Well i just found out i've wasted valuble sleepingtime...and vacation time...
I was under this impression that my math exams was now, in the morning, so i drove yesterday to my flat and came to school this mornig an hour earlyer so that I could check how's forum goes and so on...then i discover that the test are only in this AFTERNOON, so could have slept hours more (the most valuable sleepping time is the time after you first wake up...) or come to hämeenlinna only today...:nono: if i had a secretary he/she would get it :nono: ....but as engineerstudents seldom has...gotta get my soul in line....nobodys fault but mine....

6 hours on average.
I slack off too much these days and sleep at 23:30 usually.
But that's actaully above average compared to most of my peers.
Some of those attending AP Bio say the class is fun, but all say it's hard and lots of work. They are averaging aroun 4 hours of sleep. But at my school, there are practically no one who doesn't have a eye bag. (If you don't sleep enough, you'll notice pockets right under your eyes and an expanding dark spot.)
Everyone is either doing too much homework or are doing it too slowly.

It's all down to how you use your time...no matter how many courses you have per period, it's always good to put all the work in good time/importance order...eg leave the big stuff untill the last minute, then you can sleep as much as you whis and just sacrifise one or two nights to the project....
...or thats least what i'm been doing.......perhaps not the best way to become a good engineer, tough it might be the easyest...or at least it seems at this moment...you all know how the teachers keeps saying it to you that the ammount of work is standart...either you do it now, or later...

I get about 9 hours of sleep every day, 10-6. I spend most of my time after school finishing homework (and extra work) and playing piano. I normally try my best to get most of my HW done on the bus (15-20 min. ride, how lucky). I am in High school and things are kind of tough. luckly, school ends at 2pm.

when it's an early school day, about at 9:30, i mostly i sleep for 6, 7 hours the night before that, so i go to bed at about 2. if it's a no school day or after noon school day. i would sleep about 8 hours. if i am not very tired, 8 hours are the top i could see, then i wake up automaticly. if i got pretty tired, i would never sleep pass 10 hours. once i slept 5 hours and go to have an exam. and hell, i nailed it, nailed i mean i didn't fail. which i did this term, goddddddddddddddddddddddd

So, you IB/AP students, you need to sleep more!:nana:
It really depends on what day of the week for me, I get 6-7 hours on sunday and tuesday nights, because I have band rehearsal for an hour and a half the next morning, starting from 7:00. I sleep 8 hours on all the rest of the days. Pretty decent I think. As Migleader pointed out, it's all about the time management. I got a lot of extracurricular stuff, but I still get a lot of sleep.:D:p

I could never really finish my homework quickly even if it was easy.
I always give myself a 1-2 hour break after coming to do stuff on the computer.
Guess it could be turned into sleep......
But yea, homework.........

I have not done homework in 34 years!!! Of course I graduated HS in '71. We had homework in USN schools but it was easy and took only a few minutes to do. I went to a vocational HS and studied auto mechinacs.
Gollevainen did not do his homework or waits until the last minute? When I was in school we did not have that much homework as kids nowadays. I could usally do it before school was out.
Sleep? Being 52 years old I have never been much of a sleeper. I usally sleep only 5-6 hours a night. Sometimes I take a nap during the day.

I am managing very well as of now. But since I was taught up very obedient and disciplined (focusing on small homeworks than big projects of course. Never had a project in Hong Kong. Then again, that was only 3rd grade), I feel better doing my homework first. At least you don't have to worry about it after you are done, feels better. And grades are just a big thing. Bad grades feel dirty.
But I am spoiling myself now...... Totally going to skip an assignment asking 4 essays after reading 4 Chinese books (Now this is crazy, not going to do it. Not like my Chinese has gotten any better in her class.)
As for the mental breakdowns, saw it happen to 2 of my friends, and it isn't very pleasent to anyone apparently.:(
As for World History............... *sigh*
In the Bay Area (San Francisco area, at least for SF and Oakland and some of the other bad school areas. Lowell excluded.) History is neither well covered nor well taught.
Since we only learn English and Math in elementary school (K-5) ( )
History doesn't come in until 6th grade with the learning of the Major Ancient Culture (All B.C.). in 7th grade, we cover the major cultures that come After Christ. A major topic is the Middle Ages and Renaissance. In 8th grade, we learn about American History. There is no history taught in 9th grade. We learn starting from the Renaissance and Enlightenment, going up to I think WW2. (Even though we really should be covering all the world events and changes, but things got really blurred.) And that's about it for world history, except for a number of fragments of world events that the Americans got involved in. (11th grade is by name US History, covering up to 1989 I think.)
And as you can see, it is not very sufficient.
And some really bad factors:
In each class, including history, the materials covered are at least 30% review, most likely more.
There are full of repeats in history class.
And we never cover the entire book, always falling short of the goal.
They would learn the cultures, not not the important parts od history.
Not many people in my school knows about Barborossa, Holy Roman Empire, Henry the Lion Hearted, Benito M. The Mughal Empire, or any of that stuff.
Then there are the constantly changing standards. The name of Sargon was changed to Sumeria. (I mean, I never learned in class the name of Sumeria.)
And last but not least are the teachers themselves who can never teach.
I am attending US History Honors and all the teacher does really is show us videos and give us tests.
Then there is this other history teacher who can't handle her class at all. The principal had to come and watch them take their finals themselves.
Well, all in all, the history program here sucks.

