I understand there are a couple white guys in this forum. the rest are either chinese or foreign chinese.
So, people who are here. would you tell me why you are here?
first, tell us who you are, either chinese or none chinese, and where you are (because this affects your english and mind)
then, please tell us, why you are so interested in chinese military and decide to stay in this forum.
first, i myself.
i am chinese, who lives in canada. i am also a ...i don't know the word in english, i am the guy who does the work of arranging the threads, and keep the peace in the threads in chinese military forum. because i like chinese military and my friend asked me to come here, so here i am, to see how you white guys think about chinese military.
so why are you here????

not all non-chinese members here are white, there's popeye, and there are indians on here too, anywayz, you bring up a good point, we need to attract more non-chinese members too.
i'm chinese canadian. i lived in canada a lot longer than i did in china, got a lot of family serving in the military and thinking of possibly doing that myself later on after i get my degree. so it's in the blood to be here.

Well i'm white (a real paleface ;) ) and i have been interested in all military matters for long time now....china has come along among the rest of the countryes...reason why i'm in this particular forum is that i was sort of stucked in here...i came along in the early days of the ezboard forum to discuss about artillery...then i just couldn't leave....

im still chinese, although i live in canada right now and have been here for almost 5 years now. im in the process of getting my canadian citizenship, or at least my dad is getting it for me because im under 18 therefore i don't have to take the citizenship test (my dad takes it for me).
im here because im interested in how well china is doing in military. i read all the semi-BS from all sorts of newspapers and stuff so i want to know the truth (or at least something less BS-ish).
btw i seriously hate the fat white security guard at the US embassy in vancouver, i have nothing against US really, just that his attitude makes him seem to believe he's the superior kind and we're all slaves... (and need i say they refused me to go to disneyland:( )

I'm technically a American. I was born in the States to Taiwanese parents and spent most of my childhood there before moving to Taiwan. I came back to the States a few months ago to go to college (Hopefully UM). I don't have Taiwanese citizenship, though.
I'm on this board because... I like to participate in military discussions, and it seems to be one of the more active ones that isn't all bullshit.:)

if you're not majoring in engineering, business, or economics, it is very possible that you can find a cheaper, better university.

Why am I'm here? it started in my quest for knowledge about a possible PLAN CV/LPH program. Which is still a mysetry to us all. I stumbled on the old forum and some other forums. All seem to be boasting a reversed "PS" photo of a USN Nimitz class in Newport News. Of course the poster claim it was proof of the PLAN building a CV....That peaked my intrest. That was in April 2005.
I've always been intrested in Asia. Espically China ever since Pres Nixon "opened" China to the US and the rest of the world with trade. I was on the USS Midway in Hong Kong in Feb.'74 when Pres Nixon sent Alexander Haig to Beijing. That was big news in Hong Kong. I remember the loacls in Hong Kong were very happy about the trip.
After reading this forum and doing some research online I found out that I did not know as much as I thought I did.:o
I really enjoy this program. i just wish some of you were a little more more mature. That's all.
I'm a Black American. My ex-wife is from the Philippines.

I am always looking for a chance to learn more about the military gear of the world. I have always felt that as an American (non Asian in decent ) , China has the potential to be the USA's best friend or Greatest foe, Under the right circumstances. That and i needed some Chinese weapons back ground for a Mecha (giant Robot) story I am working on.
Incidentaly any one know what the PLA would call a walking tank ( if one were real)?

I am American-Chinese. I was born in the US but my family came from the Peoples Republic of China. I respect both America and China dearly and I get pretty pissed off if some one says America, China (priticuarlly China), or the communist party is evil or weak. To me, America is a great place but I dislike how they operate their government, and their arogance. my higest hope is for America and China to become friends. As for why im here, I respect the PLA very much and want to learn how much China is improving, I already know too much about the US military. oh and Terran, I think you are talking about CID or cybernetic infantry device, its a project the american department of defence is working on, it is basiclly a robotic suit worn by a human and the person controls it, it is still under development.

