Ten Things to Remember Before Posting

1, This is a military forum. All non-military related topics belong to the Off-Topic forum.

2, Discussions should be concentrated on Chinese military issues. Issues regarding other countries can be discussed in the World Armed Forces Forum.

3, When posting a new topic, please check if the same discussion already exist.

4, Please also avoid one sentence post when starting a new topic

5, The following posts will be deleted or edited;

• Posts containing personal attack, swearing, foul language, political propaganda, and commercial advertisement better know as spam.
• Posts that are offensive to any ethnic, racial or religious groups or government. This isn't political forum.
• Posts that prompt hatred between different countries or groups of people.
• Meaningless arguments and inappropriate provocation of other members.
• Any other posts that the moderators/administrator regard as inappropriate.
  This includes post with comments with "sexual comments". Don't bother with the idiotic & immature "she's hot" etc comments. Remain respectful to all women. Military or otherwise.
• Any post containing solely article of some others, without comments of the poster, this includes links also. You are responsible of the content of your links so do not post trash
• Any post that violates universally authors moral right to his own text. So do not even think about plagiarizing. Always provide a source if quoting someone else
• Political issues of any sort will not be discussed.

6, This is a place for professional discussion. Please do NOT get personal. Do not try to tempt your fellow member to behave nastily. We see quite well trough your attempts. Also its not allowed to post deliberately false material or generally inappropriate comments. This isn't social chat-room so members with only that in mind would be banned.

7, Follow the instructions of the forum moderators. Warnings or banning will be issued for non-compliance. Whether you are corrected in the thread you are posting or by PM. Follow the instructions of the moderators.

8, If a member is clearly just causing trouble, let moderators deal with him/her. Ignore all provocative posting, because it would only worsen the situation. For those who repeatedly violate the rules here, he/she will be banned. The banning of a member is carried out by Dongfeng, Sumdud, Webmaster, Gollevainen & bd popeye. So please contact them directly regarding this. Members getting banned usually follows the path of warnings If member is to receive a warning, it will appear in the public warning list. After two warnings, member is to be banned for one week and permanently if he still manages to acquire a third warning. Also super moderators and administrators have ability to ban members for undisclosed periods according to individual cases.

9, Use only understandable English with out the use of slang that prevents someone with lesser language skills to understand.

Abbreviations such as those used when sending text messages are not permitted. Such as lil, ur, ppl hrd, etc..etc... You know what we mean. LOL and LAMO are permissible.

All rules of moderation apply to a foreign languages as well. Also as we are international community, DON'T make points about someone's lack of English skills. This is a rule that requires patience from all of us.

10, Don’t forget the gollevainen's quiz of the week in the off topic forum.

Amendments

A) If a moderator edits your post. So be it. Do not edit a moderators post!

If you do decide to edit a moderators edit of your post you will receive a warning!

B) Multiple accounts are not permitted. Do not open a new account if you have been banned! If you have been banned for any period of time. Stay gone. You may still log in and read the forum.

C) Do not make another(multiple) post without someone responding to your previous post. If no one has not responded to a post you have made and you want to make another post simply edit your last post to include your latest thought. That's what the edit button is for.

D) For clarification ... Multiple posting is allowed in news threads and picture threads.

E) All members are NOT permitted to start a thread in which you are soliciting other members for MONEY. No matter what the charity or organization. Or threads selling any sort of items.I.E. Cell phones, Tvs, computers etc. These sort of postings are considered SPAM and will not be permitted in this forum.

ANY member who violates this policy will be banned instantly.

F) Accounts established for the sole purpose of spamming, flaming, trolling and deliberately disrupting this forum will henceforth be banned immediately.

G) RED print is for the exclusive use of moderators. If you want to make a point use some other color or bold print.

H) Topics to compare Indian defense against Chinese defense are not allowed in this Forum!!!!

I) The discussion of Tiananmen Square & Tibet is forbidden.

J) Do not post graphic photos without the use of a hyper-link warning!

K) The posting of Pornography or nudity of any type is not allowed in this forum. Members posting such material will be banned instantly.

I must say I'm bit disappointed whit the start of this new forum. The administration have clearly stated that they wish to make this forum far more professional than the older one. Sadly this haven't been the case. The problem is that almost all of our new topics are these "which is the best stoneclup in the neolitich era?"- type of silly threads. These things started from the military historic forum and have now spread whole over the forum. It must stop and it will!! If any of these kind of childish threads appears again, i will close them...

I'm not saying that you are no longer allowed to start topics, quite the opposite we need good topics and we have way too few of them. But although we have this professional forum it doesn't mean that the rest of the forum is some freaking chat room.

And making threads like "top 5 engineering troops of the world" also aren't very constructive if none of the members contributing to the thread are not even been in army, let alone in the engineering corps.
Also now on if you want to make a comparison thread in which two or several military equipment is compared against each others, give the adequate information on which the comparison should be done. There's no point of one or two liner threads from the beginning.

Hope you all notice this so that we all can feel proud of our own little forum...

Now we posted forum rules to every forum so that none could say that they haven't read them. But I've noticed that the rules wont help you in all matters. Rules gives you good overall idea of what to post and what not, but I think little clarification is in place.

