Also, I try to focus on those which are been posted at least semiseriously, not deliberatly humouruos motives.

Former KGB Chief Reveals Supernatural Truth

Former KGB chief Vladimir Kryuchkov spent 20 years in the Soviet intelligence agencies. In an interview with the Komsomolskaya Pravda daily he reveals what the KGB knows about UFOs and other supernatural phenomena, life in space and secret agents’ secret methods.

The media keep telling us about UFOs and a variety of other supernatural phenomena. Researchers and cosmonauts may have different opinions on the matter, but all of them are sure of one thing: that exact information can be obtained from the intelligence agencies. You headed the Soviet secret service for the longest period of time, 17 years, that is, from 1971 to 1988. You also chaired the KGB from 1988 to 1991. You must be able to give us the ultimate truth — are there any UFOs out there?

We have never received any proof whatsoever that UFOs or other supernatural phenomena actually exist.

The authorities asked me many times to prove or refute reports of this or that inexplicable incident on the planet. Most frequently I received requests concerning UFOs and yetis, the “snow people�. I would commission our best specialists and agents to find out where the reports that worried society so much came from. In the end it always turned out to be pure imagination. Sometimes an ignorant observer would interpret an unfamiliar phenomenon in a mystical way, sometimes a perfectly ordinary event would be called supernatural to make news. Often the people would add the KGB knew about the supernatural phenomenon, but wanted to keep it secret.

With full responsibility I have to state — never ever during the long period of my work with the intelligence service was anything really supernatural spotted, either in Russia or in any other country. When I say “other country�, I rely on the information from the highest officials, military, research and of course the intelligence agencies of foreign states.

The point is, in every “important� country presidents, prime ministers and secret service chiefs requested investigations into resonant abnormal incidents. And in every case, in each country, competent people would give one and the same answer — no. I have personally read copies of these reports.

I finally came to the conclusion that, for better or for worse, there is nothing supernatural on the Earth.

Then how do you explain the annual self-ignition of the sacred fire in Jerusalem?

I’m afraid I must disappoint you — it is just smart work, or if I may say so — a trick of the local clergymen. It has nothing to do with the divine powers. I could go further and say that our KGB researchers could organize a couple of miracles in Moscow that would totally outshine the Jerusalem fire. But this would mean playing games with believers’ religious feelings. This is utter disrespect, relying on their ignorance of some natural phenomena and secret scientific inventions.

However, I do not rule out the possibility of us having neighbors in the endless depths of space. Space abounds with various life forms, but of course they have nothing in common with the stories that indecent researchers and mentally ill people tell us. Actually the only accident that inspired serious theories was that of the Tunguska meteorite…

Did the Soviet authorities commission you to get information about the Tunguska comet from the U.S.?

No. Because there was not a single clue to start from. If we had had something, we would have tried to investigate, but we didn’t! And neither did the U.S. nor any other country.

By the way, the Americans tried conducting so-called “parapsychology experiments�, but made no progress. Neither did our own research institutes in this respect, although we also conducted some research… There are more exaggerations than achievements here.

More precisely, no discoveries at all, and this with the efforts of the KGB’s best, most extraordinary thinkers. This is a field that generations can explore for years, and still discover nothing. So you have to be careful when approaching it, and give no promises to anybody, but persistently continue the research. Then maybe you can answer some of the expectations by revealing something new.

So all these rumors of the KGB’s ’zombifying’ its agents, or of whole closed special-mission towns, this is sci-fi fantasy, playing games with an ignorant and spooked public. At the same time the subject looks fairly promising to me; we know so little about the human body, while the experiments show it has an amazing potential…

So, what I want to say is that — had there been anything at all, our agents would have informed me immediately.

Books and movies about spies are packed with stories of mysterious deaths. Venoms that are impossible to trace, unheard of weapons and murderous fighting techniques. Now is any of that true? Who and in what case would act this way?

All of this is true. Some still is. But “the fashion� today is a battle of minds. Intelligence agents, and especially espionage agents try to outwit their opponents with complicated operations. They try to fool their opponents.

Actually the murder of Stepan Bandera was one of the last cases when the KGB disposed of undesired people by means of violence. The USSR abandoned those methods in the times of Andropov, at the beginning of the 1980s.