Hey man same here! :) actually i came to aus with my family when I was 9. I was born in Guangzhou, and still have lots of family there...
Im here in this forum cause it seems to be the one of the few where ppl post sensible discussions, rather than just trying to advocate the superiority of their own country/military... and even if discussions start to go off track, ppl NICELY:nono: point you back to the topic instead of starting a pointless flaming war, nothing worse than wasting time on reading senseless drivel...
Of course, this site also has the most info on the Chinese military which i am naturally interested in.

It is an essay on the current Chinese Armed Forces, PLA, Navy, Airforce. Much of my information comes on this site. Esentaly made for those not in the know of the military, and largely to dispell the ideas many people around me seem to have that the PLA is a group of backward military novices.

I'm Australian (my title 'Devil_dingo' relates to an old Australian aboriginal dream time story). I have an interest in the military from a general point of view and since the demise of the Soviet Union I have turned my attention to the Chinese armed forces (PLA, PLA-N and PLA-AF) in particular as I view them as the next military superpower. I'm also an amature writer.

Well, here's my story. About two years ago my sophmore English teacher wanted us to write a research paper about a controversial topic. I ended up picking the fight over Kashmir because my other topics weren't good enough for her. Anyway, I went ahead and started to do some research about the topic and I landed at PDF (*********************.com). I didn't join the forum until last year, but I did read all the articles on the forum with great interest. Afterwards, I read a book called "War at the Top of the World" by Eric S. Margolis. He wrote much about the rivalries in South Asia and much about the Chinese armed forces. I then decided to do some research about the Chinese armed forces and I came to this site. I was one of the first members on this site (well, I registered a couple of months after the forum opened up) and afterwards I became a mod.
What really opened my eyes to the world was 9/11. Before then I had no idea what happened in the world or why it happened. After 9/11 I decided not to be caught off guard again. Since then, I have accumulated much knowledge in terms of politics and military related issues. Well, that's my story.

Well, my parents owned a restaurant in waterbury, Vermont. (I was born in Morrisville) I was 3 then and my main entertainment was getting myself onto a chair and stare out the window, so I became interested by shapes and structures. Then I saw my 1st plane and felt in . (I was going back to Hong Kong and Guangzhou for the first time.) Then in 6th grade, my love for aircraft seeped into military crafts. (Before I was only looking at civiliners like 747s, the only military crafts I really knew was the F-15 and F-16.) Then into the entire military. But looking at America was a bit board for someone living in the US. So instead I focused into China instead. And researching, I found sinodefence while researching on PLAN. Then one day, I noticed there was a link on sinodefence to the ezboard forum talking about the new bazooka and the 2208 FAC. I went there and found this place.

High-School. Practicaly a small book at this point :)
And Gollevainen, If I ever manage to figure out how to, I would be more than happy to! Keep in mind though, it isint exactly perfect and only basic information as the subject matter is, as you know, very complex.
Right now, as far as progress, I am on the ground forces, and currently discusssing light transport/recon cars and trucks.
By the way, sorry to leap so far :off , but they did ask politely!

a question to all the sinodefence regulars and other members-
Would you join the French Foreign Leigon?
Just felt like asking.
Basically I saw the Sinodefence website as a source in an article I read and went to the site while procrastinating on a report I had to do. I found the forum and now I can use the website to procrastinate all the time. :D
I read the forum for a while before joining so I knew rules, ppl and stuff. I'm from the US, its a good country that everbody be hatin' on.

Interesting...
I am half chinese so one my friend is talking about how US is going to kick china's ass in war in taiwan(if happen). I told him it is not going to be that easy to beat china, He then said china's military is soooo old and backward. I didn't get mad but say i will do more research.
the next day I come acoss this site .
I come here because some people posted a link in CMF in 2001.

If things in my life had turned out a bit differently I could've definitely considered joining. About 8 yrs. ago I met a couple guys who were just out of the 'try outs' for FFL. One of them was a big meat head New Zealander--they wanted him to join up but he decided it was too much of a committment. The other guy was a scrawny Brit--they didn't want him. They also said they were A LOT of ex eastern bloc soldiers there. Anyway, it's tough to get in and a serious committment, but if you are somewhat crazy and don't have anything/anyone pinning you down it would be a very interesting life.
