Well the Winter Olympics is one of those oddities, because relatively few nations can compete. But there is a chance we will get some medals, a real achievements given that we have very little all-year-round snow in the UK!

I'm dissappointed Popeye. You don't watch Olympics or American Idol. lol, jk..

Anyhow, good to see Canada getting on the gold medal sheet this early. Last time, we were shut out until Catriona Lemay Doan won her event. I see better than a 6 gold performance from Canada this time.

Well, Canada is sure to have the Women Ice Hockey Gold, the Men's Ice Hockey contest will be good, but I think that Canada will win since we have so much talent home....

BTW, Canada beat Italy 16-0 in Women Hockey today, both Foward Hayley Wickenheiser (no22) and defensewomen Caroline Ouellette (no13) got a hat trick and 2 assist... Canada is dominating, shooting 66 times on goals while Italy only have 5 shots...

In ice-hockey, we surely comes from challenging part, Most of our NHL stars are either injured or unable to participate by their teams...NHL should honour the olympics and World championship games far better so the best players could participate...

But today, everybody remembers to watch the Normal size ski jumping contest...One of the three most waited events here in finland...

What do you mean by unable to participate by their team ?? Normally, there's a olympic break during which the NHL havn't schedule any match... That's why Team Canada and Team USA are only composed NHL players... Seriously, not to bash on you but Finland don't have some big star... Most of the Finish good player are injured like Joni Pitkanen (D), Mika Kiprusoff (G) and Sami Kapanen (F)

Well, Team Canada have suffer of some departure and injury, top defensemen Scott Niedermeyer and Ed Jovanoski are unable to play, superstar and leader Mario Lemieux have annouced that he didn't want to participate in the Olympic (he was the Team Captain back in 2002) and leader Steve Yzerman didn't wanted to participated either...

Well.. We Swedes are as always sending 200 athletes that will completely fail to win any gold and we will all cheer when we finally at the end the olympics return with just a bronze in ladies Ice-boccia.

The NHL star filled ice-hockey team is destined to make the same worthless result as when they lost agains Belarus last time. My guess is that these NHL stars is a buch of primadonnas that just is not teamplayers at all. Its not enough with having talents in a team, they have to be able to play as a team!

So now i sit at the TV and watch the olympics just to make sure to cheer every time Norway doesent get a medal :)

Thanks for correcting me, But they sure dont take that brake during the world championship games...and those are considerably bigger ice-hockey event in here, than the olympic turnament...And mostly we dont like that those 'stars' claim that they are injured and cannot participate in olympics, but still have played in their local teams, as they werent injured at all..

But still, we havent got in any case a winningteam here, but we see...

One thing I noticed about hockey is that it is a pretty diverse sport, which makes the Olympics interesting to watch since no one team has ALL the talent making it a pointless affair. You have players from Russia, Sweden, Finland, Slovakia, Germany, USA, Canada, etc as opposed to Basketball (for instance) in which nearly all the players are American...

I don't know who to root for (hockey) because I have so many favorite players on different teams...

I was surprised to learn that the World Championship is a bigger deal than the Olympics, though... but then again expecting the NHL to take time off every year to let players play in other tournaments would be unrealistic...

hockey is such an canadian sport.. we have problems picking players for Team Canada not because we don't have enough good players like most other countries.. but because we have too many good players, and can't decide who should be on the team.

I don't even understand why such sports are in the games. (not counting men's version, just the women's version) If you add dumb sports like curling to it, it's pretty much in the game just for adding to canada's gold medal count. You might as well add shopping to the olympics, if they are so desperate to find events. They should eliminate it just like they are going to eliminate baseball from the olympics.

Because it's cold a lot of the time? You're not going to see country from a tropical climate participating in the Winter Olympics often...

anyone watched the pair figure skating? china got silver and bronze. and the silver pair had some bad accidents. Zhang Dan fell during a 4-turn spin (first ever done in an international competition), and it was pretty serious. the judges gave the pair a 2 minute break and resumed their programme. what's surprising is that they ended in silver... of course, the credit goes to the new judging system. but still, it's amazing, completing their programme after she broke her knee (or something like that).

i saw the skating. how good was that, two medals with russia taking the gold. i wish i could even do one turn in the air considering i have trouble even skating. Zhang Dan injured the knee not broken, i don't think it would be possible to countiue (the pain), she injured it for she got ice on the knee and got the leg stapped with bandages afterward.