speaking about history, when reading history in Sweden we used 3 months discussing and reading about keeping a critical mindset when reading history. Also we read something called "dictators writing history" which basically explained how the dictators (Hitler, Stalin) of the 20th century changed history to better suit their goals.
Also we fell a bit offtopic and discussed Hitlers and Stalins architectural ambitions (The palace of Soviets, crowned by a 100 meter statue of Lenin and the Volkshalle, a building planned to be so large that experts of the time feared that clouds would develop inside, the opening of the volkshalle was planned to be large enough for the arch of triumph to fit in the opening :))

well as history has become the topic, I have to ask you Bkulan, what they teach about Finland in there? I mean, In here one migth almoust get a picture that Sweden and Finland were almoust some sort of douple-monarchy, between 1100-1809 (result of older generation of finnish historians who liked to see Finland as seperate nation as earlyest as possible, even when concepts of nations werent formed). But somehow, in Finnish history teaching, sweden and other nordic states become silent spot after 1809 and all focus goes to Russia (it was vise versa when dealing time before that split, offcourse). Is it same in sweden or what sort of image do they try to imprint on you?

we don't recieve any education regarding early swedish-finnish history to tell the truth, it was like the two cultures always had existed side by side. However since history is one of my topics of interest i know that sweden conquered finland however regarding finland from the 16th century it is actually a quite strange view of Finland and Sweden i got during education on the topic. The view they teached us was that we swedes treated the finns like cannon fodder and slave labor during the many wars and finnish army battalions were the first to go into battle after which swedish elite troops acted support and later brought the battle to the leadership and reserve troops of the enemy armies.
Later when the muskets began to appear and Gustav II Adolf reformed the army the finns and swedes were mainly treated as equals and finnish battalions no longer acted cannon fodder but as light infantry.
when we lost Finland to Russia the finns became more of a brother people to the swedes and Scandinavism not only turned finns into brothers but also danes and norwegians even though finnish participation during all the student meetings connected to scandinavism was minimal.
Now since Finland became completely independent the finns are more than willing to prove themselves equal or even superior to swedes in sports among others and have gotten themselves a view of themselves as being the shield protecting sweden from russia and that was probably partially true during the thirties.
This is what i can remember from what they propagated in school. Why Sweden was painted black before the 17th century is beyond me however.

Now that i think about it i can remember one other thing, There is a debate in sweden in which they try to establish whether Gustav Vasa was the father of the swedish nation or an belligerent and oppressive tyrant. Quite a shame actually to bring history to such a low level since most of us already know of his actions during his time as ruler, it doesn't bring us farther from the fact that he got rid of the danes and established one of the first truly centralized states, thanks to the fact that the nobility was out of the way because of the slaughter in Stockholm. Even though his supporters, the commoners no longer saw him as their hero but rather as their common enemy which was among others the result of his actions to establish protestantism in sweden, the priesthood becoming increasingly displeased with the confiscation of church property and the greatly increased taxation to fund the swedish military and especially the shipyards.
Now you have to think of the fact that during the time the union of kalmar was without doubt the biggest state in Europe and probably the strongest too and the leadership abilities of one man managed to split the whole union in two, with Sweden and Finland being the slightly stronger of the two parts which is by no means an easy task which i believe is enough to establish whether he was a great leader regardless if he was a tyrant or not.
However regarding early swedish history it is truly a shame no effort has been taken to teach it.

Gustav vasa was argubly one of the most important figure in nordic history, and important one in whole europe...So sweden dont see them self as independent before 1520-talet? Its rather weird, I mean, Finns would if had a history of such. So that Erik (cant remember his name ar prefix but i thik it was Jovardson or Johanson...or anyway, the son of some Erik who was 'holy' in some way) who 'conguered' finland werent consider as king of sweden but somethin preceeding state? This is news to me. They didnt teach so in here...
But if talking of Vasa and wether he was a tyran or not, I think you are rigth. I mean He did but this part of the world out of middle ages and route to modern times, and who monarc could be described as 'non-tyrant'? The concept of power and any jurification backing that up in those days shouldnt be solely looked from todays point of wiev. He was well liked king among finnish comon folk who werent used to exept anything less from king, but little bit of that 'iron fist'. It was the way of things back in then. Thougt it's funny who Gustavs sons power strugle coused first uprising of finnish people, the 'club-war' of 1590s and showed first sings of something that later would be described as awekening of finnish national identity. In finnish history writings, there have been long lasting eternety struggle wheter finnish peasent rose agaisnt authorityes from their own reasons or lured to do soby King (or prince, i cant recal wether he was at the power in that moment) Erik.

well it's quite strange actually yes. Some say that sweden wasn't really a kingdom before gustav vasa but rather a loose grouping of powerful nobility with family ties in which the most favored in the family were chosen king for lifetime while others say that it was indeed a kingdom but that the king himself wasn't very powerful but relied on the nobility to do the military campaigns while he took care of the more peaceful matters at home and another group say that sweden was like any traditional kingdom, however this debate isn't going anywhere and everyone think what they want and since no one teach history of that time anyway were not likely to come to a conclusion at all.
As i said before if you're not fully awake in history class you might get the view of sweden as the area from which the vikings just popped out from and that finland was just a big forest until the vikings came and built villages there and in a decade the vikings turned from barbarous pagans into civilized christians after which history just fast forwarded to the 16th century and gustav vasas fight against the danes.
Seriously had not history been one of my topics of interest i would have had no idea what happened during those 400 years they just skipped in history class, it's as if swedish historians are ashamed of what happened during those years and rather would leave history unknown than educate us about our past which makes no sense if you consider that they used three full months to make sure everyone kept a critical mindset about what is written in the books, analysis on the topic is almost impossible without reading literature specially written about it.
