This is just the rambling of a person who still lives in the cold war era. China doesn't even name subs after natural events.
Its true that China operate the port at Long Beach, but maybe the US congress should check to see how many US ports are operated by foreign nations, you can't just cherry pick the nations you want to kickout.

This is crap. It would fit in the off topip room much better. These articles are 100% spurious. I cant believe they expect people to belive this stuff.

Who the hell calls China the "Red Chinese" anymore? At least one of the morons on Abovetopsecret had the sense to call it what it was : FEAR MONGERING

Some people just like to post anything in the hope ignorant people will believe it...the PRC company COSCO operates at the old Long Beach CA US Naval Base to import goods from the PRC. They've been there for years.
Those are just postings of a neocon..
Here's two links about COSCO.

I feel sorry for the Middle Kingdom (the person on ATS), he kinda got fed up with all the fear mongering. Now he can't help but go back.

Strange that China would name a class of submarines after a Japanese word. Seems like whoever made it up just picked the first Asian sounding word that came to his mind.

Ok so it's BS? Yeah i was kinda wondering myself why China would build subs right under the US's nose, that didn't make sense

The article may technically be true. Its simply that the author has seemed to immediately link the word "submarine" with either the words "Boomer" or "Hunter Killer".
It is not unusual to find mini subs or remotes in commercial docks, they are used for maintenance and or research. Ask BD Popeye I am sure he has seen plenty of one sort or another over the years.
What is it though with these guys:confused: you get the the impression that theya re the kind that empty an entire Uzi clip into the undergrowth, every time they hear a mouse.:(

One thing that is helpful about this article is that it shows American atitudes towards China on its own its not credible but go and look at the other articles on the web, in the media etc China is painted as a threat
However not by all Americans.
Thus this will be useful for a historian or any other researcher about attitudes to chinese.
:off I just googled China threat i got over 61.000.000 m links and also typed in muslim and islamic threat each got 20,000,000. But this is not scientific.
BUT i bet the muslim threat links are more inflammatory
P.S Also remember Panama Canal controversy????

Um, China cannot "buy" a US port. Chinese companies, however, can lease port facilities in the US.
I still go fishing at Long Beach every so often. The area around Pier J is very polluted and I do not recommend eating anything from those waters (throw the fish back).

Yuck:( ..Those fish there are some sort of muntants probally...after years of breeding in that nasty water.
I know that the Chinese workers for COSCO at Long Beach have to remain there. I guess they live in the old barracks...I do know they get to go on tours. I have seen them frequently at the tourist attractions in San Diego. They are always escorted by some "Offical looking" English speaking escorts. Plus they are always in the 11 casinos in San Diego county. I can't imangine thay make much more money that their counterparts in the PRC. Does anyone know? Are they granted speical priviledges?
Anyway the bottom line is that if the PLAN wanted to port a sub in Long Beach they would have to go through the US government even if they do own the old Long Beach base....