So pay attention to these following issues:

This is a miltary forum for serious and hopefully for professional discussion. So before you make a new thread think bit harder is the thread going to fulfill the standards of this forum. So avoid making these following type of threads:

1. Simple questions like "how many Type 98/99 is in PLA service?". We have dedicated military FAQ thread in the world armed forces forum, where all these questions should be made, even the most noob and silly ones.

2. Don't make threads which opens for only one line or sentence. Try to give proper base and start for your thread.

3. Don't make silly and childish "which is the best sword of 900-1400 era?" kind of listing threads. Those wont serve us anyways and just gives imature image of our forum.

4. Don't make unnecessary comparison threads like "J-10 vs. F-16". Or who will win the war between China and the US? Posting such as these lead to nothing but flame wars.

5. Search the forum first before making a new thread. We have been online for quite while so the most obvious subjects like J-10, FC-1, Type 98, new DDGs, Varyag and so on have already covered in existing threads. If you have something new to say, do it in the existing threads. There's an exception if the existing threads are older than two months. Then you can start a new thread on the subject.

6. Don't open new image threads. There are existing threads about PLA, PLAAF, PLAN, and world armed forces in associated forums. You can however post pictures to support your thread if it requires to do so.

Also try to avoid all provocative subjects and read the announcement, all temporary banned subjects are listed in there. Also instructions about image postings are found from there.

Remember these guidelines and enjoy posting in here. If you have problems or something is still unclear to you, contact me or other mods and administrative persons.

Due recent unclearness A another thing needs to clarifying...

Do not use slang or any other intentional misspelling of normal English grammar.
(This from directly DF rules: )[Its hrd 2 reed whn peple tipe poorly, its also trashy! This will make posts much nicer, neat and easy to read for fellow participants. This isn't done on most forums, its time you get use to it here.

We have members from all parts of the world and some of us (like the author) will make unintentional misspelling and some of us have even difficoulties to understand clearly written English so lets not make it harder by those who speaks English as native language intentionally writing it wrong.

Also it would avoid giving this forum an image of play ground for kids BS that unfortuanetly plagues many other forums in internet.

Also, I like to refresh your memory a bit. A while ago, when this forum was in the edge of turning into turmoil and chaos (something we had have too large doze in the Ezboard days), We banned temporally some certain trouple topics that have proven to be too troublesome.

Things have changed, and the announcement of this buried in the mist of the archives, and lot of new members have came since. So I like to repeat once again and really clearly:

Now, to a newcomer this might seem that we are pro-india forum or trying to block opinions bashing Indian military complex, But I can assure this isn't the case. We have no political agenda, nor any sides in any matters.

We do keep continue our crusade against BS, childish ranting, country bashing and flame figths that hampers other military forums in the internet.

Banning of this topic is simply due the fact that I have seen ten or so of those in my career as a moderator in SDF, and I have needed to close every single one of them, and all the mentioned diseases are practically infested in this topic. So in order to keep the forum clean and professional, We simply have decided not to allow it. In the end, We are CHINESE military forum of CHINESE military issues, we don't need India as a measure of our own affection, intrest and pride towards Chinese military that have taken us to come together as a community.

Indian military topics are allowed in the world armed forces forum, but the rule against penis contest apply there too.

Again I address, This has nothing to do with bias or me being pro-Indian, I'm just fed up with the childish BS that has married itself with the topic.

The majority of this forums members happily abide by the forum rules.

However, it has come to our attention recently that some of the members of this forums have posted personal insults, country bashing remarks, racist remarks, immflamatory remarks(Flamming & trolling) & their own personal political adgenda.

This type of behavior while posting will not be tolerated in this forum. We want to maintain a level of dignity and respect in our forum so as not to insult or offend anyone reading sino defense forum.

This is a Chinese military forum. Our primary discusions are Chinese military matters. We have sub-sections for the Worlds other militaries. We offer a members Club room so just about any other topic may be discussed. Feel free to post in a respectful manner.

Also as a somewhat veteran of those "you moderated me becouse you dont like me" debates I can assure that SDFs moderation team never conducted such bias and we have really working method of making sure that moderation isn't used as personal vendetta against some members. When ever some moderator finds out that he doesn't like someone, he makes sure that to other mods and passes the possiple need of moderation of that member to another mod.

Our Moderation team is wide and I think it reflects all possiple political opinions ranging from honest and patriotic Americans through European left-wingers to patriotic Chinese memebers. If you have problems with moderation and complaint about moderation, PM directly it directly to Webmaster or the moderator in question or another moderator.

But as a general rule, If you feel the moderation against you has been personal insult, the problem might be in your ego, not in our methods.

Judging by some of the newer members post you all need to Read the Forum Rules!!

So , Once again, all members are requested to read the forum rules. They have been amended several times in the four year history of this forum. Read this entire thread! Starting with the very first post!

The rules of this forum also apply to Private Messages sent within this forum. DO NOT HARASS OTHER MEMBERS WITH PM'S!! This has happened twice in the last week. Knock it off! If you reciece a harassing PM do not respond. Send it to me and I shall take care of it!.
