Happy holidays people! Christmas is just a bit over a week away and New Year is just 2 weeks away. This is a time of joy with your families despite of culture and race. So, any plans for this splendid holiday season? Tell us about how you celebrate Christmas.
Let's start with me: today is the last day of school!:roll: so now im home with a truck load of homeword (being an IB student) in front of my computer typing this thread and does not even think about the harshness of school after the holiday. I don't have many plans for the holiday season other than put up the Christmas lights and my Christmas tree before Christmas Eve. Other than that, my life is going to be a fix of homework, surfing the forum, and playing game :D
so, how about you?

I got a three week brake from school, Just got my driving licence (finaly!), and I just lazyng around in my parents home...Thougth Im forced to exile in some point when some relatives whit little children comes visit us, Our dog is a vicious, 30cm rottweiler with nasty habit of charching strange kids and dwarfs (thougth the later visit us rather rarely) So off we go to my 25 sq meter flat...
:nono: ...And In this forum, everybody does remember that Santa Claus lives in finland, always has and always will and all heretic suggestions will be moderated rigth away :nono: (:p )
....I just cannot believe how folk im some minor countryes had made up this silly idea that he lives in north pole? It doesent make any sense, there isent nothing more than Ice in there...and few seals and lonesome polar bears...russian nuclear icebreakers...but nothing realistic enough to prove that kind of thinking

well those who arent in good terms with christmass dont have to post in this topic...simply as that. We could drawn to conclusion that christmass is way pass of its religious meaning and formed into more like capitalist celebration of western values and vanity. As it draws the idea of pacan midwinter fest, im Ok whit it as i consider myself as some sort of wannabe pre-christian finnish/scandinavic religionist.

yes, Christmas is no longer a simple religious holiday. it's a combination of recieving gifts and... well, giving gift:p
and santa claus does not live in finland, it lives in canada (close to north pole:D ) all the way up north where only seals and polar bears live. that's why he can keep his little factory secret, because there're no humans!:roll:

this means war!!:nana: :p ;)
he lives near Russian border but has an office at Rovaniemi, capital of Lapland...
It was quite shock to hear that 'alternet information' back when we were kids...Its a some sort of land mark for all grown ups to explain finnish kids why TV says something and the sosiety other...

Santa definitely live in Finland.
I once heard a theory that Santa is a communist so that might explain why he is still around.
I Don't celebrate Christmas myself really but i love food and food is abundant around Christmas. :)
However i have a particular dislike to the gift part of the holiday since i believe that one should get (buy, recieve, make) things because (and when) he needs them.

Finland? Santa Claus is a Russian lengend (St.Nicholas) so I say SIBERIA!! :D
Here's something interesting..
Santa Claus belongs to childhood;
St. Nicholas models for all of life.
Santa Claus, as we know him, developed to boost Christmas sales—the commercial Christmas message;
St. Nicholas told the story of Christ and peace, goodwill toward all—the hope-filled Christmas message.
Santa Claus encourages consumption;
St. Nicholas encourages compassion.
Santa Claus appears each year to be seen and heard for a short time;
St. Nicholas is part of the communion of saints, surrounding us always with prayer and example.
Santa Claus flies through the air—from the North Pole;
St. Nicholas walked the earth—caring for those in need.
Santa Claus, for some, replaces the Babe of Bethlehem;
St. Nicholas, for all, points to the Babe of Bethlehem.
Santa Claus isn't bad;
St. Nicholas is just better.

according to german history, sankt nikolaus was born in turkey in about 200 ad. he was rich, but very passionate. we all know about the bags of gold he gave to a guy so the guy could prevent his daughters form being enslaved. after seriving time in prision for being a christian, nikolaus as freed by constantine.

I'm headed to Toronto for Christmas, to meet up with one of my friends who lives in Canada... (He was one of my best friends when we were in high school in Taiwan) First time I've ever gone for a vacation by myself, without my school or my parents... pretty excited!
The downside is that it's a friggin' long trip. The trip to Toronto from Ann Arbor takes... a day?!

If you could mix these two activities together I bet you'd have your holidays made! (i.e. your lady likes to play BF2)
