The military propaganda video was ok, but the Bush videos? I am dying watching it. :rollin:
I was hoping the "no escape strategy" was #1.....
But #3, left hand rite hand......those things were already worth it.
I couldn't say that Korea looks better than expected. Pyongyang is afterall the city that is given the most care. At least the place has trees.
But dang, everyone was brought out to the street.
The motorcycle escort is great. (China has decided to eliminate them, guess it's due to the enforcing of the law to eliminate motorcycles?)
And the tour, it's like a escorted bomber mission going thru waypoints, peaceful of course.

those clips were awesome.
the NK sure did a lot of preparations for the visit. presedent bush's one was hilaerous. the chinese one was awesome. it was a very good video and just goes to show how good propaganda works. the high level of drill that the chinese soldiers did was amazing. they must of practised had for the rifle drill imaculate.

from what i've heard, people working at the conference lead bush to the other door after he tried to get out from the locked door, and i have a feeling that they paused the clip after bush disappeared behind the board thing. but it's hilarious.
they must have everyone in the city on the street to welcome Hu. wonder if they get to keep those waving thingys.

No, he's referring to the one that swimmerxc posted at 0745 with the name "PLA footage." That is clearly the pre-mondernization PLA because the equipment looks so 60's / 70's.

Well, Kim's demand is to shoot through the HEART........
that's kind of pointless and will render his program useless. I wonder if he knows of the existence of body armor.......... I mean, they'll work the civilians rebel, but if a US SOG came, they are nearly useless. Pistol bullets don't shoot throught the heart when there is body armor, especially with a steel/titanium plate.
that training is pretty fanatical. they must have a hard time coping with all that(dogding knives). don't they every pratice with other weapons??

supposedly a DF-31 crashed during testing. The 96 accident probably was true too.
But remember this, 500 is a lot less than the millions dead during WWII, and this program tries to make it look like the PRC government is some kind of monstrocity that just tossed away 500 lives for nothing. Chuck it up for one more biased report.

What's footage from the Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter doing in that third one? (From the first post) It's intresting military stuff, but parts of it obviously arent Chinese.
In the one with Bush, yeah, that was a bit of creative editing from the guys who produce Leno. It didnt actualy happen (It's pretty obvious that is some stock Alleyway Brawl sounds) I thought it was still pretty funny.

Check this out, this guy flying a Su-27 beats 3 F-15s, dodging EVERY ONE of their AMRAAMs and Sidewinders by barrel rolling, then shoots them all down in cold blood as they run out of fuel and try to return to base
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3917848298005019724&q
Is the barrel roll really that useful in real life? I've done this too in both LOMAC and Falcon 4.0 (where good missiles like AMRAAM are almost impossible to dodge) although not for that long. I guess it takes guts for a real pilot to do that

Heres a couple of videos relating to Iraq. The first one is a propaganda video used by the former regime to show Iraq's military might - that would be easily defeated a few years later.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEkaTHtH_0o&search=Iraq%20promo%20video
This one shows the SAMs and AAA displayed in the first video in combat action in the Iraq war while Baghdad is being bombed. I mostly watch this video to observe the kind of air defences Iraq was using - if you look carefully, you'll see a few SAMs being launched.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H38Lfv3ZU6M&search=Bombs%20over%20Baghdad
By the way, does anyone have any vids of the Bombing of Belgrade?
Finn McCool
05-20-2006, 01:46 PM
That second one is really cool. I watched that live at my house as it was going on. It seems to me that the Iraqi air defence consisted of random AAA firing and shooting a couple SAMs at random too. What were those whit dots moving slowly across the screen up in the air? I thought they might be SAMs, but they were going too slow and sort of just fell back to earth, so maybe they are AAA or somesort of flare or something.