The West proclaimed the same non-violence policy, but we have information raising doubts that, say, the Americans follow this policy. We witnessed agents who were U.S. nationals disappear, and then learned they were dead.

Is it possible to steal a person from a foreign country and secretly bring them to Russia?

Well, technically this is no problem at all! Just name him! More important here is the issue of relations between Russia and other states.

The times when we stole people are gone. If you steal a person today, and another tomorrow — who can guarantee other states will not start thinking badly of us? They may decide that Russia is not to be trusted, is not to be dealt with. Relations with other countries are more important for Russia than success in a single case.

New human race of indigo children appears on Earth

Indigo children's immune system is several thousand times stronger than that of an average human being

A pretty little girl who lives deep in the heart of Latgaglia (Latvia) enjoys talking. She talks nonchalantly about her nightly travels across the Universe in an astral body. Take a closer look at your offspring. Researchers claim that 95% of children born after 1994 are the indigo children. The fascinating adjective derives from the color of an aura around their bodies. The internal organs of these children have different functions, their immune systems is several times stronger than that of an average person. The children also have a different kind of DNA, a mutation kind. In other words, as regards the changes in DNA, millions of residents of planet Earth are not humans. A race of new beings is slowly but surely climbing the stage.

You might as well be an indigo boy or girl because the indigo phenomenon started at the beginning of the 1990s. But you can not conjure up a miracle or two or see through the walls. You can not just ignore the needs of the new generation otherwise precious little creatures will suffer from mental instability and disturbed thinking. You should bear in mind that they are the pioneers who kicked off a new era and therefore they need our support.

Yeah, I have just about heard them all. The KGB one is intresting, but he will never get the evidence to back it up within his lifetime. But it really wouldint suprise me that the KGB was willing to stage religous events, but I do doubt they discontinued using violent means. The one about the kids....eh, another one of those 'end of the world' conspiracy BS stories. People have been saying the world will end since the world began.

Chupacabra: A flying, blood-sucking kangaroo?

A woman saw Chupacabra attacking a domestic animal and described the beast as a creature resembling kangaroo with fangs and wicked red eyes

The phenomenon of Chupacabra, or a goat vampire, appeared in Puerto-Rico mountains in the middle of 1995. Some unknown monster was killing cattle in the town of Canovanas and its outskirts by drinking all of their blood. When farmers found dead animals it turned out they had no blood at all. It seemed as if their blood had been sucked out through one or two tiny wounds. A local veterinary examined several dead animals and said those were wounds of a straw diameter and from three to four inches long. The deaths of domestic animals were really mysterious and spread terrible panic over the place in September of 1995.

A woman saw Chupacabra attacking a domestic animal and described the beast as a creature resembling kangaroo with fangs and wicked red eyes. Another eyewitness from Canovanas, Misael Negron, said the creature was "about four feet high. It had dinosaur skin, bright red eyes of a chicken egg size, long fangs and thorns on the back of the head and all along the back." The beast attacked the man's goat. Similar incidents occurred to many other citizens of the town.

In November, information about the goat vampire spread outside Puerto-Rico. Luis Guadalupe described the beast as "ugly as a demon and flying in the air." The man also added that the creature had a pointed tongue of a snake. What was the creature in fact? Some people said domestic animals were attacked by wolves, vampires or even a devil. Others believe it was an extraterrestrial being.

Puerto-Rico has been the haunt of UFOs for a very log period. It was rumored about USA's secret army bases and mysterious luminescence in the sky. What was going on in Puerto-Rico? Is it just a coincidence that Aresibo observatory is located in the northern part of the island? One thing is for sure that rumors and fears will be spreading until the mystery is happily solved.

People say that one can the smell of sulfur when Chupacabra appears. Eyewitness Madelyne Tolentino said: "The beast was jumping like a kangaroo, and it smelled of sulfur." In some occurences the creature demonstrated its supernatural strength. People said that once it pulled down heavy metal gate of 16 to 14 feet in size to get to the shed where animals stood. It was supposed that the smell accompanying the beast was in fact the instrument making animals motionless so that Chupacabra could suck their blood.

