These pics are taken from the Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard in Shanghai. Is that just a civilian tanker of some sort? is it even a ship:confused:

Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard in Shanghai

what is usually build in there? Weren't most of the newes chinese warships build in dalian?

Originally Zhonghua Shipyards, it merged with Hudong Shipyards in mid 2000, for quick intro see

http://www.hz-shipgroup.com/intro-e.htm

The shipyards builds everything from crude oil cariers & passenger ships to Naval vessels for the PLAN. Most notable/recent of these are the new type 072III and 072II LSTs as well the 054 Ma'anshan Frigates.

But I'm not sure if those pictures are that of a military vessel...the shape is so perculiar, looks like a big hanger almost...pretty sure its a ship tho, its on a drydock & it looks to be of modular construction

my friend who works on a shipyard says it is a LNG gas tanker

next to the crane there is already the bridge?
stealh ship with bridge? nah its one of those
and the "big hangar" is the tank

That ship looks like a ship my ex-brother in law sailed on for a couple of years. He use to work for Stolt-Nielsen.

Those merchant ships are so different from a warship. Espically reguarding the compartmentation. There are more wide open spaces on those merchants.

The HD shipyard should be building 054A and 071 LPD right now. Not sure about the ships in the picture though. There should be no stealth ship under construction in this shipyard.

an lpd??? or a amphibious transport. its hull design certainly doesnt match that of any other plan warships. i wish we could see the front...
the stealth slanting is strange for an lpd, and the hull kinda resembles that of a ddg.
weve been hit with another plan surprise. not everything that is built is announced

didnt you read my post? its just a tanker and no LPD or landing craft
just a trapezoid tube

I doubt it is a tanker. I certainly do not see a bridge or signs of a shape of a vessel. I think Iv got it, it must be some sort of structure. Perhaps it might be used to cover up a new ship the PLAN is constructing so no one can take pictures of it or find out what is being consructed, it certainly does not look like a vessel. Dont go haywire, its just a guess.

or not. your tanker has slanted sides, but they do not fuse with the hull. this ships's sides actually join to the sides, like a warship.

it is just the tank it has to be a trapezoid to withstand the pressure

why else would it need 2 hulls on the top ?

it is just the tank it has to be a trapezoid to withstand the pressure

why else would it need 2 hulls on the top ?you should compare the size, the height of that so called tank is much larger than what you see in the other tanks, the lenght might be compareble but not the height.

look at the size of the stand inside every floor of it should be 2m high
so if you count that together the whole object is 12-14 meters high wich fits very good inside that tanker i have postet, plus the 1st part of the tanker does get thinner , the tank also doenst have a roof there

also look at the 4-5 little increases on the top, used to fill it (look at the other ship)

There should be a San Antonio class size LPD (type 071 LPD) that will start assembly in HD shipyard soon or have already started. I'm not saying the one in the picture is that.

I am pretty sure that it is a LNG tanker. In August 2004, HuDong-Zhonghua won an order to build 2 LNG tankers for US$400 million. This was the first LNG contract won by a Chinese shipyard, and represents a significant acheivement for the Chinese shipbuilding industry since LNG tankers are among the most advanced types of civillian ships. The ships are due to be delivered in 2007.

Have to agree thats probably a LNG Tanker. Thought it was a civilian ship cause of its sheer size, but just didn't know what kind of ship would employ that sort of design...thanks ger_mark for da pics...think this is probably cleared up now :)
