when one of the mods get to it. this is because people can get very nationalistic when others are assulting their country. americans and chinese alike can get emotional when other insult their nation. this is an international forum because the internet is international, everyone is welcome to join except for those that are already banned from this forum or any of our other sister forums. but this is a forum dedicated to CHINESE military, with a side international military threads. if you want strictly international military forum, you are welcome to join Defence talk (one of our sister forums).
all mods and admins exercise our powers from experience and need of the forum, we also follow rules that's been established for the forum. if a rule is broken or we believe that there's a chance a rule will be broken in a thread, we'll exercise the power given to us. we don't allow any country bashing in this forum, so comments like "but seems as opresive as the PRC goverment but by all means excercise your power" you can keep to yourself. i don't think you have ever visited mainland china, so don't comment if you don't know.
If you ever decide to question a moderator or admin, be sure to remember this, you will get a warning for it, because we only exercise power when we think its neccessary, and when we do, you can be sure we have the entire support of the mod/admin team and that it the moderating is needed.
Read the rules and regulations before posting. (this is for all other new members too)

PiSigma's point was that moderators enforce the rules. They don't make them up, they just enforce them, so basically it's pointless to argue if your post is in violation of board policy.

潮州話 .
Oh! So that's wat it's called in English.
Err...... what does all the other pinyin mean? All I can figure is Chaozhou (潮州話) and Guangdong, the province.....
And thanks for that info. :)

Sorry, I joined the forum couple of weeks ago, and didn't realise that I have to introduce my self here until now.
I am living in a country called Australia, it lays between the south pacific and the Indian ocean.
I don't really understand the VIP rule, because I've seen many military enthuasists have far better knowledge on military matters than dumb soldiers who know very little about the world beyond their quaters.
But, after saying that, I am actually qualified to apply for VIP membership as I serve as an artillery signaller in the Australian Army reserve.

and to gain that status, e-mail to our webmaster and tell him about your service or make fifteen or so post and then you can send it via PM to him.

==Even though on arm chair, arm chair generals are still generals, they usually see the bigger picture, more perceptive to changes, and are often have a better understanding of ideas behind wars, so I would propose some sort of selection board, and any one can apply for VIP membership, and the selection board will review the posts made by the applicants and determine whether he/she is qualified for VIP memebership.

well armchair general means (in my mind) a normal civilians (in our cases mostly 14-17 year old kids) who knows lot of stuff, read from books and internet forums and thinks themselves as experts of military stuff when they actually have no clue about the 'real things'....if we would have real officers in here, it would be like christmass;) ;) Thats why we take all who have served as Vip members, as well as those who have 'real' experience from defence industry and like. So basicly the point is to get adults whit some sort of background to create community of mutual profesionalism to discuss over chinese military topics and by that make SDF a leading chinese military forum...thats the 'offical' goal of us

==I see, I was still thinking about the old Jian Chuan Zhi Shi (naval and merchant ships) forum, a forum founded by the JCZS magazine in 1997, before it was overran by Chinese extreme nationalists and Neo-Cons then taken over by sina and converted to a pHp style forum, it was filled with experts from different fields who either have spent years study the art and science of warfare or who are do not participate in defence R&D but have great understanding of the military implication of what they were working on, of course, JCZS forum is probably just a remenant of an era where only those who knows what they are talking about can access the internet, it is probably impossible to prevent a forum from being diluted with 14 to 17 year olds who think that they know everything, but, what can you do, almost everyone can access internet now.

Dong, I have long since retired from the USN.. but I can help to answer your questions until LT does.
The highest rank achived by a person of Chinese background I know was an Admrial in the USN. In fact a Arliegh Burke class DDG is named afer him.
http://www.chung-hoon.navy.mil/historyandinfo/admchunghoon/admchunghoon.html
Ethnic background should not be a factor in recruiting. Although the US military would like more "minorites" in the more technical and officer positions.
In the USN and US Army there are a goodly number of people of Asian desent. Not necessairly Chinese. In the now closed "Worlds Armed Forces pic thread" I posted numerous pics of Asians in the USN.

Ah yes. Admiral Chung-hoon. War hero. Great man. When I served, I knew a Chinese Lt. who served in submarines (LA Class SSN) named Ricky. I think he currently works in marine engineering on the civvy side. And there was a Chinese US Air Force General a number of years back who was a squadron commander in AETC. I can't recall his name though.