In some cases not only animals but even people fell victims to the terrible monster. Angel Pulido from Jalisco confessed he had been bitten by creature "resembling a giant bat looking like a witch." In Mexico, Teodora Reyes demonstrated marks supposedly left by Chupacabra's claws.

Recent information about Chupacabra came from California, Texas, Miami and Baja California. The beast was spotted many times in Mexico as well. One of the first attacks of Chupacabra was registered in Tucson, Arizona, where the beast attacked Billy Nubian's two goats. The man described the beast as a huge rat-like creature that let out a shriek when detected and ran away.

A dog with two marks resembling needle pricks on the neck was found in Baja California. As of today, it is the only report about Chupacabra that has come from Baja California. Sixty-nine animals of farmers were killed overnight in Miami. The animals belonged to two farming families living in Sweetwater who appeared on TV to say that had been Chupacabra's evil doing. Some terrible killings were also registered in Panama. Daisy Arauz said the monster killed their family dog. More information about dead animals with marks on their necks comes from countryside.

Russian girl transformed into a cactus....

Herbal cells may settle down and parasitize on the organism of a human or an animal

Geneticists say that mutations seriously change the set of chromosomes, and people with mutations can thus hardly be called humans. In Yerevan in the former Soviet republic of Armenia, 18-year-old girl Narine Aivasyan shocked doctors with her unusual disease. The girl complained about an abscess on her wrist that had been hurting her for a long period already. When doctors opened the bandage on Narine's hand they saw two very thin thorns sticking out of the hand.

The girl failed to enter a higher education institution after she left school, and had to help her mother about the house and assisted her in a store where the woman worked. The girl was fond of pot plants and devoted much time to looking after her plants. Once, Narine pricked herself on a cactus while watering plants. Some thorns got stuck in her wrist. The parents immediately disinfected the wound but it still festered and even expanded. Narine was reluctant to visit a doctor. She had to go to a hospital in a month when a point of a thorn emerged on the skin right on the place of the red wound. Doctors easily removed the strange object, but more thorns turned up on the same spot soon.

Head of the immunology and virology laboratory at the Armenia research center Tigran Davtyan says the world medicine has never known before that herbal cells may settle down and parasitize on the organism of a human or an animal. Deeper study of the thorns removed out of the girl's wrist confirmed their vegetative origin. It turned out that the thorns belonged to a cactus that many people had at home.

The only way to save the girl was to perform an operation to remove the fistula to stop the cactus from parasitizing all about the organism. The wound healed up after the operation and did not trouble the girl for four years.

Narine's mother says the girl could not recover from the shock for a very long period and feared that the thorns might reappear. The tragedy made the girl reserved and unsociable. But still she kept on looking after her pot plants.

One day Narine noticed her wrist turned red once again but she would not confess to her parents that the disease reappeared. The girl felt her forearm swell and soon a thorn as thick as a match burst her skin.

This time a fistula appeared in a sinew zone. Narine clenched her fists, the muscles pushed new thorns out and doctors removed them with pincers. At that, the wound was not bleeding. Doctors removed from 70 to 100 thorns from the girl's arm every day. But they still appeared later, which suggested there were two or three parasite cells still staying in the girl's organism. Doctors from many countries stated there was not a surgical but rather a microbiological problem.

When researchers studied the bigger thorns they arrived at a conclusion that they were no longer of vegetative origin. As a result of mutation, the patient got new unknown cells, some sort of a hybrid of a human and a plant. In other words, the young girl was turning into a cactus.

Experts believe the terrible metamorphosis sounds warning for mankind. "Evolution and progress seriously damage the human immune system. People become more vulnerable to unknown parasites and viruses," Tigran Davtyan says.

Now the girl is 26. When Narine had blood poisoning some people rumored she died. But parents of the girl told doctors Narine was alive but felt too bed. The strange disease made her extremely apathetic and pessimistic as she knows that doctors obviously cannot help her.

In Kazakhstan, a woman from a remote village gave birth to her third son who turned out to be a very unusual being. The baby was covered with hair from top to toe. Only his cry resembling that of a normal baby proved that he was a human being. Ayaulym, the mother of the unusual baby did not reject him. She took the boy to the village where her family lived. The baby suffers from hypertrichosis, an infrequent genetic disease described in medicine literature. Patients suffering from it have too much hair on the face and body. There are just few people in the world having the diagnosis. Unfortunately, there is still no treatment for the disease.

