Speaking about uniform, I personally prefer the uniform of the ROC armed forces. They look very smart and yet with strong Chinese tradition. For example, the rank ensigns do not use Western stars, but Chinese traditional plum flowers.

not quite.
ROC armed forces' insignias are not the "tradition of chinese", the plum flower as you may say is the tradition of GMD. it is their "national flower". and i don't like it very much. it seems too weak! and ROC doesn't have a good tradition, for their years, most of them they are fleeing from battles and so on. but for PLA, we beat up japanese, we created the miracle of 60 thousands defeat 80 thousand defeat. and we beat up US, and also didn't let russian win that east on the border.

This is about uniforms not Chinese victories. What you said is true red gaurd but I think it might be a bit too strong.

no, not really. a tradition to an army is very important. when type 55 uniform was issued to the troop. soldiers hated the pilotka, or the wedge cap, that's issued to the army soldiers. since type 55 is from soviet uniform, which soliders wear pilotka as head gear. and you know the soldiers hated it so much, because during civil war, PLA were fighting GMD soldiers with such head gear. they were questioning the superior, that they used their lives to fight against someone and yet, they are wearing the similiar uniform to them?
an army 's trandition is very important. that's why i am a strong believer of PLA combat cap should be changed back to the liberation cap. because like the GI joe's jeep, and soviet PPSH, liberation cap reminds every chinese soldier the glory of the troop, we wear the liberation cap won over all the super powers, and when foreigners see this cap, they see this glorious army. the cap IS the army.
just like USMC, today, they still wear that old styled how do you call....the...formal dress, when the high ranking officers go to some formal dinner and things. it's the glory, it's the pride. you just can't change something like that. and i think they are making a big mistake of changing PLA uniform like this...
i guess, not being educated in china for so many years, you wouldn't really understand the feeling, hehehe.

the marine dress uniform has changed a little since it was first used..=) so i think the PLA liberation cap, if it was to be reintroduced to the army should have a more modern look

the only reason the marine combat dress(if you are talking about this) is changed is because they don't want a "standing out" unit in the force. in case you didn't notice, all the combat/work dress on the field are the same style. just the difference of colour.
and another thing changed to the marine troop is the cap. they used to use beret, black ones with a navy shield on it. that uniform was designed by a marine colonel and now it's changed, china doesn't encourage such invention. so i say, today's chinese uniform sucks! the point the clothes sucks is because the soldiers today SUCK! no glory, no honour, no pride, NOTHING! NOTHING AT ALL!

Take off the peak cap on all except Navy and it would look exactly like ours pretty much.
Skeptical if this is legit or not.

I think it is very important for the PRC to keep its own style of uniform. A states military tradition is very very important. to copy off of another style just because it is the in fad should be avoided.

no im talking about the dress uniform which is what they wear at parades, funerals and formal occasions etc, i believe the PLA equivalent is their honour guards uniform

I don't agree. Plum flower is not just for KMT, anyone can use it. Please don't politicalise everything.
Probably you didn't know, Plum flower was among the candidates for China (PRC)'s official national flower. Plum flower bloom blossoms in winter, which represents its strong character. How can you call it weak?!
Simply because KMT uses Plum flower, so you don't like this flower. unfortunately I know 99.99% of KMT use chopsticks to eat, so have you decided to give up chopsticks too?
Again, I am probably off-topic too. But I just can not stand this kind of ignorance!

Is getting a new uniform even required by China. It won't help you fight a war. It can only waste several million dollars. Totally an unwise decision during our preparation in war with U.S and Taiwan. Every dollar should be put into good use instead of wasting it.

I don't see so much difference between those and the ones we have now. Also, there isn't much difference between the uniform of different ranks. It's easy for ordinary soldiers to get confused on how their officer looks like.

my shipment is not in canada until the summer. you know....ship...takes pretty long. but since you've mentioned. if you are willing to wait a little. i'd probably get you the full set of gears. including the whole uniform, red collar patches, the red star, if you demand, maybe the ammo punch for 56 rifle as well. if you want those, i could mail them to you while it gets here, through me, i could get you a better price than the army surplus store, you know..they always cost too much. if you could tell your friends about these, who would like to get chinese stuff as well, i could give you even better deal than this. our shipments, may include a lot of the retired from service uniforms and badges and stuff.
SORRY to be off topic. just let me slide this time, pleaseeeeee.
