New JF-17/FC-1 Fighter Aircraft thread

Russia has blocked the sale of Chinese fighter planes with Russian engines to Pakistan.

"We've denied China the right to supply its JF-17 fighter aircraft powered by Russian RD-93 engines to third countries, asking it to sign an end-user certificate for the engines," said Colonel-General Anatoly Mazurkevich, head of the Defence Ministry's International Cooperation Department.

President Pervez Musharraf said last year that the JF-17s would be flying in Pakistani skies by March 2007. Islamabad plans to acquire 150 JF-17s, known in China as FC-1. China has bought 100 Klimov RD-93 engines from Russia for installing on JF-17s, with an option to contract another 400 engines.

This has been suspected for a while, but I think this is the first time there's been an announcement.

was it so hard to just put that article on this thread? What I've wanted to say about this situation can be found earlier in this thread. Don't need to repeat again.

As the previous jf-17 thread should have been closed, but still however people managed to post there, I decided to remove that thread completely and splitting those post made post-closing to new thread.

Re: New JF-17/FC-1 thread

Re: New JF-17/FC-1 thread

Why do we almost always see PLAAF aircraft with weapons loaded on them? Probally PS. Look at that brand new JF-17. Why on Earth would a brand new aircraft be armed? Does not add up to me. Probally some fanboy PSed that on an other wise nice photo.

Re: New JF-17/FC-1 thread

Sorry but they do have missiles on them. But these are not real missiles, these are mockups with the actual weight and aerodynamics of the real missiles.

Why do they have them installed? That's because the flight properties of the aircraft, and the J-10 as well, are optimized with two AAMs onboard. In other words they fly better with those two AAMs---even if they're dead weight---than without them.

That's an old F-16 design trick.

Heck even the planes without radar and only flight telemetry equipment carry the mock up missiles too.

A lot of CAC propoganda here. Involving it's 3 major projects: J-10, JF-17 and the head of ARJ-21.

apparently, the CEO of CAC claims that JF-17 has received over 200 export orders and that domestic orders will exceed 100. yep, that's what it says.

I'm wondering where the additional 50 export order go? Zimbawe? With WS-13 almost ready,FC-1 prosper looks good.

Well! we know for sure that 150 of the 200 were ordered by Pakistan. Where the other 50 going, only time will tell.

Domestic orders will exceed 100? Does that mean the PLAAF will recieve the JF-17? It makes you wonder how it compares with the newest J-7G fighter. It can't be that significantly better than the J-7G, which is already comparable to the F-16.

F-16A using a turbofan, has greater range, payload and capabilities (AtA,AtG)
than J-7G. Its bigger nose cone definitely house a better radar(APG-66?) than J-7G. I will say FC-1 is better than F-16A but inferior to F-16C/D Block 30.

Re: New JF-17/FC-1 thread

Though J-10 is a far superior aircraft, but it cannot replace every J6,7,and 8s in Chinese inventory.

PLAAF will definitely require another aircraft to eventually replace them and FC-1 is a good replacement for its lower cost, and superior technologies, and capabilities.

As what Crobato mention, this is the usual routine for PLAAF testing out new plane......
Let me rephrase that again. It's not for testing. Its because the plane's aerodynamics and flight control systems are optimized against a configuration with the plane having two missiles, instead of none.

It sounds unusual but this is how the F-16 was designed. These planes fly better with the two AAMs than without them.