Until the boy turned five, his parents did not take him to doctors. Being absolutely despaired they had no notion that some treatment for the disease could actually exist. The family lived in isolation, but neighbors soon learnt that a strange being resembling a monkey but speaking the human language was living next door.

Doctors say the boy did not at all feel shy when parents took him to the hospital for the first time. Ablai, this is the name of the unusual boy, is a very active child. Other children staying on treatment at the hospital got used to the unusual boy and even played together. Now the boy is nine years old. Unfortunately, Ablai cannot go to a public school. The local administration sent the boy to a correction educational institution though his intellectual abilities are normal.

People in Kazakhstan have already got used to the fact that healthy parents may from time to time give birth to abnormal babies. They explain the phenomenon with closeness to nuclear testing areas. There are 19 nuclear testing areas in the republic.

Student Alexander Rybakov from the University of St.Petersburg usually feels hurt when strangers mistake him for an old man. Sometimes even co-students at the University think he is an old professor because the young man looks very much like an elderly. At the age of eight Alexander for the first time felt he had some cardiovascular system problems. At the age of twelve, the boy had a bald spot on the head; the face was covered with a web of wrinkles by the age of sixteen. It seemed Alexander jumped over the traditional maturing stages and turned into a pensioner right after being a teenager.

At first, doctors registered that Alexander's internal organs were wearing out too quickly. At the age of 14 the boy's height was much lower than that of other children of his age. Many of callous senior students at school mocked at the boy. But Alexander was very wise for his young age and never took the mockery very much to heart. After graduation from the university Alexander will become a programmer which will give him a chance to work at home.

Viktor Michelson from the Russian Academy of Sciences Cytology Institute says there are two varieties of the ageing syndrome. When patients suffer from Werner's disease they all of a sudden begin to grow old in the young age. When patients have progeria, they look like very old people already at the age of 12. In both cases, people have their ageing gene affected. In other words, their biological clock goes several times quicker. The only treatment that medicine offers to children who turn into elderly is cure of senile diseases typical of the syndrome.

Several months ago, a 13-year-old girl who looked like a very old woman died of a stroke in the city of Orenburg. A boy from Kazakhstan became wrinkled overnight at the age of four.

Some researchers believe that decoding the ageing gene may solve the secret of eternal youth.

It is not clear for sure why babies come to this world being invalids. Geneticists state that inheritance and parents' mode of living are the cause of babies' inborn disability just in fifty percent of instances. It is known that 90 mothers of 100 reject their babies with inborn pathologies right after childbirth.

Doctors say that today half of babies in children's homes in Russia have inborn pathologies. It is typical of modern young mothers to reject their unhealthy babies. These young mothers at the age of 15-18 as a rule smoke a lot, take drugs and suffer from anemia and consequently cannot give birth to healthy babies. Even doctors persuade young mothers to reject their abnormal babies. It is a heavy burden for parents in this country to bring up invalid and abnormal children. The government pays miserable disability pension. Children having abnormalities will not be accepted to public schools even if they have normal intellectual abilities. But if attending a correction school, these children will never have a chance to enter a higher education institution and thus will not have a proper profession and employment. It is particularly distressing that children suffering from diseases and abnormalities unknown to medicine do not have a chance to be accepted in the society even as invalids.

Parents who reject their babies because of their abnormality do not realize that they deprive them of normal life immediately after birth. Parents should remember that they are responsible for their babies' fates. Even abnormal and invalid babies need love and care to survive in the world. Today, medicine may help cure many of slight inborn pathologies to give a happy life to parents and their babies. Parents are the only people who may help children with pathologies be brave and optimistic when they are not welcomed in the society.

Dogs try to talk to people

It is possible that dogs have rational mode of behavior besides instincts and reflexes. They are able to express their emotions by posture, gestures and "facial expression"

According to the Chinese calendar 2006 is the Year of the Dog. It seems that we know everything about this animal: dogs are loyal, clever, kind but can be aggressive and dangerous.There must be no mystery about the dog that is still left unsolved. But is it really so? Famous biophysicist, PhD in biology, one of the leading scientists of the Russian Academy of Sciences and member of New York Academy of Sciences, Aleksander Dubrov thinks that there is a room for argument here.

