Hello,
As the nick name suggests I am interested, specifically in PLAN (I love the fact that it says Peoples liberation Army Navy).
I've met the PLAN CNO last year, granted that was odd (The only thing I can say in Chinese is "hello").
Academically I'm still a student yet not an Eng. major which seems to be popular for some of the members here.
Professional just another worker bee.
The Chinese are some interesting folk the "middle kingdom" has an inherent attitude which is carried through their everyday life's and military policy. I do blame one of my History Prof. for igniting the initial interest. Anyhow I'm looking forward to some good chat.
Cheers,

Hi,
As my nickname may suggest to the more well-versed, I'm Chinese and part of the diaspora. I'm interested in PLA in relation to its ability to help precipitate the establishment of the Chinese socioeconomic hegemony that is part of the Chinese destiny and as a result, I tend to consider psychological and political effects of military developments as much as their shift on the operational balance globally.
I'm currently a student of finance and economic theory and as a result, I also will generally apply economic understanding to analysis of trends and motivations. Inevitably, I also view China as an arbitrage opportunity in the world; both low risk and high return for supporting it in the future and it's part of my bloodline.
I strongly believe that the current view of China in the West is clouded first by those who apply inherently Western philosophy to a nation that has a different culture and methodology for power acquisition. The second mistake is the reactionary response by self-proclaimed "Sinophiles" who argue that China pursues no global hegemony and has no expansionist tendencies and that any view of that is due to a Western tint in our analysis. A civilization that gives its Emperor a mandate over "all under the sky" is not going to turn pacifist in a decade. For the curious, watch the subtitled version of Hero and you'll realize this exact issue. Finally, the third major issue is that people analyze situations and weapons in their own isolated state rather than in the context of a world of nations filled with people acting rationally in their self-interest.
Either way, I hope to add insights to the implications and analysis of Chinese military developments.

Hi, LT
Nice to have you here!
I have few questions that I wish to ask you:
Are there lots of Chinese serving in the U.S. military as officer or civil staff? Is their ethnic background an obstacle for joining the U.S. military? What is the highest rank/position a Chinese has ever made in the U.S. military?
Regards
Dongfeng
Maybe the question wasan't for me but I can answer u (forgive me if you dont want me to answer) Maybe im just an SPC (E4) in the U.S. Army but I see a lot of diferent etnic races working with us in fact one of the most high ranked U.S. Army Generals in our CoC was General Shinseki he is japanese etnically, In the U.S. Forces you advance in rank based on your skills, experience, colleges degrees, combat readyness, phisical fitness and leadership instead of etnically, I see some chinese guys in back in BCT and AIT and they have the same privileges. We also get exactly the same treat and respect in BCT (jejejeje we are all scum no mather where we come from scince back then we were just trainees) in AIT we get more privileges based on our performance I remember loosing my off poust pass cause my wall locker wasn't up to standards... very depresive day for me. Lastly back in Iraq
most of my unit member where puertoricans (including myself) and we din'd care of our battle buddy was green or blue as long they shoot to the same direction than us... Lastly in the U.S. forces no mather your etnically as long as they are U.S. legal citizen and pass the ASVAB and the subject is physically, mentally and between 17yrs old and 42yrs old. General Shinseki was a 4 star, besides he Was the Chief of Staff for the U.S. Army (1999 to 2003).
Hi, all. I think I haven't introduced myself before. I am a mainland Chinese student living in Auckland now. Major in business and economics. It will be interesting to see if there is a statistic to show the nationality and ethnic makeup of the members in this forum.

Hi all,
My name is Drukpa Kuenley, and I am from Bhutan.
I am a journalist and computer programmer by profession but also involved in social services organized by the UNDP. I graduated almost a year ago. In my spare time, I usually jam with my old buddies from High School. We like classic rock, rage against the machine, and sometimes the occasional alternative song as a result of one the members who is a girl thus... We also like to b-ball to keep the weight off but this is not happening.
I found this site through a Chinese friend of mine who told me to get my answers from this site instead of constantly bugging him.

Hi this is my first post on this forum, but as u can see I've been lurking for quite some time.
I thought it's about time I introduce myself.
Born in Xing Jiang, China, came to Australia when I was 3 years old. I am turning 26 this year.
I call myself an Australian but this does not mean I am not proud to be Chinese either. I have a fascinating desire to learn as much as possible about my country of origin, not just military wise but all aspects of the country. I have only been back to beijing once in 1999 and I didn't not like it one bit, I went with a tourist group and the whole trip felt very scripted. Also, Beijing isn't really the most fun of all places in China.
My profession is Graphic Designer and currently I am working for Coca-Cola, doing graphics.
No, before you ask, I do not Photoshop fake chinese warfare images!

Hello to everyone on this forum! I am a financial advisor here in the U.S. and I have a strong interest on Chinese military technology especially the J-10. All I know is that J-10 came from the Israeli Lavi concept in the early 90's but somehow Chinese made their own copy and recently making their own engine as well. So you insight on this would be very much appreciated!!!

Hello Sandyj and welcome aboard:china:
As for you and all other new members, here is an important annoucment.
Due our spamfilter, some post of members which have less than 15 post may not appear to you and you will recieve a message when posting it about moderators approval. It's a purely technigal issue, there are certain words that automatically trickers the filter. We know that it doesen't work smoothly as it blocks competely normal and valuable post as well but at the moment we just have to seddle for it.
We mods try to sweep all our threads and approve the post when we spot them but exspecially if you are posting in threads which are old and no other is posting on them, we might not spot them on time.
It's important that when/if you receive this message about moderators approval you don't go and post the same thing all over again when its not showing to you. We have had cases when guys post the same reply 15 times a row and thats not nice to anyone.