Yeah, I thought they were SAMs to, but now that you bring up that point, they might have been flares, either dropped by the U.S. bombers or used by the Iraqis to try to light up the sky. The ack-ack certainly looks concentrated, but they clearly didn't know what they were firing at or where the attackers were. It does look like a pretty co-ordinated and well-warned system. Not what it was in the Gulf War 1 though. That was way more concentrated. Does anyone have any vids of Baghdad air raids in that war?
The SAM that they launched in the second vid looked like it was easily deflected. You see what I mean, since it rises, than levels off at low altitude and the warhead detonates. Must have been quite and old missile, easily susceptible to ECM.
Finn McCool
05-20-2006, 05:42 PM
I didn't think that they were SAMs because they had so many of them. Knowing that the US didn't suffer any casualties bombing Baghdad, I thought that it was rediculous to believe that all of those things were SAMs. With that many fired, the US was bound to have taken quite a few losses. So I think they were errant tracers, flares from te ground and planes, etc. They might even have been flying debris from the US bombing. That one SAM that is at the end of the video lost its target pretty quick; you can tell from its arc and then explosion.
To me, the firing doesn't seem very concentrated at all. It looks very random, going in different directions and at differing altitudes.
DPRKPTboat
05-21-2006, 03:13 AM
Often the tracers and SAMs are very misleading. They look good on TV, but remember the Iraqis with something so outdated that they can't reach the U.S. bombers, which are probably flying at well over 10,000 feet. The Iraqi anti-aircraft weapons tended to be ineffective above 5,000 feet. The SAM that I metioned (it definetly was a SAM becauses you see it detonate in mid-air) was probably a low-altitude missile, probably a Roland or an SA-9, most likely an SA-3. These are old missiles which can be advoided easily. You see a few of them in the first video.
The ack-ack is concentrated at the start of the video, but as the explosions get more violent it seems to subside. I remember watching the raids, and the flak wasn't as numerous after that raid. That was the best the Iraqi air defences were capable of doing. But you're right that it is random, but if you look at the begginging they're trying to shoot it in a screen to catch any aircraft flying at low-level. They did that alot when they were fighting of our tornadoes from their airfields in the first Gulf War.
Two aircraft were shot down over Baghdad later in the war. One of them was an A-10. They also managed to bag a few UAVs as well. They also claim to have shot down some cruise missiles.

This one is a documentary about the attack on the HMS Coventry. Why they decided to put this particulary song in it I don't know.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCIQHNPCRWM&search=Falklands%20war
This one gives a general summary of the Falklands war. Highlights include the sinking of the ARA General Belgrano and HMS Sheffield. Again strange choice of music.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovlwgoiIS_s&search=Falklands%20war
This one is Argentine propaganda as far as I'm concerned. A lot of Britain bashing in this. They even had the nerve to put a rip off of music from Gladiator in it.

To show you the British side, heres another vid about the paras. It also has music from Gladiator.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZx48HR3wUw&search=Falklands%20war
This one is the beat vid. No bias. Just a memorial to both sides. It has the memorial tune "Gortaz a Ran" from Black Hawk Down, which I think is ideal.

Even if the ECM didn't shut downs those Iraqi systems, they still wouldn't be able to hit any US planes because they are that outdated and obsolete.

Popeye-Limp Bizkit is a horrible metal-rap band with white trash idiot Fred Durst as their front man. The crap-tastic music in the insurgent propaganda video was made by them. There's this one Chechen propaganda site...something center.com I forget the name. That has some good guerilla warfare videos, from the insurgents point of view. I wouldn't watch most of them though. Especially the ones with "punishment of collaborators in the title.

What suprises me that anyone in the military could get plump, unless they were an officer.
I am guessing that tank is just from some file footage that they spliced on to look good. I remember seeing a Chinese military movie where they spliced in footage from the trailer of GRAW.

Nice video though, very nice. Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of all who threaten it, LOL!!! (Did popeye make this? Remember, freedom is not free. Such capitalists!!! ) Now this really ties in with the current situation. (They talk about freedom, but those in the warzone haven't talked about their happiness. Life, well, hasn't the US absolutely always tried to save life. (And does, unless you are kidnapped and they don't know where you are.))
But video was nice, lots of photos. We will miss you, F-14 and EA-6. What was that Bluie Angel and C-130 crewmen doing? Wow.........nice........Spurances and Knox........ and IOWA!!! dude, it's even got the EFV on there. Lots of pics of new/exp. ships. (Why are the seals landing on their swift craft?) Nice pic of the Ohio SSGN.
As for the DPRK video. I wonder how many DPRK homes are that big. (You have to admit, that house is big for an Asian home.)

Popeye-That USN essay was cool. My favorite pics were the one where the Marine is driving the AAV-7a1 into the LHA and the ones from the tsunami. It was sort of odd to have the Katrina pics right after the tsunami one, considering we were able to respond pretty quickly to the tsunami but not to fast to the hurricane right here. However, reaponding to that tsunami so well was geopolitically important; it greatly increased America's popularity in Indonesia, a strategically vital nation.

FEMA held up the US military response to Katrina. The US military was ready to respond. The USCG rescued 1500 the first two days after the disaster but..FEMA told them to back off.. As for the Tusnami..the CVN-72 battle group just happen to be in position for that relief effort. Now this year the USN has sent the USNS Mercy on a humanitarian deployment to that region.

Dischingis Khan has to be the weirdest, skecthiest and most random and generally "What the hell" concept that a human brain has ever developed. Seriously, how do you even come up with the idea for that band...if that is what it can be called. "Let's have an ABBA-like disco ensemble then have them be based around Ghengis Khan and sing songs about random incidents from history." Sounds like a sure way to win Eurovision to me.
Have you ever heard the English version of their song "The story of Ghengis Khan"... its hilarious.