Q: Does it only seem to people that they easily understand dogs?

A: It is the "speech" of the dogs and other animals I'd like to talk about. Animals communicate with each other through different signals and codes that express anxiety, fury, love etc. These natural signals are not considered logical speech or means of communication. However, animals just as humans "speak" in a different way. Consider, for instance, the monotonous woof of some lap dog and the rich intonations of terrier"s growling. I am not aiming at offending the lap dogs, though. Some of them are truly talented vocally.

Apart from the "speech" dogs use other means of communication like posture, gestures and "facial expression", if I may put it so. Smells are important as well. There are also communication channels between animals that are not well studied. They are connected with the bioelectromagnetic fields and complex acoustic signals. When we think that the dog understands us and wants to say something good but is not able to do so, it is close to the truth.

Q: Nevertheless, dogs cannot speak.

A: Don't be hasty in making conclusions! British cynologists conducted several experiments with two groups of dogs that were placed in the same conditions. The first group was cared by people very well, while the second one was almost deprived of people's attention.The dogs were fed and walked in the same way. However, people talked and expressed their emotions only to the first group. Dogs in this group remain themselves while the ones in the second group started producing strange sounds. Scientists came to the conclusion that dogs try to imitate human speech, transmitting information about their needs and state. When the researchers started paying more attention to the second group dogs soon turned back to their usual bow-wow.

Moscow Pinscher Stepan greeted his master so accurately that the master's relatives would often mistake his voice with the woof of the dog. Once Stepan even produced a phrase that was never used in the house before: "It's time to eat!" Soon he started using it every time he felt hungry.

Scientists that are studying this phenomenon began to question whether it was just a mechanical imitation. If yes, than where do the independently and logically constructed phrases come from? If it is just a coincidence why does it happen so often?

At the beginning of the 20th century in Germany there was a dog called Ralph that could read: tipping with its paws - that was a sort of Morse code - the dog could construct whole sentences that were not so simple, I must say. In 1915 a book of Ralph's recollections and letters was published in Mannheim.

Q: Wasn't it just a joke?

A: The thing is that it was true. Scientists still cannot agree on mechanism and psychological basis of the animals' speech. Some think that the social labor developed abstract thinking of people that is not common for animals. Thus animals can possess only some elements of this quality.

Other researchers believe that many animals are able to think abstractedly, generalize and evaluate. The problem is that we know so little about them while they are trying to explain what they need.

Famous Russian animal psychologist L. Krushinskiy thinks, "The highest form of neural activity that is considered rational can be diverse". You can even see them through the phase-contrast microscope. Clathrates are almost electrically neutral in distilled water. However, Zenin found out that their electroconductivity could be changed. Here the newly-formed crystals are examined at temperature of 5C below zero. The most characteristic ones are photographed.

Dr. Emoto and his team study water from different sources of the world and also water that was effected by music, image, television, thoughts of a single person and a group of people, prayers, words typed or pronounced in different languages etc. Emoto discovered that there was a significant difference between crystals that listened to Beethoven and heavy-metal. Words "angel" and "devil" form structures that are similar and completely opposite at the same time.

Schizophrenia helps learn the unknown

Sigmund Freud, an incorrigible materialist, could not but admit the existence of enigmatic and mystical phenomenon of the human psyche. "I would focus on the study of parapsychology if I did not deal with psychoanalysis, which has gained too much publicity now," wrote he in one of his letters dated 1924. Thus he admitted that phenomena of the conscious and subconscious can not be explained by traditional materialism-based science.

The Varieties of Religious Experience, a book by the great American philosopher and psychologist William James, was published in 1902, two years after the publication of Freud's The Interpretation of Dreams. The Varieties of Religious Experience found its way into the canon of philosophy and psychology. The book was translated into all principal languages. It triggered a heated debate over the genuine nature of the human psyche.

James referred to numerous examples, either historical or experienced by his contemporaries, showing that religious visions and revelations are not the oddities of the twisted mind. On the contrary, they are the real events of the spiritual world and they should be painstakingly studied.

