Popeye, you do share the greatest pics, Old Salt.
EternalVigil....nice find on the new concept ship DDG1000. Yes, those are going to be incredible naval ships. The USAF doesn't get left out though. Look at those incredible F-22's & B-2's etc. etc. USAF gets.:D
And no, the arsenal ship concept is not being considered at the moment. The first image there is the DDX "Zumwalt". The second pic looks like the CGX concept, if I'm not mistaken.
Here's an overview pic of one of the ships I served on. DDG 56 USS John S. McCain..."Big Bad John".....

How many carriers has the Navy named Enterprise? I'm pretty sure that it is just two, this one and the one from WWII. It would be cool if the navy always had an Enterprise carrier. It would be like the Royal Navy, they name several ships the same name. That way, even on a new ship, the crew would always have battle history to look back on. The memory of old victories, as well as old defeats, motivates men.

The USN will more than likely name either CVN-78 or 79 Enterprise. This because the Enterprise is scheduled to be decomissioned in 2013 just in time to name the new class of CVN Enterprise......

I'm closing this thread because it simply takes too long for this page to load. I have DSL and this page takes about 3 minutes to load. That is because stupid me directly linked the pics from the US DoD sites...:o
I will open a new US military pic thread. Please use image shack to reduce the size of your pics. Or upload them from your hard drive.