05-16-2006, 05:26 PM
New here. Permit me to introduce myself.
Me:
My name is Bob Hyneman. I am almost 40, a stay-at-home Dad trying to launch a small business (also form home).
I studied International Relations in college and became something of a China specialist before switching to economics.
Along the way I studied in Mainland China (Shanghai’s Fudan University) for 1 year and spent about three more in Taiwan, drinking beer and teaching English as a second language.
My wife is from Taiwan. I speak some Chinese, (I used to speak a lot of it). Her family and friends frequently stay here for months at a time, so most often English is the second language in my household.
We are both active in the Chinese and Taiwan Chinese community here on Long Island New York. Nearly all our friends are from Taiwan. Our closest friends are James Mau and his Family. James is a commander in the ROC navy who is currently finishing his PhD in Physical Oceanography at SUNY Stony Brook. His career path might lead in several directions, he ahs applied to be the next ROC Naval Attache to the “Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States” (aka “the embassy”).
I know less than most on this forum about the specific Chinese weapons systems but I am something of a China watcher.
MY view:
In college I was taught to view the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) as consisting four wings or factions.
They are
1.) The Maoists, currently the smallest and lest powerful wing (practically nobody in China believes in that CRAP anymore)
2.) The Economic Reformers
3.) The Democracy Advocates
4.) the Nationalists (and her the word nationalist applies in its worst, most pejorative fashion).
Prior to Tiananmen Zhao Ziyang ruled the country by keeping one foot in both the Economic Reform camp and the Democracy Advocate camp. Entrenched interests and a desire for social stability ensured that he proceeded with each type of reform slowly.
After Tiananmen the Democracy advocates were purged from positions of power, and the ruling coalition is comprised of the Economic Reformers (on top) and the Nationalists are the junior partner.
Today democracy advocates are sent to jail while rabid nationalists are given cabinet appointments.
More late on this as we get to know one another.
Obviously anyone who views things as I have described above would be quite concerned with the possibility that one day the nationalists might be the SENIOR partner in the ruing coalition. Given recent military trends in China it is clear their strength is growing and given China’s borderline social unrest it is not inconceivable that one day the Nationalists might seize power altogether.
I promise to be polite in my postings and not to pretend I know more about China’s weapons systems than I actually do (I know very little).
In exchange all I ask is that you humor me once in a while by responding to my theories and postings so that I can be sure I am not getting too far off the mark.
Thanks in advance.
I look forward to meeting you all.

Just to say hi...I'm Graham, a Brit, been working in Shanghai since late 2002...only recently found this site - excellent stuff !
My main interests are mainly historical - WW2 in China, especially around Shanghai ; activities of foreign forces in China pre WW2, etc ; less so modern stuff and older historical.
Been travelling a lot in China over last year or so both in Yangtze River Delta area and north of China, found one or two interesting historical sites (e.g the Unit 731 museum in Harbin and some old German defences in Qingdao). I will maybe post some pics later. Happy to chat/take queries about life in China on the site or by PM or offline.
Any other members here in Shanghai ????
Best wishes

Hi! Stepping in from DT to take a look around. I imagine everything is as professional as the home site. As for myself I'm in my late twenties, I have served in the USN for 7yrs and currently instruct Marines on advanced tactics in the F/A-18. Hope to meet some fellow defense professionals, any jet jockeys around?

Hey.
My real name is Jason Chang and I'm from US, California. I'm going to be 15 in about four weeks. I'm Chinese American and have lived in the US since I was born. I just registered in this forum so I can one day join in on these discussions. As for now I think I'm just going to standby and observe. I don't think I have the knowledge or experience to discuss in a military forum.
If you have any questions about computers, you're welcome to ask me.

Hi,
I am from S'pore (don't mind the short form), and had once served in the country's Army as a conscript for two and a half years before becoming a civies again.
Anyway, I get to be quite interested in the military during that time when I have kind of alot of time in the Army (as many of my brethen might have guessed, yes I am a pencil pusher).
Not really good at what is new and what is history in the military world of today, I am here basically as a newbie, trying to learn more from more professional such as the members in this forum.
Thanks and best regards.

Wow, Sinodefence is growing really fast. I remember when I joined I could basically name all the people who posted regularly, as I had read it for about a month before joining. That was only a few months ago.

Perhaps a formal introduction would be preferred. Male of chinese descent approaching the college years, from the State of California, United States. Been interested in foreign affairs and military manouvres for many years (I've been a fan of Admiral Yi and Charles DeGaulle. Both are masters of their relative domains while facing adversity from within their own governmnent). Quite an interesting site you have here (I've noticed this site for about a year now).
With regards to Utopia, my internet connections is far too slow for such a game (my computer was known to freeze just to connect onto the internet).

Hi all...
just joined today. I'm from Sydney but was born in Canton. I been to this forum a few times before in the past, abeit not frequently. My interests in really modern militaries as waned in recent years, I'm more into WW2 stuff nowadays, but I still update myself on China's fast-paced modernisation.
Yeah so just basically here to perhaps learn more from you guys about all those new Chinese hardware, and maybe meet some girls here as well...as I know there's usually tonnes of them in forums of this sort:D
