P.S. To the Mods, not sure if this thread belongs here in Navy section or the World Armed Forces section...please move it if you feel the need.

Can't agree with you more popeeye... I really wish those reports of increased military ties btw China and the US are true. Think having a beer is the best way to nurture goodwill among militaries! And on the subject of China/US I want to post some pics of US visits to Chinese ports...here they are for those interested

These pics are of the USS Abraham Lincoln visiting Hong Kong on the 24th Dec. 2004... she was due to spend a few days over the Xmas period in the city but unfortunately, just 2 days later a magnitude 9.0 earthquake struck causing the devasting Asian Tsunami. Nice pictures sadim81! Outstanding.:) When my son's ship went to Qingdao in Nov. 2002 the ship sponsored a lot of tours. He got to go to Beijing for 3 days. He said it was a great visit. He mentioned the food was the best he ever ate anywhere! The ship, which is now decomissioned, use to have a great web site..But alas the web page is gone.:( Too bad there were some terrific pics of China on that page.

I know a few years ago some PLAN ships came to Guam.

I would like to see some PLAN ships:china: visits San Diego or San Francisco....Now that would be interesting!:)

Thanks popeeye & drunkhomer as well, its just that I'm always pretty interested to sea what sailors get up to when they make port calls so i keep a close tab on these things...Yeah and wouldn't it be cool if an 052B or 052C visits the US?! We'd finally be able to get a closer look at her systems...drooling at the prrospect...

Anyways, sorry bout the wet dream...was surfing the net this morning at work and found a few more pics of the USS Paul F. Foster's visit to Qingdao, unfortunately, there weren't any pics that showed the crew, so don't think we'll be able to see your son...but here they are anyway;

The US Navy destroyer USS Paul F. Foster docked in Qingdao, Shandong Province on November 24, 2002. The destroyer, currently operating as part of the US Seventh Fleet in routine operations in the western Pacific, is on a four-day port call in Qingdao. The destroyer, with some 340 crew, is the sixth US warship to stop in Qingdao, but the first since the August 2000 EP-3E collision(didn't know that! looks like your son was on an ice-breaking trip popeeye LOL)

Sadim81 about that
What is that thing???
I'm pretty sure it's one of those "see through smoke" gadgets firefighters use to rescue people or infrared device to locate fire behind walls. Don't know the real name of it though.. Makes logical sense, why else would a damage control team need that

wow...impressive pics you got there Sadim! Thank you!

Do any of you know if some of the Sovermenny's and Udaloy's in the Russian Pacific Fleet has ever visited Chinese harbours? Or even the "Varyag" (the Flagship, a Slava) for that matter?

Would be weird if they havent, seeing the cooperation between the two nations.

More nice pics sadim81! Thanks for posting.

What I really want the USN to do is send a CV/CVN to Quindao or Shanghai. Going to Hong Kong is no big deal for a CV/CVN. Does anyone think that will ever happen?..I must confess I started a thread about that subject in the old forum.

hehe I dont think a CVN would ever be able to sail up the Yangtze River into Shanghai, but a CVN pulling into Qingdao would be something to behold.

In my opinion though, I dont think we'd be able to see that for a while yet given the current current climate of suspision between the two nations, maybe when the next administration comes into office we'll see a change, but definately not before President Bush finishes his tenure.

Furthermore, I believe the CVs' recent port calls (by USS Abraham Lincoln, USS Kity Hawk & USS Constillation) to Hong Kong are a subtle way of showing political support for democratic reform in China. And a visit to the mainland by a CVN would certainly be seen by some in the US as an 'endorsement' of communist rule, giving the chinese government more political winfall. Can't really think of a reason China wouldnt want a visit by a CVN...so think this mostly rests with the U.S.
