The World Baseball Classic has started and China has suffered two embarrasing losses. 18-2 against Japan and 9-1 against Korea. Last game will be against Chinese Taipei or Taiwan. This should be a slaughter. In other news, Taiwan lost to Japan 14-3 following a 2-0 loss to Korea. It looks like Korea and Japan will advance to the second round. Coming up tonight really late on the East coast is Taiwan vs. China at 2 a.m., followed by Japan vs. Korea at 4 a.m. Here's some news about all this stuff.

TOKYO -- Korea beat China 10-1 in the World Baseball Classic on Saturday, closing in on a trip to the second round of the 16-nation tournament.

Seung Yeop Lee homered twice, drove in five runs and finished with four hits for Korea, which improved to 2-0 in the inaugural WBC. Korea shut out Chinese Taipei 2-0 on Friday behind pitchers Jae-Weong Seo of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chan Ho Park of the San Diego Padres.

A victory by Japan over Chinese Taipei later Saturday would send Korea -- and Japan -- to the next round in Anaheim, Calif., from March 12-16.

Lee hit a two-run homer off China starter Chen Kun in the third inning and added a solo shot in the eighth at Tokyo Dome. Lee also drove in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly and made it 6-0 with an RBI single in the sixth.

Lee, who holds the Asian record of 56 homers in a season, signed with the Yomiuri Giants in Japan after spending two seasons with the Chiba Lotte Marines of Japan's Pacific League.

The Giants play their home games at Tokyo Dome and are expecting big things from Lee this season.

Korea starter Min Han Son earned the win, giving up one hit and striking out three in four scoreless innings.

China (0-2), which will not advance, got on the scoreboard with a homer by outfielder Yang Shuo in the top of the eighth.

Attendance for the game, which started at 11 a.m. local time, was 3,925.

All Group A games are being played in Japan. The top two teams advance to the second round to play the top two teams from Group B, which includes the United States, Canada, Mexico and South Africa.

Japan defeated China 18-2 on Friday.

i don't even know china have a baseball team... who even watch baseball in china??? it's such a boring sport. i don't even consider it a real sport. china should remove this from the 2008 olympics.. kinda pointless to have it, and just add in kung fu. i'm not suprised japan is good, they have their own league don't they?

Very true! But baseball has the marketing ability in the future and they want to compete with the Asian giants, also known as Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. But Japan has their own league and it's supposedly comparable to the MLB.

This is pretty sad, considering Taiwan used to pride itself in having a decent professional baseball team. =/ They won the bronze in 1984 Olympics and silver in 1992 Barcelona Olympics, plus 1 silver (1984) and 3 bronze (1986, 1988, 2001) in World Cup Baseball.

Um, I don't think China gets to decide what sports are competed in for the Olympics. I think thats the job of the International Olympic Commitee.

Hey, at least China could participate in the winter olympics. I was an avid hockey player when I was a kid, but when I went to Taiwan... it's all over~

How embarassing must it have been for the Chinese to loose to the hated Japanese! And they would be totally humilitated if they lost to Taiwan! I can see the headline now...

10 years and China should be able to beat them. I'm really not surprised anyway. Even though Japan and Taiwan are there enemies, this is their first time playing!

it'll be a brutal slaughter for the taiwanese if the entire PLA is up against the their baseball team... no need to care about aiming when you have that many people batting at once (doubt they have that many baseballs tho...)

i watched a women softball game in china during the athen olympics and the commentary was doing his best to explain the game, poor him:( , because apparently, no one sitting next to me (my grandparents, my cousin, and my old friends) understood a word he said. all they knew was that china lost.

Baseball is huge in Central and parts of South America. It's also really big in Japan and Korea. It's growing in a few European countries too.

Baseball is big in pretty much the entire Latin America. I can find more people from the Central than from South, like Sammy Sosa.
Baseball is big in the ROs too.

But the PRC may be Asian like the ROs, but it's not one of the ROs.