A show of the MiG-35 (MiG-29 with TVC), dunno if it was ever posted before. However the MiG demonstrates an excellent flight such as 360º tumbling, high AoA (degree?), it almost stay still in the air... so on. One thing strange: the MiG-35 is claim to have canards, but this one has none. OK enjoy and have your own comment on it :)

Hm that display is great, but that's all. Such maneuvers look great to people on airshows, but are somewhat useless or even contraproductiv in air-combat IMO.
While it is surly helpfull to quickly attain a high AOA to engage an off-boresight target, those backflips don't give you more advantage but only slow your aircraft down immensly wich leads to a predictable decent. So your just making youself the perfect target.
Of course manoeverability is importand, but such actions are, or should be, only a secondary effect achieved.
something similar, perhaps already posted because it's some month old:

http://video.google.de/videoplay?docid=-8382797869771883036&q=Su.37
I think it's the same disply, first footage from the gound, second from cockpit and another plane.
And one Tomahawk (http://video.google.de/videoplay?docid=-3652256817484693599&q=BGM+109) impact.

True, most of these fancy maneuvers we see from the Su-27 and MiG-29 are done by experienced test pilots that literally know everything about the plane, not to mention the fact that most of these maneuvers are done without external weapons and fuel levels at probably minimal. :coffee:
I would be more amazed at seeing that MiG do the same tricks with a full load and full fuel tank and a random MiG-29 pilot from Russia... ;)

Thanks to Wikipedia, I found the Young Pioneers' theme song that I've been looking for. Somehow it sounds a bit different than I remembered as a child in China more than a decade ago, but it's still great. I wish I can find a purely instrumental version of this... you know, without the whole "we are the heirs of the communist party" and "study hard" bits.

F-35B JSF First Flight Video
Posted by Graham Warwick at 6/13/2008 4:20 PM CDT
URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXzcsF2N2Ao
BAE Systems' Graham Tomlinson, lead test pilot for the F-35B STOVL JSF, says the aircraft "landed itself" after its June 11 conventional first flight. He contrasts this with his previous STOVL mount, the Harrier, where a conventional take-off is "not pretty" and a conventional landing is a "dire emergency".
Tomlinson says the first F-35B, aircraft BF-1, handles very similarly to the first CTOL F-35A, aircraft AA-1, which has been flying since the end of 2007. He notes a couple of improvements. BF-1 has two smaller nose-gear doors replacing the one-piece "barn door" on AA-1 that makes take-offs "directionally interesting". And refinements to the flight-control software make the touchdowns smoother.
BF-1 is the first production-representative, "weight-optimised" F-35, and internally is quite a bit different to AA-1. But externally, the differences are fairly limited. There are the nose gear doors and the thickened spine aft of the cockpit, looking like the over-muscled neck of a weightlifter, which accommodates the shaft-driven lift fan.
Tomlinson says BF-1 is fully configured for STOVL, and automatically checks out the lift system before flight, opening the doors and waggling the nozzle. But actual STOVL flight testing will not begin until the first quarter of 2009 because of engine issues. Lockheed says in-flight conversion tests will begin towards the end of this year with the doors being opened in flight. Early in 2009, BF-1 will begin "build-down" flight testing to a slow landing at Fort Worth, then relocate to the Navy's Pax River test center for the first full vertical landing.

Mystery Cruise Missile Video
By David Hambling
June 14, 2008 | 9:27:00 AM
URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNSHSBziyOo
Here's a video mystery that's been puzzling me for some time: footage which seems to show a group of Tomahawk cruise missiles flying in very close formation. But, so far as I know, Tomahawks don't really have the technology to pull of such a move. So is it for real?
The video appears in several places on the Internet. The title screen says "Operation: Iraqi Freedom Date: 22 Mar 03" and gives the unit and call sign of the aircraft involved, as well as a "Target Name" of "Cruise Missile Formation." It certainly seems to show several light-colored objects moving together at high speed. They do not stick to one formation but move relative to each other, while keeping quite close spacing.
Are they really cruise missiles, though? There are obvious advantages to sticking together -- they'd likely appear on radar as a single object -- but it would be difficult to achieve. Tomahawk Cruise missiles do not have air-to-air radar and can't 'see' each other. There have been models with radar which looks downwards and uses digital scene matching for navigation; that system was superseded by GPS, however.
Cruise missiles are guided via a series of pre-programmed waypoints - hence the occasion when BBC reporter John Simpson watched a cruise missile in Baghdad fly "down the street and turn left at the traffic lights." The waypoints can be specified in time and space, so a several missiles launches seconds apart could be programmed to bunch up with very small separation. But it's hard to see the advantage of doing this, compared to the very real risk of a collision that could cost you at least two missiles, if not the entire formation.
There are a few online discussions of the video which don’t shed much light, but perhaps the oddest supposedly authoritative comment is this one:
When I put this question to the Tomahawk prog
