China sure likes to add bumps all over its planes/helicopters to accommodate sensors.

don't know about anything else, but the colour of the number indicates PLAN special missions aircraft. And also, it looks to be a 4 digit number. Other than that, we've seen a photos of PLAN KJ-200 a while ago. I just don't think it was ever fully revealed. I'm sure the regiment is operational by now. If you check scramble's website, you can see it in the 1st independent regiment.

    Thanks again, Deino

Do the tail booms telescope to save space on the carrier? They look too thin to be stiff enough even without that feature.
I think it would make more sense to build a delta winged tailless aircraft to carry the radar antennae and the operators instead of a conventional aircraft with a dish on top. Needs less height below deck, has a low structural weight, plenty of space for crew equipment and fuel and a greater building height for the antennae.

    Re: PLAAF AWACS thread

You mean sort of like a B-2 shaped plane with dish?

I mean B-2 shaped or delta shaped, with a relatively thick profiles and with the antenna elements in the leading edge, in front of the trailing edge and probably also in side looking antennae on the top and under side. Where will we put the engines? How large will the fuselage have to be? Perhaps no fuselage at all? Certainly no dish.
Such an aircraft will save on drag and weight and so can use a smaller wing span. This is welcome in the limited space of an aircraft carrier deck.

Even IF it can, it would be with severly curtailed performance due to lack of fuel. I doubt it would be worth it.

Besides, it has been announced that varyag is a training carrier. Maybe they dont mind reduced performance
It probably can take off from the angle deck if Varyag has the Kuznetsov speed. By the way, I checked and a Brazilian Navy six men team returned from China. They gave aircraft carrier management classes to PLAN personel.

    very detailed picture, Thanks Deino

i hope to see these in PAF service soon flying with JF-17s and J-10s

I wounder if PN will consider ZDK-03 AEW&C for its own requirement for 3-4 AEW&C
