I like northern Chinese & Korean food. Thick noodles (like udon), sometimes served dry with spicy meat sauce. Steamed buns, dumplings, beef noodle, etc. Korean mix rice (bibimbap) is also good.

For Japanese food I like good sashimi, which is hard to get. Besides the usual salmon and tuna, I like spanish/horse mackerel (aji) raw or cooked.

Due to large Mexican population here in Cali we also have a lot of Tex-Mex cuisine, which is pretty good.

Pho (Vietnamese), Burritos and nachos, Northern Asian cuisine (Kind of gotten bored of Southern cuisine after eating it for 17 straight years. :) Plus, I LOVE noodles and dumplings.) Indian foods. (Spices are always a plus for me.)

smaller with more legs??? hmmm... i wonder... WTH would that be? i demand an answer from those anti-mcdonald people.

i like spicy (or heavily flavored) food, so chinese food from SiChuan, GuiZhou, etc., indian food, mexican food.

also i don't particularly hate fast food.

btw, my grandma used to tell me it's called fastfood so i have to eat fast, or else the owner of the restaurant is gonna go after me >_< (she's just making it up because i used to eat slow, lol)

There's a fast food chain here called "Chick-Fil-A", their nuggets are made from breast meat only. Also, as of Nov 2003, McDonalds Chicken McNuggets switched to all white meat (chicken breast) too.

Those who are used to the old chicken McNuggets, which was a mix of white and dark/fatty meat, prefer the old McNuggets because they taste better. The newer ones are kinda dry and don't taste as good, but healthier.

Back in 1984, we had this freak shooting in San Siego where some guy walked into a McDonalds with a semi-auto Uzi (they were still legal to own back then) and fired 257 rounds, killing 21 and wounding 19. He was shot and killed by SWAT team, and later his wife sued McDonalds claiming that her husband went crazy because he ate too many Chicken McNuggets.

That didn't stop me from eating McNuggets. =p

You young people are lyin' when you say you hate fast food. The only reason you say that is because most fast food is American and oh my goodness you can't like anything American.

As for Big Daddy I like Japanese food. Chinese food and Mexican food. Hell I like most any kinda food. That's why I'm Big Daddy Popeye!..Trouble is here in Cedar Rapids IA, a cutural wasteland, there aren't very many good ethnic resturants. Not even Mexican. Hell's bell's these people think Taco Bell is Mexican food.

Good resturants....aaahhhh That's the one thing I miss about San Diego.

Oh yeah..I've been eating Sushi since 1973 an it did not kill me ..yet!!!

Hi popeye

I doubt eating sushi can kill anyone, but fish do tend to be easiler to get people sick. Trust me I speak from experience, I was a sushi helper and chief for awhile, nobody got sick from eating sushi I made:D . But I don't like fish, so I don't eat much sushi eventhrough I made them.

Fish contains more mercury and other harmful chemicals than beef and pork... why? Because the are in our toxic sea! So technically speaking you can get sick if you eat fish everyday...
I rather go for medium rare steak!

Oh yeah, how can I forget? I love Mac n Cheese.
In fact, I love nearly everything with cheese.
And ironically, my name is said as cheese w/o the "s" sound.....

Once in a while, my dad bring me to this sushi place where the sushi is cheap. (Guess who operates the place? I am not going to say anything...... >.> ) But either, if you are scared of raw fish, there is a reason why sushi is served with wasabi. (And in real sushi shops, the wasabi is hidden inside the sushi itself.) For the same reason, you will find (and I recommend that you use!) lemon juice on half shell oysters. Garlic should also help too.(And I use it a lot, just to take down that cholestrol. It works, right?)

my reason for hating fast food have it being american or chinese... they are equally bad. i obviously have no problem with eating anything unhealthy, considering all i eat is mac n cheese and chef boyardy. the reason i don't like it is because they are expensive and not very filling. Wendy's cost like 7 dollars per meal (1 burger + 1 side + 1 drink), and i'll be hungry in 3 hours. so it's not really worth the money. i can get better food at the school cafeteria, which is not saying much, since UofA's cafeteria is a monopoly ran by the evil Aramark company.

don't get me started on Panda Express. Not my favorite place.

I actually don't dislike most American fast food.....except Taco Bell, which is disgusting. Oh, and Domino's and Pizza Huts. I just want a good salad and some meat.

Gollevainen
03-03-2006, 05:05 AM
I'm also not so keen fan of Macdonalds and all this big chain fastfood companyes...the food in those are dry and unimaginamble tasting...

...but that doesen't mean i dislike fast food, not at all. My Aunt and his husband keeps a small fastfood restaurange, tough we don't call them restauranges, more like Grills or Kiosk...anyway, the fastfood in there is amaizing, all the hamburgers and meatpies, bourgers (i don't know the exact englihs word, a hamburger with sausage in place of the meat) Frenchfries and all...mmhm....tough you can get bored to everything, like in last summer, everyday from work we went to eat there as it was quite near the building site....but eagerly waiting next summer as we build another house on the same area :D

xihaoli

I must agree with popeye, the majority of American teens who say that they hate fast food are often simply relaying the thoughts of their parents and teachers. In reality they probrably go there on a weekly basis.

