There are a billion other reports I heard since several years ago talking about how J-XX is going to enter service by 2012, 2015, 2020 etc... This "news" doesn't seems to be any different from others. All I know for sure is that no one have seen an actual prototype of J-XX, and we don't even know for sure the very existence of J-XX program. All those reports about the J-XX start look like those tabloid news magazines to me.

the JXX program does exist as the chinese government has already went public with it. but the chinese kept their top secret program very tight, they do a better job than U.S. in this field. im sure the prototype already exist and might be tested just like the F-117 back in the 80s which was tested only at night when no 1 can see.

China is very very tight in keeping their projects top secret. They don't mouth of much details about their projects. Yuan sub was suprise from being non-existant to sailing and being equipped to PLAN after some sea trials. Z-10 attack heli, nearly being equipped just couple more tests. J-11, J-10, Type 99, etc...

There's probably enough tidbits out there to say China is working on their own stealth fighter program. One major one is the fact China is not a part of Russia's program. There's a lot of contradictory stories out there but all of it comes from outside China. Russian officials said they offered China a partnership... Indians say they don't want China being a part, etc. China pretty much hasn't said a word about it meaning China probably has the confidence that they can produce one on their own. Meaning one is on its way since it's going to be important to have one in the future.

I doubt China aerospace industries ability to produce a F-22 type aircraft.consider this ,Russia or even pan-european aerospace indsutries with there far more superior high technology industrial base unable to produce fighter aircraft that can match F-35 and F-22.
China may still need foregn input, particular from russia, But the Russia are not likely (or will not) to transfer high tech to China .

Even if China sought for Russian assitance, their is high doubt that even the Russians can develop such a platform to challenge the F-22/35. Mostly from what Russians have achieved so far are derivatives and upgrades to previous Soviet fighters. Mig-29 and Su-27.

Remember China isn't following US military footsteps, so their requirments for counter defence is different. China has always been patient, analysing before jumping into scenarios.

It wouldn't be suprising if the stealth fighter or whatever China has installed one day was in service before pictures were leaked or even acknowledged.

i wont be so sure challenge, your right, the JXX or J-13,14 may not be able to match the performace of the f-22 but it deosnt mean it cant find one that can take on the f-22 even if its a low specs.

1) france and some other EU nation's been transfering technology to china, and providing technical assisstance to the PLAN. look at the new ships with are runing on french made hardwares.

http://archive.newsmax.com/archives/...30/90743.shtml

why not aircraft technologies as well??

2)'China may still need foregn input, particular from russia, But the Russia are not likely (or will not) to transfer high tech to China' the russian aviation research and development, are supported by chinese funds from plane bought by the PLAAF. if the PLAFF threated to stop the funding the reaseach in russia, this would seriously damaged the Russian Aviation. threating to pull the plung on russia aviation would mean more assisstance from russia.

http://www.asianresearch.org/articles/2355.html

3) recent investing in china by western countries, setup companys that is actively transfering technology that has potential miltary purpose, of the dual-use technology. like CAD computer aided design from germany this is used to design new j-10 and more.

i say its possible for china to produce a fighter that is stealth and has high spec and can be a true fifth gen fighter but it may not be as good as the f-22.

not yet anyway.......
