China has a lot of old tanks. And the PLA decided to improve on what I think is the wrong tank. (I think it's better to upgrade the type 79 then on the type 59s) But either way, the upgrade is temporay, just here until we get enough type 96s. So it is in a way a good thing the type 59 wasn't upgraded into something the level of the Al-Zarrar. But what do you think?

And any news on China's next generation IFV?

I think hes talking about the iraqis using type 59s/t-54s.
The t-59 barrel only handles 100 rounds anyways, forget the hull.

China has about 2000 96's and 99s. 96 production should end in around 1-2 years, replaced entirely by the 99.

No way, you got to be kidding.

The type 96 just came out not long ago, it's not going away for at least another decade.

If any thing has to go, it is the used 59s and all 69s.

I heard a report somewhere that the 96 production would continue up to 3 years(from 2005), and another claim it would go up to 2010. If production does continue that long, we better see some upgrades, such as the fitting of era(the 96 has inadequate armor), and perhaps a battle management system.