A true picture of the stages of the psyche can be painted using such events, a "stream of consciousness."

Besides, William James cited the results of experiments with nitrous oxide during which people went through the mystical experience. For the first time in academic books, he raised the question of using certain substances as effective catalysts for inducing alternative mental realities.

The death of James in 1910 gave rise to quite a few rumors and legends. The story about the "red pajamas" is the best-known story of the kind. Shortly before passing away, James advised Professor Hawforth that he would communicate with him from the other side. Six months later Hawforth received a letter from Ireland. A man and his wife wrote to him to inform that "William James" had contacted them during a spiritualistic session. The spirit gave them Hawforth's address and asked them to get in touch with the professor so that they could remind him of the story about the "red pajamas." Hawforth racked his brains trying to figure out what pajamas the spirit had talked about. Finally, he unearthed a recollection of him and James buying fancy red pajamas in Paris many years ago.

Meanwhile, the big changes took place in traditional psychiatry. In 1911, Freud's teacher, the prominent Swiss psychiatrist and neurologist Eugen Bleuler suggested that his colleagues stop using the term "early dementia" for a number of mental disorders which were not associated with organic brain disease. On the basis of accumulated material, Bleuler put forth the term "schizophrenia" or "split mind" in Greek. Bleuner also raised the question: Is schizophrenia a disease or a peculiar variety of mental reality? He actually kicked off a heated debate about what should be called the norm and what should be called a mental disorder.

Carl Gustav Jung, one of the greatest reformers of psychology and psychiatry, lived through a series of remarkable experiences in 1916-1917. The experiences are particularly significant since we are talking about a professional psychiatrist with 9 years of clinical practice.

Jung and members of his family were living in a faraway estate on the shore of Lake Basel in 1916-1917. He frequently found himself in the unusual states of consciousness. Ghosts and other disembodied spirits visited him. An astral being was calling on Jung during the winter of 1916-1917. Jung writes in his book Memories, Dreams, Reflections that the being introduced himself as Vasilyd, a Gnostic from Alexandria of the 2nd century.

According to Jung, it was Vasilyd who had dictated him a mystical text to be published later under the title Seven Sermons to the Dead. The book is a masterpiece that defies any interpretation. One is likely to get a mind-blowing experience by merely leafing through the book.

From the point of view of traditional psychiatry, Jung was going through an acute fit of schizophrenia with hallucinations while working on Seven Sermons to the Dead. Taking into account that Jung was one the most prominent psychologist and psychiatrist of the last century, we can assume that officially certified medicine was incapable of providing an explanation of mystical phenomena of mental reality outside the limits of senseless assertions with regard to pathology and disease.

We can also cite the so-called Miracle at Fatima as irrefutable evidence of a total inability of traditional science to explain a series of apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to three shepherd children at Fatima, a village in central Portugal, from May to October 1917. Pilgrims and onlookers would arrive to Fatima in large numbers to watch the appearance of Our Lady on days predicted by the three girls - Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco. Only the girls could see the apparitions while the rest watched the inexplicable celestial phenomena.

Finally, on October 13, 1917, a crowd of 70 thousand people witnessed a real miracle in the sky, the so-called the Miracle of the Sun. The shining disk was reportedly "dancing across the sky" for some period of time. The sun changed its color several times before eventually rolling down to the horizon. The fragrance and freshness then filled the air over the Fatima valley. Many people later reported significant changes for the better in their health, both physical and mental.

"The miracle in Fatima" is still a mystery. The attempts of traditional psychology and psychiatry to explain the apparitions as an act of collective psychosis look rather preposterous because so many people of various mental states could not have experienced the same olfactory and visual hallucinations.

New technologies will soon enable man to make such amazing things as Fortunatus’s cap or a magic cloak.

A Russian scientist from Ulyanovsk made a sensational discovery. Prof. Oleg Gadomsky at the department of quantum and optical electronics of the Ulyanovsk State University took a patent on a method to make things invisible. His patent certificate describes the invention as “the method of transformation of an optical radiation.�



Know-how is based on the behavior of light and the reflecting power of objects. Prior to making his discovery, the scientist from Ulyanovsk had experimented with nanoparticles of gold for many years.

