nowadays, military is a very hot topic for the chinese internets users, mostly youth.
in past few years,great number of chinese military fourms and communities have been set up by the military fans of china.
after years of expansion, those fourms became really huge! some leading miitary fourms, such as 'tiexue'(iron blood), dingshen dynasty...even have more than half million register users!
but, recently, those websites starting to get attentions form both chinese government and foreign intelligence for sercurity reasons...
some of the fans on those fourms seems get over-excited about the chinese military buildup. their curiosity about PLA lead them to a worng path. cause by their lack sense of national scercurity, they trying to dig up every bit of information they can find about PLA, and put them on internet!photos, documents, rumors, even conversations with their relatives who serve in PLA.
what they don't know is, their enthusiastic works is closely and quitely watched by forgein agents.
only few works ago, a military fan posted a pic of a PLAAF air-base in guangdong, where F-16 models were build for PLAAF's bombing practice. only few days later, that pic appeared all over taiwan's media, as a evident of PLA's military threat! this was just one example, the similar incident happening repeatly those days.
since PLA rise the level of security after 'serveal incidents' in the army, it became harder for other country's agents to gather information of PLA. but now ,the internet saftey has become a new issue for chinese national sercurity department. the situation has also caught the attentions of chinese internet police, last year, serveal military fourm were shut down by the government...
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
ok, personally,i believe, unlike politics, the censorship on military information is of course 'legitimate'. but is it possible for the chinese govenment to watch millions of internet users and keep them in line?and how much damage it(classified inforamtions leaking form internet) will do to PLA?
i heard that some posters were invited to police or security department for 'tea', i have no idea if it's ture or just rumors.
acutally, there are many 'valuable' stuff on this site! few days ago, in chinese military community, 'rumors' said that''the japanese intelligence was never aware new Y-8Ew/ELINT's existence until they saw the photo on sino-defence.com'' !

Censorship makes a lot of sense here. The state security apparatus should monitor them to make sure no classified information is revealed. But at the same time, forums can be a good source of novel ideas even for professionals.

For any military i be worried about the speculation regarding the capibilities of this and other military hardware.
What relistically can governments do to counter this problem?

If that is the case, then Japanese intelilgence is incompetant. I always have some question on the competence of the Japanese military after they allowed that Ming sub to closely shadow their exercises without being detected, or for that matter, decades ago, how Victor Belenko and his defecting MiG-25 managed to get through all the JASDF defenses and radar screens and managed to suddenly land on a Japanese airport.
It also looks like US intel never caught the Yuan too, until the first photos showed up. By then, China is already preparing to bring the Yuan out of secrecy as the sub moved to populated areas where even better pics are shot.
I think one of the most stinging shots was the picture of the Boeing 737 that appeared being converted into a command post. I thought the picture originated from a defense expo, or it appeared to me it was shot from an airport runaway. The US lodged an official complaint after this, since export stipulations forbid the use of US originated equipment for military uses and I think the CCP goverment wasn't very happy as a result. The US neocon media such as Newsmax and China threat watchers like Bill Goertz had a field day from this.
By the way, the Y-8 balance beam and other Y-8 variants also appeared in CCTV. I guess that balance beam project has been declassified.

China should rather strengthen its control on sensitive Military info. At least foreign agents are not fools to have forums as their source , they have many agents and devices for this purpose !!!

一、 良好的雷达试验环境:试验机平台内部空间大,不仅可满足各种不同雷达的改装要求,同时也可加装大量的试验支 持设施以满足不同雷达的使用要求,具有较好的通用性;
二、完善的测试条件:机载雷达通常需经过调整试飞,待性能稳定后方可开始定型试飞。由于现代雷达技术的 复杂性,使得调整试飞的难度和周期大大增加。而试验机由于得天独厚的条件,可以加装大量的专用测试设备,同 时试飞工程师可直接上机参与调试工作,这些都为雷达调整提供了优越条件;
sorry i do not have time to translate the whole text, but basically, it proved the rumor that japanese inteligence discover the y-8ew by logon sino-defence.com...haha, and it also point out that the photos was declassified and actually released on chinese offical website-[http://www.people.com.cn/] before, with introductions!
see, even their internet skill sucks!

I would guess it is a language thing. I wonder if Sinodefence opened a Chinese Language forum you would see more of these guys (I am sure that our Moderators of Chinese Origin would be only too happy to translate their postings for the rest of us).

Now that's an idea. That would be great. Just as long as the text could be translated to English or Finnish, ..ya' know what I mean...
As for the PRC cracking down on PRC military forums..Well they are just trying to protect the more sensitive information.

:rofl:
But seriously, wouldn't it be bit difficoult if you first send your replyes to someone who then translates it and only after then it's posted in here? Mean imagine doing so when you get along interesting and fast moving discussion...
Now there are lots of knowlidgable (about PLA) guys able to post in english, but still avoiding this particular forum...(i don't mean any pseudoprofessionals who talk bigs but eventually yhave nothing to back them up) We had have few of those here unfortunetly.

I just want some posters from the PRC to post their opinions in Chinese. Someone can translate it so i can read it. That's all. But..if everyone just posted in English that would be fine. But limiting the posting to English would probaly scare off some Chinese posters....
I would love to read some opinions of the someone that actually lives in the PRC..with no censorship of course.