Hell, I've worked for 5 hours in a grease filled kitchen, seen how the stuff is made (A frozen big mac meal is like the size of your mouse....coke and all), and was still chugging them down during my lunch break.

On and off for 2 month....wat a summer....

Meat patty = 3 by 3 cm square
Large coke = 10c of syrup, my supervisor told me
any vegetable = sliced diced and frozen for a few month....
fries = do i even need to say it?

The conditions are usually better at your mom and pop restaurants, where they actually have a "skilled" chef to cook your hamburgers. The difference is astounding.

Is that bread..... the fried Russian bread? Correct me if I am wrong though. But yeah, you can find that kind of bread in here. As for the sausage-bread, I'd think it's still regarded as a hamburger in here.

Kiosk? That word sounds familiar....... What commercial product in here was named that again?

I actually like Taco Bell......Then again, I like Latino food......
But I'll take Popeyes over KFC anyday. ;) KFC's chicken is too salty and toooooooooooooooooo fat. (But HK's Hardee's is probably the oilesy chicken. Hong Kong members, you know what I mean right? I might have gotten the wrong spelling.)

But Fast food Fried Rice? :x Oh, hail' no!
Fried rice in fast food store is never right! They taste like raw rice cooked in a pan w/ a cup of oil. It doesn't have texture or taste! More like Tasteless seeds w/ oil....... I am sure Panda Express will help you understand what I mean. (Real fried rice are made from steamed rice, not raw rice......)
Chow Mein/Fried noodle is better in some places, but some stores dump whatever vegetable they can find into the noodles and that aren't very nice either..........

But School meal..... I am sure you guys have better school lunch than me......
In our beanery line (Don't know why it's called that, but that's where you buy better food if you didn't qualify for free meals. The materials for chow mein and fried rice are from left over meat and stuff. The rice is raw, and you can still see like 2 tsp of oil at the bottom.) The hot meal line is worst..........Food is just slapped into instant containers that will stick 2 da food after being heated. Whether or not the food is healthy (oil and salt) or arranged properly (like the corners of a pizza sticking out.) is not their business....

vincelee

Panda Express, like MOST places, do use steamed rice to make fried rice. I would know, I........had the pleasure of working at one during the summer of my freshman year. Interesting thing is, all the chefs at P.E are Mexicans.

Love the following:

1. Pizza - Pizzeria Uno's (Cupertino, CA)
2. Chinese - Mandarin Gourmet (SF Bay Area, CA)
3. Indian - Bombay Oven (Cupertino, CA)
4. Steaks - Tahoe Joe's or Cattleman's (Sacramento, CA)
5. Burgers - Fuddruckers (All over the USA)
6. Japanese - Asahi Sushi (El Dorado Hills, CA)
7. Vietnamese (Pho Nam, Sunnyvale, CA)
8. Southern (Uncle Bud's Catfish, Knoxville, TN)
9. Mexican - Chevy's (Justaboutanywhere, USA)

I like it all. From Curry, to Enchiladas, to Burgers, to Roast Duck in Plum Sauce, to Sushi, to Kung Pao. I ain't picky.

Hey Sumdud, if you live in the Bay Area, have you ever heard of Mr. Chau's Chinese Food? Similar to Panda Express...only better. I used to chow down there all the time when I lived there myself (San Jose).

Swdish meatballs? Saw it before (at Ikea), but donno what's so special about it (no offense.) Special spices?
But I finally got the taste of Kristall there after living for 12 years without it.

Mr. Chau's Chinese food? Nope, haven't found it yet. But I do like what they serve in Ranch 99 though........

Pho..... I like Pho Hoa. (But then again, there are many of them, not in a chain, named Pho Hoa. And even if you are naming just chains, there are two Pho Hoa......) There are some store up in Chinatown that are kind of good too.

Haven't been to any Indian Restaurants in SF bay yet, except for a fast food store. There are some in Downtown and many in and around the South Bay though.

When I am having a burrito, I am usually buying it from some independent Taqueria. So nope, never been inside Chevy's or Cielia's.

I live in San Francisco, and since my parents hate San Jose's dry weather, we rarely go there. (In my 7 years here, I've only been to Little Saigon(I think that's what they call the district.), a Casino, a mall, and a fleamarket there.)

But the case about Chinese food in SF is true.
Yea, lots of Chinese restaurants here are operated by either people who are from China but can't cook, or people who can cook but they know Chinese (cooking) or just some cheap people who wants to get rid of oil. In either case, you end up with half-Chinese foods or (like in Chinatown) too freakin much quantity with too little quality. Seeing celery in chow mein outside Chinatown is commonplace, and in all scenarios, with lots of oil.

I can point you to some real Chinese food in San Jose and Millbrae though. But they do cost you.

If you want to check the estimated mercury levels in seafood, see here:
http://gotmercury.org/

Keep in mind that these are US-FDA released stats and may not reflect your local area.

Generally speaking, bottom-dwelling or bottom-feeding fish like Habibut and White Croakers have higher Mercury/PCB levels.

As for pho, the best ones are almost always home cooked. The taste is heavily dependent on the soup, which takes all day to cook (the old way).

Actually eating raw fish is not that bad if you have wasabi with it, because wasabi has been proven to kill bacteria; only think you should be scared of is where they get the fish (mercury levels) and if it's fugu (the chef that's making it)