I'm no hockey fan. and I don't like the Olympics. I just don't. The NHL players are out of their element playing this sissified form of ice hockey. I saw a few minutes of a game this morning. No hitting. Board crashing checking. (I'm not talking about fighting.. that sucks) What kinda hockey is that? Sissified that's what. I say that the NHL should pull it's players from the Olympics from now on.

I would watch a team of NHL all stars play some European players with NHL rules. In stead of the sissified international rules. That would be intresting.

Tanks for the compliments....This is first time since late 90's when our hockey team (nicknamed Leijonat=lions in here) really kicks in. The most amaizing part of it is that old farts like Teemu Selänne and Saku Koivu are in hyperspeed....perhaps they know that these gonna be their last olympics and so they give the best that they got....

I know, Before these games there was big fuzz over our goalie situation and bit worry wheter Niittymäki can play in such hars conditions...bit i must say he is truly amaizing...real Lion....

anybody see dat hit ruutu gave jagr???...shizaamm!!!!

From all our players, it wasen't any suprise that Jarkko Ruuttu can pull something like that, but thats the main reason why he is onboard, to hasszle the opponent and forcing them to take penalties. That Jaeger incidence was just unfortuned accident, not deliparet however....

Well a medal....but still not gold...damn those Austrian Dop...uhm..örhm...skijumpers. Those judges were extremely biased, they gave Morgi way too high points althoug he practically fall his jump... :nono:

Our gold hunt is going to get very difficoult. There are only three posspile event (in my obinion) were these can be, Curling, tomorrows Sprint in Nord. Comp. and womes sprint skiing. Althoug our hockeyteam has showed some spectacular moves, i still doupt wheter they gonna end up in the final, i mean Slovakia and Russia are frieghtingly good and Sweden is always a tough bite to us finns no matter how badly they have played...

No one can tell you what to do, or should do, it is really up to you to decide. I knew some chinese who are born in US but choose to root for china, and some chinese born in china but come here few years and decide to root for America. It really have to do with what you comfortable with. If you can't decide now, My suggestion will be root for all of them, and if they play each other. Just dont take side, and keep your month shut:D . Don't worry, when you get older you could solve your identity problem. For the time being, let have fun and be wise:) .:china:

Just encourage the athlete or athletes that you consider to be the best. You don't have to back just one country. During Athens 2004 I rooted for the Chinese female diver (forgotten her name) and I don't have a drop of Chinese blood in me!

To be honest, and this is just my view, if I never lived in my "country of ethnic origin" then I would give either my current home or birth-country preference, if there was competition. As I said it's up to you, but I personally would have primary allegiance to the place where I was born/raised.

ANTERO NIITTYMÄKI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

huh, what a game....and it followed quite familiar pattern. First we make goals but then (this time completly unfair) penaltyes mess ups our games and the opponent strikes back....we managed to keep our lead but then the last five minutes is just pure nightmare, USA makes their third goal and we are getting beaten up. If it had been Sweden, we would have lost but our goalie Antero niittymäki keeps up his phenomenal savings...so we WON!!!!!! 4-3 and here we go to the medalgames....:nana:

There is indeed such thoughts. Its just strange to see a team full of NHL professionals play some kind of laid back hockey agains Slovakia and then the next day kick Swiss butt with a aggressive and contructive game. The reason for this is of course up for speculation, but it really feels like someone did want to avoid Canada. Sad indeed as its not the victory that is to be important, but to compete in a noble way... But i guess thats as obselete as not having sponsored games. Why does every dress in this olympics have a Nike brand on them? Why do they always remove one ski in slalom to show the logo of the manufacturer?...

Maby we will have Sweden against Finland in the finals!.. And then my bet is on Finland, because your team is like Canadas ladies! Unstoppable :)