“Now we can make invisible motionless objects only. The frequency of radiations change in moving objects, and therefore it’s impossible to keep them invisible,� says Gadomsky. An object covered with a superfine coat of microscopic colloid particles of gold becomes invisible to the naked eye. The method is applicable to stationary objects only. “But soon scientists will be able to make such things as Fortunatus’s cap or Harry Porter’s magic cloak�, Gadomsky was quoted as saying by Interfax.

Godomsky is not the first one to gain success in the field of man-made invisibility. In March 2005, two U.S. scientists said they had invented a theoretical way of making objects invisible.

Andrea Alu and Nader Ingueta at the University of Pennsylvania are designing a special coating to make objects invisible to the human eye. The researchers maintain that their theory is consistent with the fundamental laws of physics, and based on previous observations with regard to the behavior of light.

The researchers are using the so-called plasmons i.e. quasi-particles used in the past for explaining the ability of light of a certain wavelength to penetrate a metal plate with orifices.

The principle of the chameleon i.e. camouflage screen was used for designing all previous varieties of Fortunatus’s caps.

U.S. researchers’ technology is fundamentally different from the above concepts. It largely resembles the design of the Russian scientist. U.S. design is based on the concept of a sharp decrease in the scattering of light. Humans see objects by the light they reflect. Objects will become invisible should the process be disrupted by one way or another.

Alu and Ingueta suggest that a “plasmon� coating be used for above purposes. The coating should resonate with the frequency of the reflected light. The materials should have a very low or negative penetrability level. The calculations show that spherical and cylindrical objects coated with a specially designed material will not reflect any light. Once the light of a certain wavelength is directed to such objects, their visible dimensions will sharply diminish to the point of virtual disappearance, BBC reports.

The researchers believe that large objects e.g. aircraft or spaceships covered with a coat of plasmons will be able to disappear from the radar screen.

Noisy waterfalls and claps of thunder can drown out even the most vocal frog. But some persistent croakers in China have a clever fix: They switch to ultrasound.


The feat, researchers say, makes the frogs the first amphibians to be placed alongside an exclusive group of mammals, such as whales and dolphins, that have ultrasonic ability.

"It shows a new example of independent evolutionary adaptation in the frogs for life in habitats filled with loud background noise," said Albert Feng, a professor of neuroscience at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Researchers first heard of the unusual animals in 2000 from Kraig Adler, a biologist at Cornell University.

He tipped the scientists off to Huangshan Hot Springs, a popular tourist destination near Shanghai, where he had found frogs with recessed ears.

"I noticed the frogs' sunken ears and thought they must have an odd system of communication. We had no idea they used ultrasonic sounds," Adler said, reports National Geographic.

The frog lives in the fast-moving streams and waterfalls of east-central China and uses ultrasonic calls to make itself heard above the noise of running water.

The human ear cannot hear sounds with frequencies higher than 20 kilohertz but the frog has been recorded emitting sounds higher than 128kH which can carry above the noise of splashing water. "Nature has a way of evolving mechanisms to facilitate communication in very adverse situations," said Professor Albert Feng of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

"One of the ways is to shift the frequencies beyond the spectrum of background noise. Mammals such as bats, whales and dolphins do this, and use ultrasound for their sonar system and communication," he said.

The frog - Amolops tormotus - has an unusually recessed ear canal which protects a thin and delicate eardrum that can detect high-frequency sounds, Professor Feng said. "Thin eardrums are needed for detection of ultrasound. Recessed ears shorten the path between eardrums and the ear, enabling the transmission of ultrasound to the ears," he said, informs Independent.

Surprisingly enough, U.S. doctors quickly embraced Kellogg’s controversial concepts. Moreover, the babyhood circumcision became widespread in other English-speaking countries. Doctors in Europe were quite quick in giving up the operation. It is still performed in the U.S., though. American doctors no longer fight with masturbation. For more than a hundred years, doctors have been putting forth new scientific evidence to back the reports on the beneficial effects of circumcision. Circumcision is an ancient rite that originated in ancient Egypt. Children from the Jewish and Islamic families still undergo the operation, which is performed on a properly anesthetized patient. Nobody attempts to induce a feeling of guilt in a child.
